Wine Country Ablaze

Real Estate increase. Demand for housing is already short as it is, and there are no contractors around to even keep up with what's currently needed. The entire infrastructure will have to be rebuilt from the ground up, utilities, roadways. Then you have to rebuild the schools, private businesses and parks around the community.

Evacuations on downtown Sonoma.

Everything north of the square.

high winds + years of drought + end of summer and vegitation build up.

Not sure theres much to do.

What can we do to help prevent the spread of fires in the future? Or was this just a perfect shit storm?

really wet winter = abnormally grassy as well and now really dry

add decades of fire suppression ensuring an ample supply of fuel. fire is natural, in some ways this is nature just doing what it's supposed to even if it's determined to be arson.

I'm in North Napa. Fire is basically above Yountville and heading south towards Napa

Its been opened.

Anyone expect trump to drop by handing out paper towels?

My first joke... Was hoping he'd come by and throw some fire extinguishers.

Sonoma evacuation is a cluster fuck. They have closed 121 at 37 by Sears point so they can use both Lanes to evacuate traffic out of Sonoma.

Everything east of Napa river is being advised to prepare to evacuate as well.

Sorry Koi. I'm half a step behind you over in Fairfield and I'm coming to understand where you're at.

There's only one part of Fairfield under a voluntary evac and that's Eastridge, which is just south of Green Valley.

Upper and Lower Green valley are under mandatory evac, but those are county (as well as Suisun Valley, Rockville, Twin Sisters, Gordon Valley and Mankas). Those are all more rural farm and low density areas. Homes have been lost in upper Green Valley and on Twin Sisters, based on sheriff's department reports and scanner traffic.

All of Fairfield west of highway 80 is under an advisory. Could be told to go in short order, but nothing specific right now. You're talking 25-30k people in that zone - it would not be quick and easy and no idea where they'd all go.

I've been able to watch the Green Valley fire - smoke during the day and a glow at night, but tonight I can't. The winds are blowing towards us and the smoke is obscuring it. We've been getting ash rained on us periodically.

Fortunately, the expected high winds out of the north have not come. Its ordinary more windy here than it even is now. We are fortunate.

Honestly, like someone from Cobb said a page or two ago, I'm not sure I can go through this again. I've slept like 5 hours since Sunday and I'm really stressed out.

Scott

Sonoma...Calistoga.

This continues to be so screwed up and sad.

My Aunt and cousin bailed from Sonoma and are at Sears Point. :(

When we are so good at fighting fires we don't let them burn naturally, we get super fires...

Hey Scott,

That was me from Cobb. I am on edge so bad that it took all day, lots of tears, and a few arguments but we have a game plan. If the fire comes this way, I will evac out of here, while Peter, my husband, will stay and try to save our house. It kills me, but he is positive that he will not go through this again.

Just pray that the winds will calm down. I will be thinking of you and all other folks in harm's way.
