Vegan riding gear

I'm a vegetarian, buy zero leather with the exception of motorcycle gear.

That's a pretty big exception. I might as well say, "I eat no meat, with the exception of beef." Or, "I don't use any fossil fuels, with the exception of the 10 gallons a week I put in my motorcycle."

Either you do, or you don't. There is no halfway. :x

and i say there is no halfway in your complicity. because farmed animals suffer. they live a horrid lives of abuse, stressed beyond ever being comfortable again, are given antibiotics and growth hormones against, and to manage, the inhumanity shown them. they live their days in fear, wallowing in shit and sadness and waiting for one thing only, their death. it is a pitiful life, and you can say you are a part of that if you will stand up to such an admission.

it is abusive. it is inhumane. it is beyond any moral code to treat another living creature this way. it is only allowed because so few people witness the torture of animals this way. this is not your infested flea problem, nor your hairball remedy catfood dilemma. treating your house pets any less lovingly than i hope you do would have you fined and ostracized. admitting what a higher thinking meat eater you are because you safely and painlessly select a plastic wrapped cutlet with minimal trauma at safeway may, in a better world, get you just the same. jeering at a person for supporting even the smallest gesture of treating animals ethically is pathetic.

So, what do we ned to think of PETA when they were killing annimals in their care?

Just asking.

And getting all high and mighty about not eating meat, while being perfectly willing to see cows get slaughtered for their hides, is hypocritical.

wow - no shortage of ignorant toolboxes here - I almost expected more from the SFO area - but uneducated rednecks are a large block of sportbikers everywhere <sigh> Anyone who cannot see the global benefit of vegetarianism is... I've already used the word "ignorant" and "uneducated" um... probably thinks that the last 7 years have been the best in modern US history :laughing

But hey, dumb folk have been making fun of things they don't understand for decades, don't dare to be different :twofinger

Sidi and Oxtar (what ever they're called now) make vegan boots. Regarding gloves and protective gear (textile aside) - no clue. I'm a vegetarian, buy zero leather with the exception of motorcycle gear. I've a 2 piece suit and a Dianese jacket plus leather gloves. Idealistically I'm not charged @ that, but if I'm going to be potentially sliding across pavement I want all the help I can get.

I love how there seems to be a subsect of people who believe that if someone isnt like them there dumb redneck's or just plain stupid? it isnt just vegi's either, it seems to be a whole race of people who cant bring forth an intelligent argument or reply so they break down to the most primal level of name calling and acting stupid for their cause.

carlsbad im going to tell you straight up your a hypocrite, and you should be ashamed of yourself for coming here and spouting what you have. your parents should be so proud of you what with all the money they spent on your schooling and proper upbringing just so you could come onto an internet forum and tell everyone how much smarter you are then them cause you dont eat meat, "yet" you have no problem wearing their skin to keep you safe:wtf

please dont breed:thumbup

so wait i dont understand, what would you have us do then? let the animals mass produce themselves and kill us all off? should we not use any of the technological wonders that fossil fuels and animal research has brought us? what's the solution? your just as guilty as anyone here if your typing away on your computer or wearing shoes, what about the manure used to cultivate your precious vegi's? do you think those animals are treated any better then the ones in slaughter houses? it's easy to come on here and condem other people for their way of life, but you really need to look in the mirror and relize that you are part of the problem as well:|

Why is it so hard for people to help another person find information that they're looking for without interjecting an opinion as to the reasons they're looking for that information? Its one thing to suggest a compromise on boots and gloves, since the quality of non-hide boots and gloves seems to be rather diminished, its another thing to bring up the delicious steak you ate last night in a thread about gear suggestion.

I know that my mind is a lot sharper and quicker when I am eating lots of beef, and I have more energy and feel stronger and happier. If I am a little down, or moving slowly, a nice medium-rare ribeye reverses it like magic.

this started out as a simple question:

where do vagitarians get there gear?

and then the topic of textiles came into play, after the vagitarians saw fit to exclaim how the meat eaters would die from colon cancer. after the whole textiles use glue and pretty much everything uses glue so everyone is pretty much using animals post came into play the same old vagitarian rhetoric was thrown down. some people dont agree with this and voiced their opinions while other vagitarians decided to call most of the people on this board dumb rednecks because we didnt feel his overwhelming joy in being animal saviours yet then he let us know it was ok for him to wear leather but for us not to eat meat cause the animals are treated horribly:wtf.

