I have to say, I hope high hopes for a terrific era of broken rebuilding in the City of Brotherly Loathe.
Essentially, yes, but my point is that no one is going to pay that much for a guy that is a question mark after 4/1. For $15 mill you get Raperburger, Phillip Rivers, Eli Manning guys that are proven top 10 dudes. For a few million more you get Peyton. Hell, Brady is a few million less than what Kaep will cost next year, but he is not playing for money now, just legacy. The point is that when you could buy RGIII or Blake Bortles for like HALF of what Kaep costs, why the fuck would you invest in a year of Kaep to find out if he is worth keeping around at that price? You just buy a cheaper project QB or you draft and hope for the best. That is the problem with the deal, right now, Kaep is a project QB at Franchise QB prices. That makes him seriously hands off for a trade.
I know Mike keeps talking about how team friendly the contract is, but that is only for a team that has made a commitment to him as a Franchise guy. ANy other team would only buy him with a, "let him play for a year and see ho whe does," mentality and the cost to do that for him is like 6-7 mill over what other guys like that are going for. No other team in their right mind would commit to a franchise guy with a big question mark over his head at that price when they could buy Mark Sanchez for like 1/3 and see how that works out, but then again, the Eagles did just trade Nick Foles and a First rounder for Sam Bradford.
There may be questions surrounding Kap. But there is no way in hell he's valued on the same level as RGIII, Bortles, and Sanchez. He may look a bit pricey as a try-out for a year deal. But the beauty of the contract is that's exactly all you have to cough up. His contract doesn't force a team to cough up a bunch of money beyond the single year if they don't want to.
I appreciate the numbers you threw out there for what you consider top tier QB. I'd counter that the likes of Romo and Cutler are getting the same and even more. In the balance I'd say it's not a huge risk. And relative to the current market there is value in teams exploring it. Far more than you seem to give it.
I have to say, I hope high hopes for a terrific era of broken rebuilding in the City of Brotherly Loathe.
