When I do wear jeans I have knee pads, and under armor'd shorts on. I bounce when I hit the ground anywayzzz.

I've been saving up for some Draggin' Jeans or underarmor, but so far I just wear jeans. Does the fact that I rarely go over 50 mph count?

Would you run down your street as fast as you could and slide wearing your jeans?

How much faster do you ride than you run?

Pretty much full gear all the time - but then again, I am not a commuter - I ride weekend only. I can't get used to jeans mainly because my fat butt is sliding all over, and sometime I hit my balls onto the tank because of that :|

I've gone down at city speeds a few times wearing jeans. It's not particularly fun, but it's not like it ruined my summer either. Or scared me into only wearing full leather. Going down isn't fun period, no matter what you're wearing. Anyone who thinks the abrasion received on the hips and legs at 35mph is comparable to 75mph is mistaken. Besides, in city traffic the most likely injury will be from impact, and leather and kneepucks don't help much with that.

I wear jeans around town and don't feel the need to wear more. Is this foolish, quite possibly, but after 25 years of riding I'm tired of being lectured too about safety when other riders pull up in their full gear and then go tell me they are gonna go race the canyons. Good luck with that one.

Do you speak from experience? Padding has helped me with impacts. Put on some knee/shin armor and hit a brick wall with your knee as hard as you can. Then do the same without it.

I just went to the store and back. About 5 minutes riding time. I still suited up even though that took all of 5 minutes as well. I think I hit around 40mph.

You can rationalize jeans all day but one of those days you'll learn.

i have 2 pairs of riding jeans.
one has knee protections so I wear that one more.
i wear alpinestars pants when I do twisties. kevlar jeans only for regular putt putt.
i always wear my sidi boots.

My balls feel the same pain as your balls :|
I also don't commute as well.

Something we can both agree on!

I've been riding for over 33 years and you're better off not crashing at all than crashing in full gear. I've worked very hard over all of those years to develop my skills to avoid crashing. I'm much safer riding in flip-flops, shorts and a tank top than the most of BARF riders riding if full gear.

That said, I usually wear jeans with good knee/shin pads under, riding boots, leather jacket, helmet and armored gloves. Unless I'm out doing the twisties in which case it's full gear including back protector.

You forgot one:

Looking like king dousche of the BMW world: Aerostich

I have a few pairs of jeans I wear when I go on rides with the MC club im in since most of them dont wear full gear I like to fit in..But my jeans are hella baggy and I have pads that fit under them and I always have my boots and gloves and jacket that I wear on the track on.. the club vest goes over the jacket...

so you don't wear gear because people in your mc club don't and you want to fit in:wtf? Your choice whatever you decide to wear but that has got to be one of the stupidest reasons ever.

full gear always. Aerostitch pants when I want to go somewhere and not look like a space monkey.

I wrote the same reply but this thread is just like :deadhorse

I pretty much exclusively wear regular jeans with no armor. To date I've crashed 5 times at speeds over ~40mph on 4 different bikes (including a nice 100mph lowside) and my worst leg injury has been a little bit of rash about the size of a quarter on my knee.

Have I been lucky? Probably. Do I wear armored jacket, gloves, and boots? Yep. Have all three earned their keep? Absolutely. Do I feel the need to break out my leathers or wear significant leg protection when commuting through traffic or going over twice the speed limit in the twisties? Not really.

The reason I bothered to post is that when you go all "gear nazi" on the people that need to hear it the most, you often don't come off as responsible when you freak out and say jeans are worthless and that you must wear armor/textiles/leather, you come off as a pussy (with apologies to owners of such a device.) A little realism in examining the levels of importance of your various pieces of gear would go along way in convincing Sir Squidsalot that you might be worth listening to. :2cents

We prolly agree on alot more than we post about here on Barf...:ride
