The Official 2015/2016 NFL Thread

they won the division at 9-7, on the last week of the season iirc...but that's not important

How the Giants were able to pull it all together for that epic playoff run is beyond me. part of the magic of the game.

They have a shot, sure. It's harder to imagine it happening this year, since the division has gotten pretty tough since 2011/12. I'm guessing 11-5 at the very, very best, including very tough games in dallas and philly. oh I could just imagine the turmoil caused in those two cities if the g-men were to sneak past both of them...

If it happened, they would be going into the playoffs completely under the radar as a contender...and they seem to be very comfortable with that.

They're a pretty thin team all in all, even healthy. and it's also assuming Eli stops throwing picks again. a long shot, but not out of the question.

Ack, you're right, I had to check. it was the '07 Sperbowl the Mighty, 18 and No! that we went in and won as a wild card. The 2011 win is where we set the record for least regular season wins by a Superbowl Champion.

Eli Manning doesn't always go to the playoffs, but when he does, he beats the Patriots in the Superbowl. :teeth

I'm going to troll all my Seahawk fan amigos from back home with this when the season starts:

"Raiders defeat Seahawks in Super Bowl 50, you heard it here first."

:laughing

Same Coach in the Picture, Same QB in the pictures, still lining up. We even rehired Spagnuolo as DC for this season. :dunno

We are 3 seasons removed from the last Superbowl win. The last 2 years we have been scored as the most injured team in football, which I hope we can get straight this year. Calling New York Giants football of the last 10 years a bad product is just silly. There are only a handful of teams taht can claim as good a product and none of theose teams sell as many tickets as we do. ;)

Last time we were 3 seasons removed from a Superbowl win, we went to the playoffs with a 9-7 record as a wildcard team and won it again.

See you in January. ;)

Yup, ancient history. What have they done for ya lately? :laughing

that was a great game.

almost as great as when the Raiders became the first team ever to win the superbowl as the wildcard. now that I think about it, Eli reminds me of two-time superbowl champ Plunkett. average regular season qbs but find a way to step it up when it matters most.

That was one of the best Superbowls ever. Brings a tear to my eye how great that game was. :cry

Eli is actually a MUCH better QB than Plunkett, but the game was different back then. I can see the comparison though.

For sure Eli is a higher caliber qb, but like most qbs past 2005 or so, I'd like to see if they could survive the type of hits qbs like Plunkett and simms et al used to take. It's a different game.

Eli could. Still holds the longest running active Iron Man Streak for a QB in the 16 game season NFL. He is about the same size as Plunkett too.

Favre is still #1 and probably will never be beaten since most guys are retired out of their starter spot before they get a chance to beat his streak of 321 straight starting games. If Eli lasts for 3 more years he can potentially beat Peyton, who holds the #2 all time spot at 208. Eli is the highest active streak and current all time #3 at 167 currently. The top old school guys are Jaworski #5 (Philly) at 116 and Ferguson #8 (Buffalo) at 107. I'm not saying Favre or the Manning boys are tougher than the old guys, like you say, the games are different now, but certainly those wildly long tough guy streaks are a strong case that they could run in the same pack.

SF just traded their 15th spot to San Diego for the 17th pick, a 4th round pick, and a 5th round pick next year....

(SD picked RB Melvin Gordon from Wisconsin.... say, didn't the 9ers have an opening at RB?)

I hope this Flowers kid works out as a Starting Tackle in the NFL. If so, we might be getting back to 2007 form with our O-Line pretty soon. NYG with a boring pick in the trenches for the first round as usual.

Uh, no? Hyde, Hunter, and Bush.

Awful. Awful, awful pick.

why is it awful... from most of what I read it was the right choice for them. They traded away that 15th pick, got the guy they wanted anyways and got 2 more picks..

and he's a depth pick. it's a Baalke trend.

Granted this dude will see more daylight should Smith really retire (I think he will) but he's not needed to be a starter.

Tony Jerrod Eddie, Tank Carradine, and Darnell Dockett on the ends. Ian Williams, Glen Dorsey in the middle. Quinton Dial at all three spots but mostly backing up NT.

... then Arik Armistad. I see a whole lot of veterans giving him the time and space to learn the technique to match his physical skills. also weren't the Niners kicking the tires on bringing back Ricky Jean-Francouis? he was pretty good - not worth what the Colts paid him but an above avg player for sure.

i.e. - the opposite of AJ Jenkins lol

In Baalke we trust... right?

wasnt eric reid thought of in the same way... why him? and he has been great.

I think theres a lot of upside in Armstead

Of all the young players I think need to retire because they are prone to concussion Reid is at the top of my list. Dude's jaw is high quality, leaded crystal.
