warr77's rear end collision in SF

Has anyone suggested that since the rider has the habit of putting down both feet, that the bike more or less got shot out from under him, thus sparing him much of the impact.
If he had been sitting flat assed, with one foot down, like I do, he would've absorbed much of the impact and would have been at risk for more whiplash type injury, or worse.

Long legs save lives?

An interesting viewpoint.

My bike has hard bags, I may not be so lucky either way.

to be honest, any of those streets in the richmond/sunset area are (in my opinion) "hard to split" streets considering the amount of inconsiderate drivers out there! :)

First of all I am glad you are ok. The video is good evidence for setting up early. I noticed in the video you looked off to your left shortly before the emergency stop. This is commonly known as checking your six at all times, a very instinctive and proactive life saving technique. I noticed you had a clear lane to the left. Whenever I am behind a vehicle and I have a clear lane to either side, I take the clear lane right away to increase my distance in front of me as well as my line of sight, regardless of the speed of someone approaching up that clear lane. I am able to accelerate to match their speed so as to move back over or laneshare ahead. But I see in the vid that the left lane was not so clear.

... we had a moto fatality near my home involving this very scenario. The rider went down with the bike and ended up under the vehicle. :(

FWIW, I made this thread in the training section originally for learning purposes and before War777 requested the other thread be closed. By then it would appear his video had already spread like wild fire. My first post is an embedding to his originaly video only, thus it's not working either. Sorry War777, let me know if you want this thread closed too.

Offtopic, ANYTIME a vid is posted on the internet, that's it. Some of you seem shocked that videos circulate on the web quickly.

Don't worry you just might have screwed him if the other side decides to investigate him and trust me a good lawyer can twist anything even something as clear cut as his video.

If the video is presented as evidence by one side, both sides get equal stab at it. It's not like the movies where the evidence just shows up out of nowhere. This did nothing to hurt his case.

lol please use some common sense and think about what's been posted and what you said.

Also, a little side note for you to contemplate-- most commonly, if they decide to do so, people will take accidents like this to a civil court. You watch too much courtroom drama on TV/movies.

Uhm... even a terribad lawyer would have been able to get a copy of this video. It's called discovery.
