The Official 2015/2016 NFL Thread

slipping here. 12 pages in before I realized you fuckers had moved on. :laughing

thought we were staying on 2014 until the draft? :nchantr oh well. :cool
MMQB - http://mmqb.si.com/2015/03/10/49ers-free-agency-roster-changes-patrick-willis-frank-gore/

before i start - I am happy for Gore and will root for Indy to win SB50. heartbroken he couldn't stay Niner for life. He was the teams torchbearer in the decade of darkness before Harbs. Will always root for Gore until he retires. Even over the Niners. Few players have been as quietly amazing as he has over the length of an incredibly long career for an RB. A career that was expected to not even last one training camp.... amazing man.

so to recap Niners to date....

GONE
Harbaugh and Co. ---> .700(?) win % coach kicked to curb.
Gore ---> Indy
Iupati ---> Cards
Willis ---> Retirement
Culliver ---> N.A.I.P.T.
Crabtree ---> who the fuck cares (not soon enough)
Miller ---> Jail. Soon to be dropped. (ouch. :( )
S. Johnson ---> Released (oof! liked him, too much $$?)
Skuta ---> Jags

UNCERTAIN
Cox ---> Titans or Browns (pending)
J.Smith ---> Retirement (pending)
Bowman ---> Injury, return value uncertain (fuck the Seacawks)
A.Smith ---> can he get his head straight?
Kap ---> Trade rumors?
Wilhoite ---> keeper now that Willis is gone?
Borland ---> Injury prone? Recovery quality?

NEW
Torrey Smith ---> WR
J. Simpson ---> WR
Tomsula ---> Only active HC with a 1.000 win %. so there's that.

well then.....

last thoughts - it looks grim but i am optimistic. i think Tomsula and Co will do better than expected, although not necessarily better than Harbs. i also think the team still has talent.

i look forward to the games.

D.Dockett --> DL

I'm not sure how productive he'll be but he may be a good change of pace or PR specialist.

as like last year, the 9ers' fortunes will rest on the arm and legs of Kaepernick. if he's servicable, the team will be competitive. if he repeats last year, they're out of hte playoffs again.

Gore ---> Hyde
Iupati ---> Brandon Thomas
Willis ---> Bowman
Culliver ---> dunno this is a tough one to replace
Crabtree ---> Torrey Smith
Miller ---> Should come back or Trey Millard takes his place
S. Johnson ---> Bruce Ellington
Skuta ---> Ahmad Brooks

Really the hardest ones to take leaving are Willis and Culliver -- but Willis only played 6 games last year and it frees up enough cap money to either keep Ahmad Brooks as an expensive backup/rotation guy like Skuta was.

Culliver got paid big from Washington for what he is though. Look for SF to target a CB early in the draft now.

I don't know, man. The West is still super competitive and I think there is a legit chance the Niners might be the worst team in that division this year. The Rams and Cards have been getting pretty damn good the last couple of years. It will be interesting to see.

it's possible for sure. my impression is that they're falling apart, but the reality seems more like all the moves may be just a small net loss on defense and small net gain on offense. the biggest difference could be Kaep's performance. he has single-handedly won games for them. he needs to do more

Yeah, I see the loss of Iupati as worse for Kaep's fortunes. When he got hurt, things went south badly. I hope they can find young talent to plug that hole.

I find that hard to take fierce exception to, but I don't have a lot of hope for him. He was Harbaugh's hand picked boy. It seems like when Harbaugh checked out last year, that was when Kaep fell apart. Do you think a new coach can save him?

Iupati is actually pretty bad at pass protection, but he is a fucking mauler in the run game. Also Brandon Thomas should be able to step right in and play at guard, he was a 1st round talent who was injured and SF took him in the 3rd then basically IRed him immediately so he could fully recover.

I think the bigger problem with the line last year was injuries to Anthony Davis and Daniel Kilgore and Alex Boone taking his sweet ass time to get into playing shape after his holdout.

Marcus Martin also got hurt, and there were times that Joe Looney and Jonathan Martin were starting games on the OLine.

They really just need to stay healthy and not have a bunch of patchwork BS and the line should be OK.

I think Kaep will be fine. Like I said above, the OLine being in shambles didn't help considering they're trying to make him a pocket passer, and that requires some semblance of a pocket. I wish I had some clue as to why the WRs suddenly developed the drops last season, but that makes his numbers look worse too.

Yeah, I think losing Iupati was a bigger deal than a lot of guys seem to think, but I've always been over fixated on trench play. Still, it is not just getting the ball to your guy, but how you get it to him, how is the zip, how is the spin? Bad passes under pressure can be adversely impacted even though they get to the hands and that could explain the drops.

Iupati never did grade out well as a pass blocker. I can't count the number of pucker events I've had watching games when his guy goes by him like he wasn't even there. From what I've seen B.Thomas isn't much better. I'll agree I've seen far too many wide open receivers overlooked by Kap. We'll see if this is the year he pulls it together.

P.S. The more I think about it the more I'm thinking the "trade" talk involving Kap is similar to the same that occurred last year with Harbs. It may be the FO thinks this is a motivational tool? I think it's completely counter productive. Everyone knows the NFL is a cut throat business. And there is enough pressure to succeed without adding the additional uncertainty that come with trade talks.

Well assuming Cox doesn't come back the Niners have at least 2 decent CB's.... Brown and Johnson.

Mike Wallace to the Vikings for a 5th. Miami also giving Minnesota a 7th rounder.

Seems awfully cheap.

Niners add Reggie Bush? Hopefully not too much $$...

I like Kendall Hunter, if healthy.