Other people let the holyer than thou vagitarians know they were being hypocritical which is always an eye opener and hurts one feeling's.

I dont know though as thats just my take on the thread and where it went, coming from a red neck meat eaters perspective i could be very wrong though:wtf

:rofl

Aerostich is my recommendation

Another potentially informative post ruined. How about a Mod to take out the trash please

there actually is very little trash just lots of discussion with a little name calling mixed in, but as you obviously didnt read the thread all the way through before you posted for someone to take out the trash, what do you think holds the aerostich together and makes it water proof/ reppellant?

GLUE

where does GLUE come from?

ANIMALS

where do the ANIMALS come from?

the same place the MEAT comes from:thumbup

no kidding, where are the damn mods when you need them?

I love vag :blush

Let's keep it civil people. Someone wants info and recommendations on where to find vegan moto gear. If you've got an answer, share it. If not, move on, its not that big of a deal. Now, same goes for the vegans/vegetarians, bringing any political slant to this other than the request for info, is just going to start this debate all over again, and I'll end up having to close this thread. :(

Funny...that's the way I felt after reading most of the replies the original poster received to his question. Why anybody would then get there panties in a bunch when it was already going on is besides me.

Everybody, please adjust your panties. Thank you.

You left out the part of all the useless mocking replies from the enlightened meat eaters that peppered the majority of the thread since it's exception. But yes it's not going to end now that everybody has joined in the poo flinging.

AND PLEASE TAKE NOTE PEOPLE: it's vegetarian not vagitarian . Vagitarians eat carpets, not vegetables.

Yes there is. Cutting back in consumption of anything helps out. That's how people lower electric bills, their waistlines, cholesterol, or gas bills by buying more fuel efficient vehicles.

It's simple math, every little bit adds up.

ahem.... please use the multiple quote feature and see my post above :)

Why do some people in this thread think all glue comes from animals? I would bet that there is no animal glue in textile motorcycle suits.

This is true. The water and energy I waste by eating the occasional hamburger is partially offset by the fact that I don't smoke pot -- the production of which, depending on where and how it's grown, can also be very energy- and water-intensive.

:twofinger

if you don't have a solution, you are part of the problem. while it is true that it takes 21 pounds of vegitable protein to produce 1 pound of animal protein and that raising livestock for food is a terrible waste of resources, as well as clearly a cruel practice where one assmes a provider parent role to a trusting naive being only to oneday drive a spike though it's head, it does not provide a sound method of expressing an alternative by flaming persons with insults.
they have even made a machine that could make milk from grain, and in the future, expect similar with other foods.

as i say above, is it horid to do raise livestock for food, just so a species can overpopulate and have fast food.

yes, life is a risk, and at any moment a tiger may jump out and consume you. that is a natural process, just as hunting and fishing are, even is i do not agree with them morally. raising livestock is not. it makes much more sense to raise the high protein vegitation, like soy, instead. leather is mostly a by product of the livestock industry, so wearing leather is almost as bad as consuming the dead cows.

for those who cannot fathom the thought of consuming bland tofu, i suggest you try a restuarant in berkeley called 'long life vegi house'. they do wonders with the soybean, giving it texture and the flavour that you may be used to.

it is unfortuante that it is very difficult to find these meat substitutes in most markets, making it impractical to pursue these alternatives.

if you buy the textile products or invest in their development, they will continue to be made and more research will be done on creating that which has the same features as leather.

on that note, i will have to try a pair of the sidi boots, i was not aware that they were synthetic.

i met this hippy once who called himself 'earth hypocrite'. while i thought he could have used a bath, i did repect the fact that he was up front about his wanting to make the world a better place, but at the same time still consuming the luxuries that counter that, and admiting that without pointing the finger at others and labeling them.
