How does Lightning make money? Anyone know?

I don't think they do. I think they were sucking in investors to operate for a while but without a product.....

Very happy to have purchased a 2017 Zero DSR! Excited to pick it up. Even more excited that I can combine the existing Charge Tank with my J1772 female adapter to charge the bike at 7.8kW at EVSE charge stations. All the ChargePoint stations i've used have two ports at each station so as long as both are free I'm good to go. One for the ChargeTank the other for the plug adapter.

Pro tip, if you want to use two plugs on a charge point at the same time (Dub-J), you want to have 2 separate charge points accounts / 2 RFID cards.

Welcome to the Zero family.

Thank you for that tip. I have one CP account on my cell phone I guess for the other I will just use one of my RFID cards. My battery is the older 13.0kW model so I'm anxious to see how fast 7.8kW charges the thing. Zero has been really responsive to my questions. One of their actual engineers has been chatting with me.

At least you got the R model. I wouldn't get anything less unless it was an FX I guess, I still like the FX/S. The DS and S were slower than the Empulse but the R models were faster than the Empulse. If you think 7.8kwh is impressive wait till you DC fastcharge an Energica, you can literally watch it charge. Like with Level 2 I'm like I can whip out the phone and check my email, facebook, instagram, etc... The DC fastcharge it's like check my email, what it's nearly done already!?

Around two hours. It's simple math. 13KWH / 7.8KW=1.66 hours.

But . . .

Now add around 22 % to that time. You cannot charge a Zero 13 KWH battery to a full 13 KW. But there is the loss in heat. Also, you will not get 7.8 KW charging under 10% or above 90% SOC. You then have around two hours from near 0 SOC to 100% full after everything is taken into consideration.

FWIW, I charge my 2017 Zero SR at around 7.9KW on the road. Two 3.3 KW external Elcons and the 1.4 KW OBC.

They do a lot of consulting and building controllers and such for other markets. Or so I've been told.

The Swappable Battery Consortium for Electric Motorcycles is focused only on the Japanese market

Well F us then we never get the cool stuff from Japan.

WHOA WHOA look what I found!

Zero DSP, I was wondering what the P stood for. It's a Stockton PD bike. I saw one of these riding around Los Altos Hills the other week. Haha it even has the siren/megaphone! It can't be legal to have all that stuff on there hah. I looked up the specs of the DSR and DSP and it has the same powertrain as the DSR. Man 888 miles it's clean, has the side racks, and rear rack. It's too bad it doesn't have the chargetank.

It's probably very similar to the bike I saw in this video this day

Wow that is a smoking deal and will probably mean I'll have to keep my SR rather than sell it for such a loss.

Shouldn't this be listed on a government auction instead of craigslist??? (Sorry, can't read the ad at work)

I think the bike was bought at a police auction. It's like one of those crown vics you see rollin around with the spot light and the police graphics scrubbed off.

I think it is base off of a DS afterall also because it has the DS badge on it.

The Aussies have it now! Brunopoweeer takes a look at it. All I can say is what about the US? Such a disappointment everyone has this bike but us :( 90V about as much voltage as the Empulse and their saying the controller can handle more.

Maybe they are ramping up for the US distribution. USA is a big ol place, probably quite challenging for the company i would imagine. I'm sure it will happen.

I'm just a little sad they don't have a supermoto version. I'd be interested in getting a leg over one.

All I can say is I'm glad they went with a gearbox I am having so many problems with the Light Bee primary drive its got so many moving parts to wear out.
