3rd row SUV choices?

Update.

We've decided on the XC90. About $15K more than what we wanted to spend, but after watching all the reviews and reading about the car - It seems well worth it, and I am happy with the decision.

In the process of moving, so we'll buy it in a few weeks.

If anybody can recommend a good Volvo dealer, i'm all ears. No BS a must, I am very well versed in buying new cars, so I can be somewhat indimidating.

Those look cool. I'd call dibs when you are ready to sell but even slightly used in a year or two it will be out of my price range.

Does that open a door for Honda to change your mind? Because the 2017 Acura MDX debuts at the NY auto show on the 23rd.

probably not.. The XC90 does everything we want and with all the tech we want. (autonomous driving under 30mph) pano roof, LCD gauges, very little actual buttons on the dash, and a nice little efficient motor that's both turbocharged, and supercharged.

But honestly - we watched a bunch of safety videos and the Volvo is un-beatable in that category.

i'm not sure how well Volvo's hold their value, but say we spend 60K, in a year, it may be worth 50.

Volvo's don't hold value well, unfortunately. First model years always do better, however.

+1 for the XC90. it feels smallish but the two seats in the back are not right up against the rear glass like many smaller 3 row SUVs. We may get another when it's time to replace this one (2005 with around 100K)

Can we all take a moment to appreciate how ugly this is.
Shocking...
It's like a bloated marshmallow with an aquatic theme.

Agreed... it's based on the Patrol that they sell in other parts of the world which doesn't look nearly as bad. I think it will also be the new Armada when it comes out here.

Wow. Agreed.
Still not a looker though.
I don't know why but for some reason Infinity doesn't look half as good as the Nissan stuff across the board

Nissan has really gone down hill in the style department. While I like what Carlo's has done with the company, they need to move away from the funky styling.

IMO the new XC90 looks awesome.

I spent a month in the UAE and the Patrols are EVERYWHERE. But they do not look like the one pictured here. They're actually quite good looking in person.

Check the interior. Sat in one a couple weeks ago and was blown away. I've been in 2015 MBenz's and BMWs that didn't feel as nice.

The Chinese are finally sending us a vehicle we really want. Ford was a disaster with PAG/ Volvo.

Nice choice on the XC90. Sat in one the same as the blue one pictured on page 6 at the SF auto show.
I have no interest in SUVs just yet, but that car really stood out from the crowd. The interior is so stylish, nothing else even compares. The exterior is almost as good as the exterior.
It got a rave review in a Car and Drivers comparo with against the more expensive germans/brits too.
The longevity of the supercharged/turbocharged motor is a little worrying though.
Good luck with it!

I think the stock '16 Escalade is the epitome of gauche, however Tastefully blacked out it can be pretty stately...

I kind of wish Buick could bridge the gap between Chevy and Cadillac.
However they only seem to turn out rental car fodder. Meh

GMC styling has picked up which is nice.

If Lincoln can turn out a Continental without the chrome I'm a fan.

I'll disagree with you on that, there was a noticeable improvement in quality of the cars in electronics, switches, and build quality when Ford bought in. Volvo was close to destroying itself with the switch from RWD to FWD, the 850's had electrical gremlins, transmission issues, quality suffered because of the cheaper parts Volvo was buying as a stand alone car company in the 90's, and the mid 90's 960's/S or V90's are cars I would stay a million miles away from rather than try drive a million miles in like the guy with the red P1800. Ford really provided the them with the ability to expand their product line to the cross-overs, which they needed to do.

It's taken a while with Geely to find their footing, that's why the previous generation XC90 was sold for as long as it was, but the stuff they're doing now is pretty cool. The new S90 is gonna be big seller, IMO, and the redesigns of of the S60, XC60, and the possibility of the S & V 40 coming to the US should help attract new customers...

Ford did nothing but good with the companies in the PAG. They especially rescued Jaguar and Aston-Martin.

But PAG was a complete disaster in terms of global platform costs lowering, etc..and they never were able to merge the PAG portfolio cars into their existing business. More what I was thinking.

Oh it was a shitty deal for Ford. But for Jaguar and A-M, who were kind of circling the drain at the time, it was a tremendous shot in the arm.

Kinda also like how Chrysler totally got the better end of the deal when Daimler bought them. They got a lot of new platforms (some still in play today) and some engines to replace their old stalwart ones. In return, Daimler wound up selling them off for a fraction what they paid for them after really farming nothing out of them.

Chances of wagons this size coming back? I learned to drive on this bad boy. The rear facing seats were dope! My research shows it's not illegal either, just not car companies really make them anymore.
