The Official 2017/2018 NFL Thread

This might be because Im not an Eli fan... but I dont see what the outrage is.

The NFL is always talked about as a business right... So the Giants are making the smart business decision and benching their trade value before he gets hurt in a game because of the terrible line.

So, you are foolish to think he can be hurt. The NFL has yet to prove that he can be. ;)

That being said, this is more about people being upset that the face of a franchise will be benched for performance with his Top 3 WR being out injured, his O-Line sucking because of injury, and his playbook being constantly called out for weak and unimaginative direction. Apparently Mara was out of town when they made the call, which is even worse. Really this is just more mismanagement by coach Mac. If he has a stink game, you pull him and let Smith or Webb play the 2nd half to see what you have. When it doesn't do anything (it won't) you let him start again following week. You try your next man behind to see what you have and then you let your starter try again the following week with his licks in place.

A lot of people are squeaking that he will go to Jacksonville, but I think that is just people talking about the next best fairy tale they want to see.

I see this (and I am not alone in his) as worse than when Montana got sent to Kansas, at least they had a Future HoF guy in the line behind him. Geno Smith ain't shit and I would be surprised to see Webb do much better. I think the future is in next years draft, and they should have let the greatest QB in franchise history and a future HoF guy, the best guy of the legendary class of '04, ride out the rest of this rotten season and then gone to next steps.

:laughing
Okay, I've watched the whole thing multiple times and there is no point at which Crabs did anything commendable. None. And he sure as hell didn't pay any homage to the great beasts Tooz or Zado.
Left AND right hooks? :laughing :facepalm
I didn't see anything either.

I did see a cameraman almost get taken out, then another media guy get taken down.

Maybe they were judged by WWF standards! :laughing

blah blah propoganda hyperbole blah blah

But that is one awesome draft class.

You had 3 guys come out of that class. Rivers, Roethlisberger and Manning.

Rivers has put up good numbers, but has never been able to deliver. Raperberger has better stats and the Rings to back them up, but his career is marred by sexual assault and motorcycle accident stupidity. Manning is ahead of both of them in yards completed and passing touchdowns (which will probably change now that he is ending first), while remaining a consummate professional and team leader without ever missing a game for over a decade.

That is why he is the best.

big ben and eli both have two rings.

big ben won a ring even though he had a 22.7 qb rating.

eli wins.

Eli was given the opportunity to start and keep his streak going and he declined. I think my man is going to retire.

He should go be backup for Prescott in Dallas. As puketastic as that is to a Giants fan (among others), he will get 1) an offensive line to protect him, and b) revenge on the Giants.

Thing is, the greaseball will get fired too, so I guess it wouldn't be best served cold there....

Trade value?

Do you think the NYG coach was brought in only to make the change at QB? being paid to be the scapegoat?

:laughing

No. The GM is a disaster, Couglin was the scapegoat. It is similar to the Harbaugh situation in SF except with a less hysterical coach and a more talented QB.

I agree, but I base it more on Character, which does matter for HoF contention. I think Ben has a better career QB rating, which does count. I would not be surprised if he passed Eli in yards this season if Eli doesn't paly there rest of the season.

I see 2 scenarios.

1) Eli is released so he can go wherever he wants. They owe him that much and will give it to him.

2) The finally can Jerry Reese (GM) and McAdoo at the end of the season. Eli stays on for his final contract year to prep up the QB of the future they draft in the Top 3 next year.

Scenario 2 is a much better option, but after this year, the high priced free agent defense starts falling apart, so we may have missed our window.

No trade clauses are usually put in place by the player; he can void it if he wants to go somewhere else, he just has much more control over where he would go.

My point was that the Giants can’t just unload Eli’s contract. Eli has all the control.:thumbup
