The Home Grower's Thread

The only issue with fem seeds are the higher possibility of hermies popping up if the breeder(s) did not do their due diligence. There were quite a few high profile breeders that released unstable fem lines that was 'reportedly' hermie prone (Swerve @ Cali Connect is an example). Most of these reports are due to the grow environment, grower, etc. in my opinion and not necessarily the fem seeds but Cali Connection in a particular time frame did receive a LOT of negative feedback on his fem lines.

In general for me, fem seeds are fine... just remember they have that hermie trait in them that can pop up down the line. But if your girls are happy this shouldn't be an issue.

EDIT: I forgot to add if I was to choose between reg and fem I would choose reg only for stability sake (I am currently male hunting :cool ). The only times I chose fem seeds is because at the time reg seeds were not available of that particular genetics.

Good to know about the hermies. I did have a candyland hermie in a tent once. Lighting was on a timer of course, but I was having trouble sorting out some deficiencies in coco. I've heard some strains will hermie more easily than others, but I don't *think* gorilla is one..? Anyway, I'm going to grow them in soil and I think I have that down well enough, but I'll keep an eye out for sacs.

I love how the science of growing weed has evolved so much..It's a glorious time for growing weed as opposed to my youth.

I'll just admit it now, my drying technique was poor and some ended up with mold. Instead of tossing it I froze them and then baked at 220 for two hours to decarb and now cooking in the Magical Butter for 4 hours with a bottle of Everclear 120 proof. After that I'll filter the flowers and put it in the electric still to recover as much alcohol as possible and then finish in a pot on an induction burner.

If the mold survives that I'm a monkey's uncle.

Mold itself won’t survive but mycotoxins might, and they are the actual reason why mold is hazardous. usually they are heat stable, and you’ll probably extract them into the butter since they are almost always fat soluble products of polyketide synthesis.

Just one of many reasons why I don’t think unregulated marijuana products are anywhere near ideal for patients in need.

booo

So what do you guys think of rosin presses?

Spend the fucking dough to get a legit one or don’t waste your money. I bought a 500 dollar piece of shit. Rosintech was the brand. Sorry some of your harvest went to waste but mold is what cost me 75% on my last harvest

Are the mycotoxins alcohol stable and soluble? Can they get into the actual THC?

Because this gets reduced from like 750ml to like 10ml

Integrated units are a bummer when something goes wrong because the entire thing can turn to garbage. I'd get the HF press, HF air over hydraulic bottle jack and maybe the Tuopuke hot plates on Amazon. You'd be all in for $500 or less and would have a robust setup with individually replaceable parts. If you want to measure pressure, just drill the bottle jack and add a gauge and math out a little conversion chart. Would be nice to find a $100 load cell with digital read out, but I don't think they exist.

They have a $700 model this is the mini at $500

Look into the dry sift process. Using static and specific-sized micron screens you can isolate the resin heads and not use any solvent or messing around with rosin presses. I've seen some amazing stuff.

What Is Dry Sift Hash?

The Solventless Hash Rating System: How to Determine Quality

Full Melt Dry Sift (5-6 stars)

Contains just trichome heads and is considered to be ultimate connoisseur grade hash; it should be dabbed off of a quartz nail. The starting beach sand consistency can be pressed into a dab-ready sheet for ease of portion control and handling. Although this level of hash can be enjoyed in any fashion (i.e. vaporized, smoked, twaxed, made into edibles, etc.), it is typically dabbed because it's the best way to maximize flavor and effect. Full melt dry sift is one of the most expensive concentrates assuming you can find it.

If it ain't beach sand don't bring it around me!!!!
