Yeah Smith sure balled out going 12-26 for 196 yards in that game.

It was destiny. Only the heroes in blue could stop the beasts from Boston. It takes a Giant to stop a dynasty, the Seachickens proved that.

Coaches do not scream obscenities and verbally abuse players from the opposing teams during the games. It doesn't happen. Unless you're Joey Porter. It doesn't happen.

Wrong-o, happens constantly brah! Sure, Porter is a douche (remember when he punched that Bengal in the casino?) and an extreme example but coaches are cursing all the time.

The 49ers wouldn't have beaten the Ravens in the superbowl with Smith. It was only another incredibly-convenient power outage that allowed them to have a chance in that game.

It was the 49ers defense that sucked in the SB loss to the Ravens, not the QB. Flacco picked them apart like Swiss cheese before the power outage fiasco.

The Raider time comes to mind. I kept watching the games and going through this mental calculus of trying to figure out why this guy who seemed really good was unsuccessful, insofar as fault.

How successful do you think Brady would be on the Cleveland Browns? Similarly, The Raiders were a fucking gawd awful team when Palmer got to them. Its not like he was horrid there. He completed over 60% of his passes, threw for close to 7,000 yards and 25 TD's in just 24 games there. I'd be interested to see what the stats of the 24 previous and post 24 games were for the other starting QB's there but I dont want to look them up. No doubt in my mind that had Hue Jackson been allowed to stay, he would have righted that ship with Palmer.

Palmer didnt suddenly suck after leaving Cincinnati and drink a magic potion before arriving in Arizona. Same QB, better supporting cast in Arizona. Palmer has the best deep ball in the NFL, and when he has a quality running game, really plays his best. He's not very mobile.

One day I would love to know exactly what the hell happened in Cincinnati with him. Can't complain really, as its worked out for both he and the Bengals. I suppose I'll root for him to win it all.

.

No. It doesnt. Its unsportsmanlike conduct and would be flagged constantly. There is plenty of cursing on the sidelines. But none of it is directed towards opposing players. It isnt. That Joey Porter does it is not new in Cincinnati. Players have mentioned it before, and they mention it because it doesnt normally happen. The Defensive Co for the Bengals went so far as to ask Porter, prior to kickoff, not to do it in the playoff game. Its not normal no matter how much you want it to be.

Not bad, considering the defense on the other side also shot down the Patriots in the SB, and they still could've won it in OT. :dunno

Almost a great worst to first story.

Those that feel Smith got a raw deal from the 9ers are looking at 3 things right now: Gabbert is the starting 9er QB, Kaep is a season away from becoming a footnote, and Smith has quietly proven he's an NFL QB, a couple of big wins away from being a "Top Tier" player. I say good for him, everyone loves a story of redemption.

I'm also hoping its a Cards/Chiefs SB, I think Palmer deserves his shot, too.

Completing less than 50% of your passes isn't "not bad"

and about 70 of those yards were run after catch on a Vernon Davis TD.

Smith is the same QB he's always been. He's good, but he's nothing special. Kaepernick WAS better.

I just think it's funny how people bitch and moan about it so much. He got his job taken by a better player and then got traded to a good team. What's the damn problem?

Amazing they were still in that game, I guess.

... and. no problems for Smith, that's for sure, he's in the playoffs, and that leads to "what could've beens" for 9er fans that feel screwed by their ownership decisions the last few years.

first thoughts

- did Kelly learn from his mistakes in Philly?
- does he keep the current coaching staff?
- does this mean we're back to Kaep?
- do they still draft QB after Gabbert's performance?
- should I now draft Gabbert in the first round of my FFL league (please help, I'm awful at that game)?

.... and now Niners fans are on the Chip Kelly train. For better or worse. :|

I've been so turned off by that organization the past 2 seasons. At least it wasnt an old coach because an old coach means 2-3 seasons max. Maybe Chip can have success and last. I doubt it due to the meddling ceo and GM. Jed thinks he knows football when he just is a a 'team manager'. His parents sign the checks. Trent is a glorified scout. I'm not optimistic.

Look at the Steelers. Hire a young coach and let him do his thing. Previous Steeler coach, Cowher, was there like 14 years or something. Sad thing is that wont happen ever again with any NFL team. Have a string of average years and no playoffs, coach has to go.

Re Kelly hiring: He's hell on defenses with that quick stuff. Wow. They better go out and get some linebackers etc. because they are gonna be on the field a lot.

I am truly surprised. Well, it will be interesting for a year anyway. And if Kaep is still around, I think it will work out....

It seems to me that regardless of who the head coach is, with the ownership and front office continually making poor decisions, no one will succeed in Santa Clara. For that same reason, I don't like Hue Jackson's chances in Cleveland, though I believe he is an excellent coach. Time will tell.
