The Official 2015/2016 NFL Thread

How many NFL games has Tomsula coached? Does he have an idea how to be a good head coach? Can't tell til the season starts.

Good to have optimism for your team, that's normal for any fan. Realism says Niners will have a losing record though, sorry.

Does anyone here remember the last 49er game of the 2010 season? Tomsula got what was a team in complete disarray to perform even though it didn't matter one bit at that point. They didn't just win either. They went out and punished the Cards. Not much of a sample size. Far better than if he'd been on the losing side in that one though. It may be possible that the biggest mistake Baalke has made so far was picking Harbaugh over Tomsula in 2011. We'll find out soon enough.

I'm not, and I talk a lot of crap, but really...who are the 49ers this year? I don't think anyone can really predict how they'll do. they weren't as bad as their 8-8 record last year. sure, they lost a lot of proven talent especially on defense. And their head coach definitely doesn't have the personality that Harbs did. I think 6-10 is reasonable. I'll give them 7-9.

for the Raiders: 8-8. they go 3-3 in the division, sweeping the Chargers. they beat the teams they can, falter a bit at the end but scrape a .500 record out of the season:

I could see the Raiders beating Cincinnati, home opener and all, but I think Baltimore would be a loss (Flacco>Dalton), and I could see Tennessee as a loss, and hope above hopes, a win against the team Del Rio came from, a stunner against the Broncos.

Beating the Chargers twice would make the Raiders the "Kings of LA". :laughing

Hard to say how Chicago's going to be, who is Cutler throwing to?

he still has alshon jeffery in a contract year, martellus bennet, matt forte can catch out of the backfield. and once healthy, their 1st round draft pick Kevin White. so yeah, he still has a ton of weapons. I still can't quite figure out why it didn't pan out for them last year.

Neither can I....

^ ha, yeah sure. he has the stuff to succeed. seems to be too big of a headcase though. who knows, maybe this year will be different.

anyways, regardless of the differences in who the Raiders will beat, what do you think their record will be?

I've said it before, I think he's Jeff George 2.0....

I'm hopeful that you are correct with your 8-8... happy with 7-9, wishful for 9-7 some some surprises... but just some idea that they are going in the right direction like they showed at the end of last year with the wins over the 9ers and the Chiefs. They had a couple huge turds last year (Rams, Broncos), but they seemed to be in more game than they were out of (Seattle, Chargers, Jets games come to mind), but young teams do that.

Hey, no where to go but up.

yeah, pretty much. I think you nailed it with the blowout games: that should be focus #1 for the Del Rio brigade, is to keep those mofos in the game for the whole 60 minutes. one may say that a loss is a loss...but a 52 point shutout loss is on a whole different level. If they stay competitive in every game, and even suffer some heartbreaking defeats last-minute style (hey, it's still the Raiders), I think that's a win in itself.

A huge tell is that when I see the veterans interviewed at camp seem actually excited and all the players are commenting on the energy Del Rio has brought with him.. Musgrave seems to be bringing in uptempo play calling and I'm looking fwd to Latavius Murray being the featured back. Questions on DB's for sure, but the core of linebackers looks really good (when they aren't celebrating 25 yards behind the line of scrimmage), and it's not like Norton knows anything about linebacking or linebackers (that was a pretty good group in Seattle he coached).

Latavius Murray seemed legit as fuck last year.

Preseason game against the Rams, I liked what I saw... who's going to be back-up QB, Ponder or McGloin?
