AFM make up race weekend choices

The other thing that sucks is that both dates are so close to other dates, that I may not be able to financially afford it. I wonder how this may affect the turnout, as I am sure others will have the same issue.

I wonder if we may be better off accepting the one-time loss rather than creating another loss.

+1. If the added race is double points, I may just skip one of the regularly
scheduled races and collect my double points with a single race entry fee.

just a reminder, and spread the word.

if you got access, go to the AFM site and vote on the weekend of your choice, or that you won't make it. :)

Done :) Second Z and Scott, double points is BS.

I don't post often, so you know this bothers me.

I am glad the AFM is worried about not letting their pocket books be damaged. The real issue is that this was never brought up at the track when we were all standing in the rain. They could have at least mentioned this.

There is a cost just to show up and not race. So 1.5 rounds have been rained out and we all ate the cost to get there. I don't remember a refund for a shortened Saturday practice at BWillow, so there is my donation. What's to stop racers from just racing this new round and skipping the others? 2 for the price of 1 and you finish in the same points position at the end of the year.

Several people have already pointed out the $ factor of showing up, the time off factor, how close the races will be, conflicting races, and double points. Some of us have sponsors who expect us to make each round. Congrats to the AFM for spending my money for me.

If you squeeze the riders too hard they may just go broke. Then you loose future business. How many of the board members want to sponsor my makeup race? I am willing to take donations in the form of tires, 08-11 R6 race parts, fuel, food/hotel for my crew, oil change on my truck (15.5 qts of deisel synthetic and motorcraft filtlers only please), or money orders? Sorry credit cards not accepted, unless you want to pay my vendors directly. :teeth

My husband is a little negative nelly about this, but I am sure he is not alone.

Here is hopefully some constructive feedback... which I will post on the AFM Forum once I am granted access. :teeth

1. Racers that showed up at Round 1 at BW and Round 4 at THill endured expenses in the way of fuel, hotels, food, practice at BW, gate fees, etc. to be there. While we saved on entry fees and tires, we still had significant costs and gave up our weekends to be there, fully knowing we may be rained out.

2. Many racers cannot take off the extra time to add another race.

3. Many of us (well at least me, as you've seen in my previous posts) have very detailed budgets that allow me to make the scheduled races, throwing in another race round forces me to make a choice between something else (which may be another AFM weekend or cutting the number of classes I race) to make the race weekend. Which by the way doesn't put the AFM ahead, in fact it would hurt them more.

4. These dates are very close to other AFM races and will put us under a time constraint anyway you look at it.

5. Only about the top 5-10 of each class care about the points. A double points race is a bad idea. Like I sarcastically pointed out in my post above, people may be inclined to skip another round and just go to the double points round. Plus, missing a round really hurts anyone trying for overall points anyway.

6. It is not clear what will be run at this added round. The only class I care about for points is AFemme, which is chapter optional. If it is not being run, I likely would not attend this added round for the reasons noted above. And are we talking about this added weekend making up BW Round 1 missed classes AND Round 4? All missed classes or only Sunday classes?

I am all for helping my club, but this is a big, last minute burden to put onto the dedicated AFM racers (which will be the only ones that show up.)

***What if there was an AFM Fund Raiser instead of a make-up round?***
How much net profit per racer does the club expect to generate from this added round, $150/person? More? Less? Personally, I'd rather donate the net profit instead of adding another round that will cost me $700-$800 between travel, lodging, food, entry fees, the tracks gate fees, tires and so on...

I don't want the club to suffer, and I am confident the general membership feels the same, but passing along the burden to the racers without adequate time to plan isn't exactly fair.

I retract all former statements made before, expect the sponsor thing. I could always use a good sponsor. I like her idea.

Bring on Buttonwillow in August!!!!!!

yep. double points, single points, I'm gonna try and make it. just want to race. regardless I'll sign up for all races thru the rest of the year. if I can't make the weekend, I'll pass on my race fees to the benevolent fund or the air fence fund.

that is something I'm willing to commit to, and can do to support my club. AFM.

Kaz, lets chat. :teeth

I'd like to add, that anyone who didn't show up to Round 1 or Round 4 benefits most from this as they did not incur the personal expenses of getting to those rounds. So if someone decided it wasn't worth risking the rain, now they can show up in Aug or Sept AND collect double points. BS!

seeing as how I'm not in any running for any points chase, the double points doesn't affect me.

in all fairness, though, for those that are in the race for points, I say make them normal points. double points, for them would be unfair.

It's just not an issue for me at the moment. :dunno

and I would have shown up to this last one, except, I do know the current rule for rain. :)

Yep, if we start doing make ups you can bet the turn out for "might rain" days will begin to reduce, as people would hedge their bets for a make up round in better weather (and maybe even double points) . These make-ups have some possible bad long term effects ...

I didn't go to 1 or 4, and I still won't go to a double-point #8 either. I would if I could, but as I said, I can't justify Buttonwillow (even though I am in the points) and Thill is to short of notice....

would you be more willing to support these make up races if they were for normal points?

maybe with doing a make up race weekend (bringing us to 8 weekends this year), they'll figure adding a BW round, really isn't what is hurting racers during this "economic crunch". :teeth and we'll gain a race weekend? :dunno

edit: for your portion above on "might rain" days, and people not showing up because of it, don't you think that if there was a chance to race on a wet track, within safe methods like many other clubs do of course, that many racers wouldn't hesitate to show up to a future "might rain" day?

I know I'd show up without hesitating. :)
