The Home Grower's Thread

Highway - do you measure your pH? Just thinking back I'm pretty sure your issue was related to pH swings late in bloom.

Growing without a handle on pH is like sailing without a compass. You'll get out of port, and might get to your destination; eventually however you'll get into a rough patch and will be lost without it.

Okay, took a pic. Better than I thought. They were moved to solo cups last Thursday and I used Happy Frog potting soil. I guess just keep watering them for now? Next goal is to get them into 0.62g pots when the roots are well established, maybe a week from now.

Quick story on the root aphids? A buddy thought he had aphid issues from FF too.

Yo! :thumbup

Long story short, there are only so many distributors of peat moss - the biggest of which is in Canada. The green rush exploded and soil companies ramped up and popped up overnight to keep up with demand. Regardless of what brand of soil you prescribed to, the peat probably originated at the same spot. Aphids got into the peat moss, which got into the supply chain and wreaked havoc on the grow scene for a couple of years as growers scrambled to pinpoint the origins of the epidemic.

They are the phylloxera of cannabis.

Not to mention the fact that a lot of growers were/are notoriously bad in regards to quarantine practices and were/are absolutely slutty in terms of what plants they brought into their gardens based on rarity or exclusivity which helped to fuel their spread.

Back in my days of commercial growing I always considered aphids and fungus gnats the more annoying pest vs spider mites. I use Neem meal in my soil mix (for aphids and gnats) and also use Neem oil to foliar spray during veg. (for mites). Never tried soil soak but I read that it is also successful. With all the time I put into cooking and prepping my soil I always feel sketchy about soaking it with something other than my compost tea or just plain water.

IPM (integrated pest management) is the way to go and I have great success with it so far (knock on wood). :cool

Wow, that really sucks. I've sprayed twice with Azamax and intend to give the last treatment tomorrow. Probably doesn't do anything for root aphids though.

Neem meal is now on the list for when these transplant!

Any opinions on Dr. Zymes? I used it a couple years ago when pm was a problem in October, but I'd swear the moisture made things worse. Seems like it's only worth using when it's warm enough to evaporate quickly. Might spray these with it since it's warm, but it's probably unnecessary.

Anyone grow in soil indoors?

Never had to deal with PM. Air is almost evacuated immediately in my environment so PM is not an issue.

I grow soil indoors once it gets cooler. During warmer season I am soil outdoors. For next Summer I plan on building an outdoor bed and trying out no till. Should be fun!! :)

Fortunately the root aphid epidemic seems to have passed for the most part, but I'm sure you can still find them if you try. Azamax (neem) is great stuff but only in veg as oils are bad once you've started to flower. Neem meal is great stuff though to mix in your soil.

Soil indoors is where it's at.

Sometimes it feels like that afterwards.....I did all this work when this kind of stuff comes bagged?!

"Sittin there fartin' in a bathtub...not buffering your pH enough with lime....laughing your ass off that you built your own soil."

:laughing Worth it though.

Jeremy is DA MAN!! I follow Jeremy and clackamas coot!! My gurus!! I try to purchase most of my soil components locally but do support his business and have recently ordered some biochar and bokashi from him. :cool

They'll be 4 weeks on Thursday and they're smelling great and getting a little frosty..

Came back from vacation with one of the last 3 effectively dead on the vine...I told my roommate to water it too late. The other two have yellow leaves but are still fine.

No that was next.

I may use it for just edibles or oil etc

My bags of weed have been drying nicely in the paper bags, I rotated them around. One bag one of the buds was still VERY wet and I noticed mold so I tossed it.

Hmm, hadn't really thought about it, but I guess flushing isn't necessary if you're making bubble hash..?

It might still be alive but all the fans leaves are toast. It feels sticky to the touch. I watered it anyway for the final week for the others will check it.

I stuck a gorilla seed in a root riot cube on the 5th and it's so adorbz..

I have 10 gorilla/mongrel seeds about 8" tall in 4" pots. Still need to sex them but I'm gonna try to mainline them since they was free.

Nice! I've heard 'regular' seeds make the best seeds and feminized can hurt the genetics. Do you know anything about that? Mine is feminized, but it gets good reviews, though people get free points at Seedsman for reviews, so who knows.

I'm hoping to get this one seed big enough to take some clones, then grow those big enough to for a couple 3x3 indoor tables, maybe sometime around mid/late september. Pretty excited to finally flip the switch on the dope shed.

No info about fem seeds being weak. Sounds a bit fishy to me. Only the cost difference would prevent me from trying fem seeds. I have a few black jack clones too that i wish came from seed. We will see how they do outdoors but I'm keeping expectations low.
