AFM make up race weekend choices

Whats the magic number with an afm weekend? 20K 30k 40k????? What is the actual cost that will determine a loser weekend? Lets say BW. What will the total cost be? 20K? that means 100 racers at $200 a piece would break even? I like simple numbers.. lol.. anyone know?

i find it funny how some clubs "hide" these numbers. why? Its a non profit right?

WMRRA does the same, they WONT share with their own members, its wrong IMO (i think illegal too) this not only hurts club but makes for a lot of angry/pissed off members..not something you want in these times.

OMRRA opens them up...it REALLY helped them too! The members then as a whole looked at some of the figures and saw where we as a club could afford to cut some things and where somethings could not be. The club is now 1000x's better than it was a few years ago and doing good. When you do, you may find some help where they may not have known help was needed. Like if they saw someone was outsourcing say a simple computer job for $xx then we had a member or two step up "hey that's simple, i can do that for free for the club" and so on. It really happened.

Personally i don't know if AFM lets numbers out but they should. Why hide shit? its not a business or someone persons income, its the clubs and the club is made up of ALL its members.\

I do know your tracks are RIDICULOUSLY expensive. Up here the tracks in Oregon/Washington have worked with the clubs and trackday providers to help them out cause without us..there is no tracks!

I think so. CJ gave me his username and password but it did not work. Is it diffent from when he registers for the races?

I'm here to race, double points cheats me from racing. I dont want to pay for that. If there are guys who only want to race 5 or 6 races a year, go to a different club.:twofinger

lots of good points for both sides here..
I do think an e-mail should have been sent out to notify people of the poll since this is a last minute type decision. I only happened to stumble upon this thread by accident today and I know not everyone is checking BARF/ AFM forums often enough to catch this.

Per Buttonwillows website, I believe it is $10,000 per day for the track rental. Add workers, Barb, amber-lamps, etc, you're in the $30,000 - $40,000 range.

I think 100 riders with practice and 2 races comes out to $250 ($125+$125). Thats only $25,000. While 150 riders is $37,500.

I don't think 150 will show up......

before you go nuts on numbers bro, be sure you have the right numbers. You're throwing out 30 and 40k without a true hard number. without a "true" number directly from the AFM on what it cost them to go to buttonwillow...either overall number, or individual expense numbers....^^^ that's just a downer to discourage people.

10k for race track rental. You're telling me that AFM has not made a deal for a less than normal track rental fee? we go there 2 times a year, well used to, but we have gone to BW a lot, I doubt we pay the full rental price.

hell, last number thrown out on how much it costs the AFM to rent BW was $4,900 for the track, about $300 for ambulance (4 hour minimum), assume 20 hour total weekend, and insurance, last number was $3000 per day. but I have the total figure for the year that AFM has paid for insurance in the last few years.

:confused so, which one is it.....before we do the "sky is falling" again, AFM members should start requesting a true accounting of the costs and expenses of the AFM.

I honestly think AFM has dropped the ball in many ways. First, if it's such a "money maker" and necessity for the AFM to stay afloat, how come a mass email to the AFM membership to vote for another race weekend was not sent out asap. failure. how come it still hasn't gone out? :dunno

second, quit hiding costs AFM. you are only making it worse. how much total, was spent out of the AFM coffers to pay for an BW weekend? anyone know that? cause it seems AFM is going on the assumption that they will make money.

either way, I'm gonna try and race.

Ducky, not sure where you looked vs. where I looked, but this is what I found on the website.

I'm preety sure this has been brought up before, but when i first started racing the grids were over flowing. Shit I can recall races were the row behind me was told to leave the track because their were too many riders on the track. All those years of making a ton of money, where has it all gone? AIRFENCE, give me a break. As for this last round that was rained out, why didn't the AFM Cancel it? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out it's gonna rain when all sources indicate THUNDER STORMS through out the weekend. It would have saved everyone time and money.

I'm preety sure those rates are good but for an organization like AFM thats gonna rent every single year sometimes even twice a year, you expect them to have a better price. If not the afm need to handle business a little better.

Oscar,

The club was on the hook for the track rent at T-hill. WE signed a contract saying that we would pay for those days, so canceling the event or not, the rent was due. Some peripheral costs may have been lower, but you're talking about a small percentage when compared to the track rent.

The AFM doesn't get price breaks on the rent. The track can just go rent the day to someone else. Renting the track for 1 weekend a year doesn't give bargaining power.
