ZX14 or Hayabusa?

Good luck. Is this your first bike? If so, you will hopefully understand that both bikes are EXTREMELY powerful, that there are other large bikes less powerful, and that you might consider taking some lessons before you ride.

More marines die in motorcycle accidents after returning from Iraq than die in Iraq.

dude.. people are calling you troll because youre acting so stupid they think you cant be serious. (this is something nice) but just take a hint from that. were just tired of seeing "rider dead on hwy "xx"" headlines

I am new .... and am going to buy either the ZX14 or the Hayabusa. If you don't have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself.

Michael

Get which ever one looks the best to you. Both are so far beyond your skill level, it really doesn't matter. You wouldn't notice a difference.

This is not going to end well. :(

Yeah, in dead seriousness if your going to get either one no matter what. Just get what you think looks prettier or fits your body better.

a responsible dealer shouldn't sell you either bike. there are plenty of other bikes out there for you start off on. my buddy is 6'5" and 300lbs. he drove a POS suzuki around until he got comfortable, then got a katana 750. he rides it daily. do yourself/family/friends a favor and don't kill yourself yet.

if you want to learn right, not waste your money, time, and skin (on pavement) get this ninja 500. ive seen 200 pound guys ride 50's so dont even go there. id really recommend you take a hint from this giant close knit community of riders who know what they're talking about and just dont want to see another rider hurt or killed. just realize that youre talking about the 2 fastest production motorcycles sold today. did you get a mclaren f1 as your first car?

:laughing

Seriously though the bandit would be a better choice. Or just get some experience on a ex500, sell it and get the bandit. But if you are going to ignore the responses to your question (a bad idea) then the ZX14 face looks like a jumping spider and the hayabusa looks like an idiot cyclops alien.

I am new and do not know your lingo but thanks for the explanation. I physically cannot fit on smaller bikes, and am going to buy either the ZX14 or the Hayabusa. If you don't have anything nice to say, keep it to yourself.

Michael

Buy a dual sport. You will drop the hayabusa, you will drop the 14, you will cry and be angry about it, you'll swear off "those damn dangerous motorcycles" forever because you got in so far over your head you may as well be sitting at the bottom of the atlantic trench at the moment.

Allow me to give you a small example:

Have you ever accidentally dumped the clutch on a car? Well, on a hayabusa/zx14 that leads to this nice thing called a "power wheelie". Aformentioned power wheelie can happen in any of the first 5 gears. You may or may not be able to get it up in 6th. Probably could. Also, it's capable of running a quarter time of under 10 seconds with a good rider on it. Do you have the slightest fucking clue how fast that is? By the time your brain realized what was going on and your asshole started puckering, your head would be through the wall of a taco bell. Oh and remember, that your clutch is in your left hand on a motorcycle, not operated with your foot, and if you've ever had your hand slip off something in a moment of careless thought...

Just because you're 300 pounds doesn't mean fuck all on a motorcycle. A ninja 250 will still beat 90% of cars to 60 even with you on it. A GSX-R600 will beat anything you've ever seen running on the road.

You don't need a hayabusa or a zx14, you need a dual sport, some practice, and then you can consider if you're ready for a ZX14 or not. I've been riding for 3 years, 80k miles, and the idea of riding one of those bikes still makes me wince slightly. The idea of a new rider riding it scares the christ out of me.

If you're a legitimate new rider, this is a horrible idea. If you're a troll, go eat a dick ;)

There are lots of other physically large bikes that you could buy that do not have nearly 200hp and the ability to wad it into Hawaii if you forget where the brakes are on Highway 17.

Get a used Vstrom or something. It doesn't look as cool, but neither does riding a new Hayabusa into a hard object directly across the road from the dealer. You wouldn't be the first.

Troll? Why does it matter how I look? I'm a decent looking guy, but I am 6'4" and 290 lbs so I need a big bike. I sat on an GSXR600 and GSXR1000 and both are too small for me and the Hayabusa and the ZX14 both feel pretty good.

Michael

I too am a big guy and also happen to own a Hayabusa.

I would not recommend the 'busa as a first bike.

I would strongly recommend something like a DR 650 or any of the other electric start 650 dual sports. Here's why: they sit high and have plenty of room. They also are versatile enough to go just about anywhere while being light and flickable enough to take on sportbikes in the tight stuff. Also, for a new rider they have an important characteristic - they crash well, unlike the busa or the zx14.

If you still insist on getting a big bore street bike for your first machine (not a good idea) then consider a Bandit 1200, FZ1 or Vstrom 1000. If you are smart, you will get one of the 650s instead.

I'd like to express my condolences in advance because I might be busy with shit the day you go splat.

To make something perfectly clear...this guy is not exaggerating. Recently in the news some guy did lose control of his bike, and flew through a wall of a Taco bell. Went in the front of the restaurant, ended up completely dead in the parking lot behind it.

ok one more... just keep in mind, we (barf) have posted entire threads betting on how many weeks it will take before a new rider totals a bike with CONSIDERABLY LESS THAN HALF THE DISPLACEMENT OF EITHER OF THOSE. if 20 people telling you youre being an idiot makes absolutely no difference to you than youre toast. not one single person has been like "yeah thats an ok idea, you might actually not wrap or die"

edit: ive been riding for 3 years and im about to go sling my 200 lbs ass over my 400cc bike and go have a fucking blast on my commute to class. yeah i rime bitch

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum. I just got my M1 and am trying to decide between the Kawasaki ZX14 and the Suzuki Hayabusa. I am leaning towards the Hayabusa because it looks better but in terms of maintenance, dependability and performance, they're pretty evenly matched, right?

Michael

You need to get out more !

First step in choosing bike, is analyzing your mission profile and rider ability. Next...how much money do you have ?

What will you be using the bike for ? If you have many purposes in mind, assign a percentage to each. Be REALISTIC !

What is your ability/ experience ? If the answer is "not much" then you should find a competent rider, that you trust, to walk you through the rest of the bike selection process.

You will not get very many chances to learn by your mistakes.

you're going to die:|
no seriously............

my brother is 6'2" 260 pounds (not fat lookin)
and he loved his honda 600RR and that thing is not big
just look for a smaller engined bike that fits you better
GSXR1000....750:wtf
its probably the idea of other riders
pointing and laughing at your bike
that makes the bike uncomfortable
as if people are going to be like
that new rider is driving a bike he can
handle??!?:rofl

this isnt ike getting a mustang or corvette
when you first learn to drive, I found my 650R
has pleeeeenty of power to go fast and kill me quick

try looking into the dual sports that others have mentioned... if a "sportbike" look is what you're mainly after, manufacturers make larger lower displacement models. suzuki makes the sv650, kawaski makes a zzr600, honda makes the vfr and yamaha has the fz series of motorcycles. none of those a "great" first or "beginner" bikes, but much better choices than either the hayabusa or zx-14, IMO.

...

This guy is correct on offering a dual-sport bike , if you want a BIG bike. I'm also nearly as tall as you (msteinberg) , but I remember trying get on a real dual-purpose bike once and it was ridiculously high, nearly unmountable ;)

Also, BMWs usually tend to be humongously big bikes.

Get the 'busa. It's also faster if you ride with no gear - less weight to carry around.
