anyone that rides up skyline 35, and 9 in jeans is flat out crazy.

and for those that say they cant afford leathers I am assuming you have a leather jacket already so your only talking about 250 bucks for leather pants. If you go down and you WILL go down sooner or later you will be thanking yourself you bought the leathers for 250. hell most places have closeouts on sale in stores or online for under 200 bucks.

you still tell me you cant afford leathers and im calling bs right now.

and if you have a family that you support or if you cant afford to miss work then you need to understand that a bad roadrash is gonna lay you up for a while.

there is no excuse for no leathers if you ride the twisties.

I personally always use full leathers and the best gloves and boots available to purchase. not because im rich but because ive personally seen a few crashes and ive personally seen many guys dump their bikes even in the last two years. happens every day up in the hills. i watched one guy launch his bike off an embankment like it was a bobsled. luckily he was uninjured and slid to a stop before hand.

there is only one time i will not wear full leathers. and this event only happens about once a year. maybe twice. It is when i ride with the girlfriend on the back. and thats normally to santa cruz. i will still wear my best helmet...gloves....leather jacket....back protector...and then i wear icon boots and icon kevlar pants... so i can walk around in capitola or whatnot.

girlfriend wears basically the same including back protector.

other than that if i am on my bike im MAX protected

I've been down in jeans on my skateboard and that wasn't over 15mph and it was nasty. I won't ever ride a motorcycle without leather and pads. Jeans offer zero protection and the 10 minutes it takes me to gear up fully could mean whether or not they amputate or not.

I always wear jeans

under my leather overpants :twofinger

with knee padding

and I'm about to get my JR/T-Pro back protector tomorrow.

Crashing scares me :( And I've done it too many times...

The textile jeans that I have (Joe Rocket Ballistic 5.0) have zippers all the way up the sides so they're really easy to put on and take off over your jeans. I just take them off when I park my bike and toss them in my backpack before heading into school. :thumbup

when I go to school and it is too hot to wear my textile pants. I wear jeans with knee armor underneath, I don't like it but I can't see myself sitting in class with race boots and leathers, getting a mean case of swamp ass.

98% of the time I'm in full gear--either the 'Stich or my leathers. Crap, I even keep the knee pucks on because I figure it can't hurt and I lost my last pair when I took them off.

...but lately I've been in this bad habit of riding around SF in just a pair of slacks, glove, and helmet. I'm usually on a quick errand and too lazy to gear up. I dropped the bike off at the shop the other day and came in wearing some sort of cropped pant, but I had my boots on--safety first (ish.) The guys were getting a real kick outta that, and they they called me a squid! :cry

I just bought a pair of joe rocket super ego pants on ebay. No more squidding it up to school :thumbup.

I have a pair of JR phoenix mesh overpants but I crashed in them and tore a big hole in the hip area :( I used to use them for short casual rides.

i was lucky, no doubt about it. granted i didnt slid across the pavement, but i def skidded or so. the damage to my ankle was proof lol... but i still think jeans > other types of non riding pants.

leathers are def the best, not debating that.

You can get a quality two piece leather suit for $425. Search for TILT leathers here on BARF.

I only wear jeans, and I have dark purple brused knees to prove it. O coarse I use mine as a commuter, and have nowhere to put them when I get to school, I know i should wear them though, especially since I went down hard a year ago, thank goodness I at least had an armered jacket, a must investment for every rider

after going down with just jeans and you still choose to ride in jeans. :wow doesn't make sense.

Get some overpants and stuff them in a plastic bag inside a backpack.

I used to wear mesh overpants over my jeans and when I folded them up they fit fine in my backpack. I have a normal sized backpack with a lot of zippers, I got the backpack at a walmart

You figured me out. Drat! Yes, I get $.0001 discount on my next set of TILT Custom Leathers each time I say TILT Custom Leathers online, or $.0002 if I say TILT Custom Leathers in person to a group of riders. I'm sorry I said TILT Custom Leathers too many times on this thread. I just got my TILT Custom Leathers and I really think they're great, so maybe I'm obsessing.

In general, I think mentioning a source for economical 'entry level' serious riding gear is appropriate on a thread about...... riding gear. A lot of people have not heard of TILT Custom Leathers and are riding in denim. TILT Custom Leathers can save lives and reduce injuries. People should know about TILT Custom Leathers. If you can't afford the highest quality leathers, you shouldn't be without. TILT Custom Leathers are a quality product.

I won't mention TILT Custom Leathers again for a while, I promise. I'll be out on a :ride all day, breaking in my TILT Custom Leathers.

:twofinger

Seriously, thanks for the kind reminder. I'm inherently a Gear Nazi and the 'I aint got the money' stuff is just incredible bovine effluent. There is an affordable alternative to riding naked or going broke. I'll try to remember though that in an open forum, I can just mention something once and subsequent readers will see that too. No need to overdo it. :rofl:rofl:rofl

lol, I wear a 58/32. I got quoted at Johnson's leathers in S.F. (who custom made my jacket for me) close to $450 for a pair of pants. Would I be over paying? (totally a loaded question lol)

From the searches I've done, not many manufacturers carry my size, and when I do find a pair, it fits wayyyyyyy funny (i.e. saggy in some parts, tight in others)

And I wear a cut down size 60 jacket.

Jeans 100% of the time.
