The Official 2012 NFL Thread

this is a good example of why most draft speculation is completely useless at this point. a couple of mocks have come out with the niners drafting rueben randle, wr, LSU. 2 weeks ago you probably couldn't find mention of him anywhere (last week some guy had him rated behind marvin jones from cal whom most people seem to think will be a mid round pick), now mayock has him rated as the 3rd best receiver prospect and late 1st rder and kuiper has the niners drafting him at 30.

with the combine and pro days coming up players' stocks are going to vary wildly. some guys we think will get drafted high are going to drop, guys most of us have never heard of are going to become can't miss. throw in the fact that free agency hasn't even started and we don't even know what holes teams are going to try to fill in the draft.

anyway, proceed. :p

hey, it was one guy's valentines wish on the radio that I thought interesting. apparently I am understanding that you disagree. You can creep back from the ledge now, yo.

And actually I'd rather enjoy it if the 9ers start tanking again. 2010 Titans style :party

LOL, no way, way too much talent on that team in a shitty Division. Caroll needs 2 more years to get the Seachikens in shape and the other two are just going to flail. I think at this point it should stand that only a herculean effort to fail from Singletary stopped them the year before. :laughing

Also: Thank GAWD for Jeremy Lin, he's keeping the NY media from rambling on about the Super Bowl...

Not really. I'm still reading all kinds of blather about it. Lin is just keeping it out of the local media.

+1

blackouts are the fault of ownership charging too much, rather than the fault of customers not paying enough.

If the Raiders charged $50 per seat they would sell out every game for $3.15 million in ticket sales every game, probably in under 4 hours. Not sure what the parking and concessions take is on 63k fans, but still...

The salary cap is partially why I don't see a ditka-esque trade for Luck coming outta SF, and also why I don't see one of the big name WRs like Bowe or Vincent Jackson being signed.

They have a lot of people that need to be paid in-house.

What's the cap room looking like right now?

Depending on what the official number is when NFL releases it, but I read that it's expected to be around $121M.

Niners have a shade under $104M going towards the cap for next year, and they're rolling over almost $17M of available cap room from last year. If the cap is 121 and they've got the $17M credit, they can have up to $138M alloted to the salary cap for 2012 -- so roughly 35M depending on where the exact figures land.

I hear 1 Catch wants a new deal...

:laughing

They have a bunch of guys to resign.

what would be awesome though? Sign Mario Williams and just win every game 10-3.

yeah, take care of the guys who got you this far first, then worry about other things later.

Bowe though, with the same team...wow. mad skills and an unselfish team player who can outjump the opposition. And further, if there was a player to be had but put the 9ers at risk of losing one or two guys to FA, Bowe would be the one to get.

that's another great point, because no team can load up on both sides of the ball anymore. Mario would be damned good.

Bowe is the biggest name WR on the market though. If last year is any indication of the way Baalke works all the time, like Carlos Rogers and Madeiu Williams instead of paying huge money to Nnamdi, letting Dashon Goldson to go FA and then come back when nobody paid him big bucks, Aldon Smith instead of Prince Amukumra, etc... I really don't expect a big ticket guy brought in.

I'm thinking they pay the in-house guys - Alex Smith, Carlos Rogers, Ahmad Brooks, Ted Ginn, Josh Morgan, then franchise Dashon Goldson if he doesn't want a fair deal. I think they target a WR like Pierre Garcon from Indy or Stevie Johnson from Buffalo and then draft one in the 2nd or 3rd round as well.

but I still want Mario Williams :x

It's a perfect fit, too, opposite Aldon Smith with Willis and Bowman on the insides.

Do you think Aldon Smith is going to stick with his rookie deal?

Franchise tag isn't a fair deal?

:laughing

;)

He turned down a 5/25 deal last year. He's going to want big money. If he doesn't agree to something that's fair for both sides, he'll be franchised and get 6.2 or whatever the franchise number is for a safety and be gone after 2012.

At least for another year until he's a full time player and can demand serious money, yeah.

sorry, that wasn't specifically directed at you. the "trade all of the 53 man roster for Luck!!" drivel has been going on for a while. it was directed at the idea of such an abomination of a trade. it gets on my last nerve because it's myopic and generally indefensible aside from the "what if" Luck becomes the next Brady. even then, as we've seen, Brady can't do it all himself.

after getting such a soft market last year it's possible it's still soft and he end up with 5/25 or maybe a little less.... :dunno
