The Official 2017/2018 NFL Thread

I have been waiting a while for this assessment. It didn't disappoint.

SHITBIRDS FOREVER!!!

Question of the day: why did Belichick let go of Garoppalo?

1) He really isn't the QB of the future post-Brady and Belichick knows it first-hand.

2) He might have been the QB of the future but in the plug and play world of the Patriots, they will just gamble on finding one when it becomes necessary.

I really don't know the answer but I am nagged by 1) guess..

3) Salary Cap.

Basically this. NE couldn't keep both Brady and JG next year, and there are also some people that have said Kraft stepped in and said that they WILL be keeping Brady until he hangs it up, and Brady's said he wants to play 3-4 more seasons.

There are also rumors that BB is going to retire the same time Brady does, but who knows about that.

So if you're Josh McDaniel, do you wait for Darth Hoodie to retire with Brady, or do you take the Giants HC position when it is inevitably open on January 3rd, 2018?

You think he's learned from his brief stint as HC in Denver? The Hoodie is the power behind all their moves afaic. And that includes the weekly game plans for both offense and defense. McDaniel is just the mouth speaking the words and calling the plays. My money is on The Hoodie being the final word on critical plays during games with McDaniel just running the system/plan he's been handed for the most part.

Hey, the dude won a playoff game, against the Steelers, with Tim Tebow... gotta give'm some credit on that one.

Did you see the passes Tebow threw to make that happen? Did he ever repeat that performance? That was more luck than skill. I'll admit McDaniel may have learned some lessons and may be ready for another shot at an HC spot. Still wouldn't be surprised if he fails miserably again.

BB coaching staff prolly scouted out their next Brady already, must be better then grappolo

I think it depends on what the Owners do with this team. If Jerry Reese is still there, I would stay put as McDaniel. Everyone always says the Giants ownership is the gold standard to come work for, but the GM is poison and he won't give you what you need to win. You will have to win IN SPIT of him, not because of him.

If they finally cut this GM loose and are going for a fresh start in the Office, I say dude should jump on it. I would keep Spags on Defense and bring in his own guy for OC. This D can still be salvaged into a top 5 Unit and he would have one of the most prosing young receiving corps in the NFL to toy with (Odell, Sheppard, Ingram), not to mention a slew of Top 3 Draft Picks to buy new toys with. A good Coach could salvage these Giants into a Superbowl Win in his Second year if the QB situation doesn't get too rocky. I think a smart guy tries to wring a couple more years out of Eli while developing the future, maybe bringing next years top pick onto the field in his second season.

You don't get style points... :laughing

The Broncos weren't the well oiled machine they became later under Elway in 2011. The nucleus for the defense was there, but they were coming out of the Cutler/Shanahan era choosing between Orton or Tebow. I may not like Tebow (I don't mind him), but he had "something" when he played, when he was given the chance. You call it luck, he may call it "Divine Intervention" :gsxrgrl , but that was a heckuva overtime play to win that game... Just like McDaniel drew it up, I'm sure. :laughing

Spags seem to be reverting to HIS headcoaching days... he should probably get the boot, that Rams 3rd and 36 TD should have sealed his fate.

If I was McD, I'd take the Giants job.

Bills are benching Taylor.

Projected starting QBs this weekend: Nathan Peterman, Kellen Clemens, Tom Savage, Blaine Gabbert, Case Keenum, Brock Lobster.

oof.

I'm not sure if I buy it. I mean, clearly the D has quit on this team, but I am blaming McAdoo more than Spags at this point. He had these players running like a top last year, the plan was working beyond expectations.

that's a double edged argument. if McD waits for hoodie to leave he'd run himself out of favor with NE the same as he would in NY.

he should take the NY gig *if* he can assemble a good staff around him.

The only way to find out is twist the throttle and hope you're ready for it. I agree. Worst thing that happens is he bins it like he did in Denver. Not sure it's the best move for NY though.

Dude, even the Harbaugh Circus would be better than McAdoo.

Of course it would. The 9ers won with him. What’s McDaniel’s record as HC?

11-17. Most likely would have been worse but he was canned with four games left.

oof.

I'd replace Keenum with Cutler, and add Bortles on the oof list. Case has been pretty good. Cutler and Bortles...not so much.

This is the first Steelers game I’ve watched all season. They look solid to me so far. :dunno I get not wanting to jinx your team by talking them up too much but they look legit.

And they polished off very nicely makin the Titans look like they aren’t as good as their record.

Mariota lost the game for them. It was a good showing by the Steelers but I don’t put much stock in it. They barely had a running game and the Titan defense gave up some easy yards. But 4 (?) interceptions is hard to recover from. We got short field twice and came away with field goals. Two gusts of wind and we got zero points.

Obviously I’m happy about the season but I’m being cautious. I see the holes and I’m sure someone like belicheck or even Reid will find away to exploit them. I’m not sure we could handle the Eagles.
