The Official 2015/2016 NFL Thread

This is not a winning recipe for Denver. Carolina's D is still very good. And that offense...That front end they have on the offense does not get enough credit. They straight rolled up the Cards and brushed them aside like waste. The Denver front on D is undersized compared to the Cards. They are going to get mauled.

Whatever the line is Carolina will cover and it'll be over 50.

But seems like when a team completely destroys the other team in the conference championship, they come out flat in the Super Bowl after 2 weeks of media hype telling them how great they are. Remember when the Bills beat the Raiders 51-3? They were crowned as SB champs but they still had to play the underdog Giants....

This quote from Cam cracked me up:

As only he can, Newton compared the process from his rookie year to now to grits and collard greens. After posting losing records each of his first two seasons, the Panthers have won the division three consecutive seasons and now have what looks to be the best overall team in the NFL heading into a Super Bowl 50 matchup against the Denver Broncos.

"It wasn't going to be like instant grits, quick grits," Newton said. "It was going to be a process like long-cooked collard greens. I think those collard greens are brewing right now. You can smell it from a mile away."

I can see your point. The Giants team that played the Bills that year did have the number one D. They were a stout crew: Marshall, DeOssie and Johnson anchoring the inside with the LT and Banks rounding out a front end that was pretty much un-blockable on most plays. With Walls locking down one side of the back end. That was a special group. Denver's D has talent. Not like the '90-'91 Giants though.

I think the point I'm making is that the Broncos do not have the number one D. And the front end of their defense, while very good, is not meaty enough to stand up to Carolina. Let's not forget Carolina already played and beat the actual number one defense in the playoffs. And had they kept the machine rolling in the second half and kept Cam's head in the game that one may have ended as lopsided as the first half did.

One of the things I really liked about the Broncos was that the O spread out the passes to six different receivers in the opening series. I didn't even know the names of some of these guys. It was like they had a storage closet and kept pulling out strange receivers. Demaryius Thomas was one of the LAST to get a reception in that series. By not having a key receiver I think that's how they competed with Beilicheck's D. I expect the same in the SB. That Manning has the skill to find them, despite his age and injury weaknesses was pretty impressive, as often QBs have guys that are clicking and guys that aren't. Unfortunately, good ol Vernon dropped his chance in that sequence and I don't think was ever heard from again, nestpaw?

Oh yeah, the tablet malfunction "irony" was not lost on me either. It was funny.

Well then I guess I've been overruled. :twofinger

Wouldn't you say Brady is a better passer than Newton? And yet Brady's QB rating yesterday was 56 against the stout Denver defense that smacked Brady around often. He will have lots of bruises and soreness today.

Miller and Ware could be up in Cam's grill the whole game...

Cam's O-line is way better than Brady's....

I'm really glad the Patriots didn't make it to the Superbowl this year after not even suffering a light slap on the wrist from their cheating to get there last year.

If the NFL was run by somebody who was more interested than just collecting his $40 Million compensation, they would have been kept out of the playoffs this year for cheating last year (It was too late to change teams once the facts really came out).

Cam's O-line is way better than Brady's....

The three guys on the interior of the Panthers o-line that form a wall and block very well, that's true. But their tackles are weak, as they will soon find out when they meet Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. :p

You're discounting the point brought up about the difference between the Pat's O-line and Carolina's. That's okay if you want to do it. And you're also discounting the fact that Carolina has a well balanced attack. The Pat's had the 4th best passing attack with the 30th in rushing. Compare that to Carolina's 24th and 2nd respectively. Carolina's offensive approach is almost 180 difference than the Pats. As for Miller and Ware? Great players and they'll contribute, but Cam isn't a statue in the pocket like Brady. Unlike Brady Cam can burn you with his legs if rushing lanes are open to him.

I see a repeat of the NFC championship game. Let's not forget about Carolina's D. And it'll be a sad way for Manning to end what could possibly be his last hurrah ala YA Tittle:

I think the point I'm making is that the Broncos do not have the number one D. .

They were number one in points allowed, which is really what defenses should be ranked by. Carolina is favored, and its hard to argue that they dont have the overall better team, but a blowout against that denver defense seems unlikely.

The Panthers' left tackle was once ranked among the worst left tackles in the entire NFL. Just so you know.

Hmmm...I guess the data I'm looking at is wrong then?
PFR has the ranking in points allowed like this:
1. Seattle - 277
2. Cinci - 279
3. KC - 287
4. Denver - 296
5. Minn - 302
6. Carolina - 308

Even ESPN has it ranked this way on points allowed.

What am I doing wrong here?

That was then...this is now.

Denver gonna feast on that subpar left tackle of Carolina's. BOOM! Blind-side hit on Cam. Coming soon.

Arizona has a terrible pass rush...their leading sack guy was 35-year-old Dwight Freeney. Panthers o-line had an easy time of it yesterday, they knew they were facing a team with a weaksauce pass rush.

Broncos pass rush is fierce, their secondary is stout (though they do have some crucial injuries in the secondary).

Carolina is going to post up ~200 yards total rushing. Bank it. Pass rush = nullified.

Oher graded out fine in pass protect, his problem was run blocking this year.

And still they found a way to lead the league in rushing attempts while averaging 4.3 per carry. No matter how I stack this game it keeps coming up as a Carolina blowout.

200 yards rushing against Denver's defense? Haha...no.

Dat o-line is gonna be diggin' graves, yo! Bank it!
