My husband is a little negative nelly about this, but I am sure he is not alone.
Here is hopefully some constructive feedback... which I will post on the AFM Forum once I am granted access.
1. Racers that showed up at Round 1 at BW and Round 4 at THill endured expenses in the way of fuel, hotels, food, practice at BW, gate fees, etc. to be there. While we saved on entry fees and tires, we still had significant costs and gave up our weekends to be there, fully knowing we may be rained out.
2. Many racers cannot take off the extra time to add another race.
3. Many of us (well at least me, as you've seen in my previous posts) have very detailed budgets that allow me to make the scheduled races, throwing in another race round forces me to make a choice between something else (which may be another AFM weekend or cutting the number of classes I race) to make the race weekend. Which by the way doesn't put the AFM ahead, in fact it would hurt them more.
4. These dates are very close to other AFM races and will put us under a time constraint anyway you look at it.
5. Only about the top 5-10 of each class care about the points. A double points race is a bad idea. Like I sarcastically pointed out in my post above, people may be inclined to skip another round and just go to the double points round. Plus, missing a round really hurts anyone trying for overall points anyway.
6. It is not clear what will be run at this added round. The only class I care about for points is AFemme, which is chapter optional. If it is not being run, I likely would not attend this added round for the reasons noted above. And are we talking about this added weekend making up BW Round 1 missed classes AND Round 4? All missed classes or only Sunday classes?
I am all for helping my club, but this is a big, last minute burden to put onto the dedicated AFM racers (which will be the only ones that show up.)
***What if there was an AFM Fund Raiser instead of a make-up round?***
How much net profit per racer does the club expect to generate from this added round, $150/person? More? Less? Personally, I'd rather donate the net profit instead of adding another round that will cost me $700-$800 between travel, lodging, food, entry fees, the tracks gate fees, tires and so on...
I don't want the club to suffer, and I am confident the general membership feels the same, but passing along the burden to the racers without adequate time to plan isn't exactly fair.
