Stoner retiring at end of 2012 season

The fact that he just had a kid and that GP has been averaging 1 fatality a year lately is no coincidence..

V8 Supercars look fun, the CRT formula they use to keep the cars on equal footing and the racing close is quite clever. :laughing

And I get what drives stoner, and I understand his point of view. I even respect it. .

well except the whole retirement thing

wahhhh i dont like the rules im going home
waahhhhh I dont like the press I quit
wahhh, I act like I dont care what people think but I get mad when they dont like me wahhhh

:laughing stoner just a prick. some people like that, some dont. every damned thing he does is tinted with his essential prickness.

a strange way of showing respect and understanding

i have always wanted to like casey too. and kinda do. but 'off putting' is a great way to describe him. he's a strange dude - seems too fragile to be a motogp racer. both mentally and physically.

As I watch Donington Park and the aggressive beast WSBK has become I see the truth in what you say; Stoner seems more the lover than fighter, and if racing as a whole is becoming contact friendly he's doomed anyway. He'll make a fine father to that little girl of his, and for me this is his saving grace.

and if racing as a whole is becoming contact friendly he's doomed anyway.

Hard, tight racing is pretty uncommon in MotoGP these days. Aside from his battle with Rossi I can't think of another famous incident in the past few years that would turn Casey off to the sport.

The fastest guy on two wheels has a low tolerance for BS and people are hatin on him for that :rolleyes
Let the guy live his life however he sees fit.

More than 10 years risking your life and limbs every time you show up for work....Kenny Roberts was not kidding when he said a decade of racing is enough.

the reality is, just like rossi, stoner only cares about himself. he just shows it a different way.

Stoner has been shit on by the press constantly, Rossi gets his dick sucked when he crashes or finishes 12th. Been the same way their whole careers, no? One is the golden child, the other, the ugly duckling. It's no wonder he's fucking tired of it, it's not fun to be hated on constantly.

Like I have repeated, I'm not arguing the opinions, you are welcome to not like the guy, I am arguing the facts.

It's nice to have someone else who holds facts as the most important thing in forming an opinion. :thumbup I don't have the energy to argue with all these people who don't.

yes, i can understand that. but i'm not basing it on what others have said. casey himself has shown it at crucial points. dude began as a master crasher, and has had some serious wobbles since he got his feet under him. most prominently, letting rossi worm his way into his head at laguna, and the mystery ailments in 2009. and the various 'here we go agains' since then.

This strikes me as an unfair comparison, considering the differences in careers between Stoner and Rossi. Both earlier in their careers crashed quite a bit IIRC, but look at the career support each have received-- until recently, Rossi has had a charmed life with top tier support, while Stoner has been the red-headed stepchild making do with whatever leftovers are around.

have pulled for him at all of them, but he still seems a bit delicate under the verneer of racing excellence.
Anyone who's won a premier world championship isn't delicate. I suspect you're conflating political ignorance (and/or apathy) and a lack of polished media charm with the ability to win races and championships.

i just watched the press conference.

what i got from it is that he is retiring because no one believes that he is lactose intolerant. everything else he says is just rhetoric. the only time he got fiery and emotional was when he was talking about the mystery illness.

i dont care what anyone else says because im right.:twofinger

That's REALLY what you got most out of it?

Not surprised... Casey talks and all the Stoner haters hear is what they wanna hear.

you didnt find it off putting when he was talking down to all the other riders?

"all riders in motogp say they will stop when there is no more passion, but no one really would do that. there are other things that keep them there like the fame and the money."

oh casey you are so awesome. you are so much better than everyone else because you are giving up. /sarcasm

dude is a straight up douche bag. half of what he says is bullshit, sprinkled with little grains of truth. just like its bullshit when all the other riders say "it is a shame for motogp to lose a rider like casey". they are just saying that shit to be nice. what they really mean is "thank god this fucking whinny baby isnt going to be in the sport anymore because we are sick of such a pussy winning every race. now let the people with REAL passion for the sport race"

and again, im right and youre wrong and thats the way it is. :twofinger

don't fucking antagonize me. i tried to be cool about it. i never said i didn't like the guy. i actually do. i just see him differently than you do.

Antagonize you? I'm not sure I understand. You mean patronize? In either case, that isn't my goal. As I've said, the conventional wisdom regarding Stoner is quite simply false but has been spouted by the idiot commentators for so long that it is taken as gospel.

WTF are you talking about? Stoner is the most straight up, honest rider out there. Rossi, never says anything that is totally honest, Hayden, says everything in such a diplomatic manner that there have only been 2 or 3 instances where you got the sense that he was really stating how he felt. Lorenzo and Pedrosa never say anything of interest at all and no one cares about anyone else's opinion.

Sad to see any athlete lose there drive/ love for a sport they grew up playing. I remember when I Stopped loving baseball and continued to play, those were the worse years of my life.

stoner is a great rider that we will all look back on a wonder what would have happened if he had continued.
