The Official 2012 NFL Thread

So far the only people making noise about this are Giants fans, and their team won!

Do you seriously think the guys that play with Brady are gonna lose respect for him overnight? Doubtful. Would this even be news, or would the scene have even been recorded if she wasn't a celebrity in her own right? Also doubtful.

Again, don't get caught up in the media frenzy, I know the professionals that are on Brady's team probably won't... Except maybe Welker, but he's gonna feel shitty for a while.

No man, I already said Brady may still have enough cred to get away with it. Doesn't change the fact that it was a big no-no. :dunno

I've always been the guy who was hypercritical of anybody who talked shit outside of the organization though. Never, ever let em see you bleed, you only ever bleed on the inside.

...and I bet if some Bostonian did the same to Eli's wife had the Giants lost you'd be screaming bloody murder.

She's Brazilian, she's passionate, she got ambushed by an obnoxious NY fan and she stood by her man, that's ok in any man's book.

Seriously, enjoy your teams win, there's no need for "outrage", it's much ado about nothing.

No dude, you stand by your man by saying back that Eli doesn't have shit, not by shitting on your man's buddies. Whatever though, if you don't understand the, "NEVER THROW YOUR PEOPLE TO THE MEDIA," mentality, I don't have to keep trying to explain it to you. I hate the media and react strongly to that. I said the same shit when Hue Jackson dumped on his guys, etc., etc. etc...

You are right, if it was Abby Manning, I'd be pretty damn pissed. There is a REASON Tiki Barber is NOT welcome in New York anymore. :laughing

They won't lose respect for him. They will think his wife is a dumb bitch though. Now if your coworkers all hate your wife, and she's around at games, practices, whatever, you don't think there's potential for grief there? A snide comment here, dirty look there, she starts bitching at home about it, come on. It's at the very least a possibility.

Yes, if she's pulling the sh** that Vanessa Bryant was pulling with the Lakers, but that comment Mrs. Brady made, hardly the stuff of sustainable feud fodder...

So according to 95.7 radio, Alex Smith wants a Ryan Fitzpatrick type deal with SF. 6 years, 59M, 24M guaranteed.

I'm not entirely sure I see that happening.

$24M guaranteed if its all in the first 3 years that's $8M per, the 35M on the last three completely voidable? maybe, id' rather see 2 guaranteed, the rest voidable.

dudes need to stop basing their contract demands on stupid decisions by other franchises.

almost $10M per? wow. I guess it's a good move, in the sense that it will put to the test the 49ers willingness to commit to him.

it's not really out of the water though...2nd tier QBs are getting around 8 - 11M per. Eli got 6 years, 97.5M in 09. carson palmer's making 12.5M in 2012. Tavaris jackson's at 4M per. Also in 2009, Matt Cassel (probably the closest comparo to Alex IMO) signed 6 years, 62.7M with 28M guaranteed and 40.5M total for the first 3 years. So Alex isn't even asking for Matt Cassel money.

He's not going to give SF a hometown discount, and why should he? the only reason I can think of is that the potential suitors list would be thin...but a team like ARZ or SEA would be in the mix to grab him up though.

tough call.

think everyone but the most rabid alex supporters would agree that he's a 2nd tier qb (and plenty of niner fans still don't think he's even the short term answer). so, a 2 yr commitment, sure, but 3 years? and $8M per sounds about right. heck, they might pay goldson almost 6 and a half for a 1 yr franchise tag.

kaepernick is either ready to take over after his 3rd season (2 yrs from now) or they need to find another qb of the future. if they guarantee 3 yrs for alex and kaepernick beats him out, then you're paying some guy $8M to hold a clipboard for a season.

kaepernick is talking about starting next season. really doubt that'll happen but who's to say the guy won't be ready the year after? if that happens and you guaranteed 3 yrs at 8M per that's 16M over 2 years to stand around on the sidelines.

SF won't be able to make both QBs happy for sure.

It's great that Kaepernick wants to start; he wouldn't be worth a crap if he didn't. To be fair though, it was Alex that voluntarily led the team through offseason drills. Alex who led the team on offense to the championship game...basically I'm saying SF should focus on making Alex happy and not worry so much about what Colin wants. This isn't the time to re-start with a new, young QB who hasn't proven anything. Go with the guy who put in the time, who has a solid respectable image in the locker room, who has stuck with SF through thick and thin and against his and his family's better judgements. I think teams should reward players for those things. And if Colin wants out because of a fair commitment to Alex, then maybe SF could get a little something in return via a trade.

Alex deserves some good faith from SF. The kid really did something special last year.

Well, maybe you get into a position where Kapernick is going to start after 2 years, I would say having your solid veteran as a back-up for a year might not be a bad thing and after all those mill and all those years of getting beat up by the media, Smith might be happy to just hold a clipboard for a year and retire, so while a little costly, it might be a good strategy for building a future with depth at what has long been an extremely troubled position for the Niners.

Because he is a convict so he belongs in Philly with the rest of the convicts and traitors? :laughing

i think alex can win a super bowl with this team. he almost got to it last season. but if you read any 49er blogs and websites (and i know that has to be real high on your list of things to do, dan :laughing) i'd say half of the niner fan base want to replace him.

that being said, kaepernick seems to have more potential to be special. but he still needs a lot of work.

Shit, Jeff Hostetler got a ring from the Giants. You just keep that Defense together. :laughing

shah, you know I'm all over them blogs yo! lol

anyways, back to Oaktown: Stanford Routt was released today. he of the 3rd highest cb contract (at the time), boasting 4 ints and 17 penalties-against for the '11 season.

quoting McKenzie: "From where we are, we've got some contracts that are kind of out of whack, but in discussions and viewing the cap situation, we should be fine," McKenzie said. "We don't have to make wholesale changes.''

out of whack salaries on the 29th ranked defense? say it ain't so! I wonder what will happen with Seymours $15M contract for next year.

well, I do really like Seymour...but do I really like Seymour for $15M? who led them to the...29th ranked defense?

I want Seymour to be more successful. but it's simply not enough, and I think McKenzie recognizes it.

what it really boils down to is that our players who have a lot of talent need to step up and actually do something. they're spinning their wheels and it's not getting them far enough. maybe the new regime can help. but who knows at this point? maybe more of a mystery right now than when Al was there.
