Did you say AR?

The kid is 14, I'm not gonna throw down three bills on some hella realistic 1911 clone or something. I'd like something close to the weight of a real pistol, preferably black, but that might freak out mom. I was thinking since I just got a Sig Pro, I could find him a Sig Pro as well, so we could match :p

Those cheapo spring airsofts can be hit or miss.

I bought a P99 from Big5 for like $20, its held up very well, and even has Hop-Up. Its great fun for drunken gunfights.

My friend bought a pair of berettas. Everytime you cocked them, the barrel bent upwards, and they quickly broke. They didn't have Hop-Up either. They were cheap as shit.

So, it might be that whatever brand Big5 uses is better than the crap on ebay. Use your discount! Also, try to get one with the hopup.

I discovered the funniest thing one day walking into my friend's place in the middle of a fight. When you have leathers and a helmet on, you are the Terminator of airsoft!

when we get the rifle range day all arranged Angel, there will be at least on AR there, so plenty of opportunity to try one out.

Have you guys seen the new california legal AR lowers? :laughing
They filled in the bottom of the mag well, and put the mag spring and follower internal. You have to break the rifle apart to reload!
:laughing

Very nice. :teeth

Ok, Barf Militia boys and girls, time to entertain some Noob questions: :laughing

What's a kind of prices do you pay for your .40SW/9mm/45ACP ammo?

Just normal stuff for target practice, not self defense.

I ask because ammo cost is going to be a big factor in my purchase. Obviously you can put more 9mm bullets downrange than .45, but there are so many factors. Brand seems to play a HUGE part in how much the ammo costs. Also the retailer and quantity.

I was just hoping you could throw out some realistic prices for these calibers. After a little googling, I've seen prices vary greatly.

I try not to pay more than about $10 per box of practice ammo. As you've noticed, 9mm is the cheapest, then .40, then .45. .38 special costs about the same as .40, and .357 is about the same price as .45 ACP.

So, I'll search around and by cheapo boxes of .38 for around $8 or $9, and .45 for around $11. Walmart now has bulk boxes of Winchester white box, 100 rounds for $12.

If you want cheap, though, go with a .22 LR. You'll never regret having one!

They supposedly had that on display at the Reno show. At least that's what atek3 told me. Never could find the damn thing, I wanted to check it out too.

I guess I should have also asked how many boxes you folks go through in a month. Obviously that varies from person to person, but...

The way I see it, the ammo if .45 ammo is $3 cheaper per box, is it really going to break the bank?

5 boxes/month * $3 = $15

Annualize that and it's almost $200/year more. Hmm..

I wonder if that should stop me from getting the gun want, or eventually buying it down the road anyway.

A guy makes them down in San Jose. I ran into him one night at Coyote Point. The thing was accurate as hell, and for a lot of people, a breach loader AR beats not having one at all!

No kidding, huh? San Jose? The ones I saw looked kinda cheese & came from back east somewhere.
For me, part of the appeal of the AR is having a magazine. Of course, thats another reason why I keep staring at the M1A. I dunno what rifle I'm gonna end up buying.

How much you use varries by everyone. I only go shooting about once a month, but will probably go through 200 rounds of each caliber at that time.

9mm is way cheap at walmart. I'll just buy it by the case in the value packs. The winchester value packs are pretty clean shooting and relatively accurate. Case is 110 plus tax.

I also get the 40s&w value packs for 16 bucks a pop. I buy it all up whenever I see it cause it goes pretty quick. Works out to be 160 a case which is about as good as you are going to get.

Their .45 value packs are 20 bucks each, so I buy cases of Fiocchi at Traders for 189 per case. I like the ammo, it is accurate and cleaner than the winchester .45. I've tried the Remmington UMC value packs but my Kimbers don't seem to like it.

If you are just starting go ahead and get a 9 and throw a bunch of lead down range. You'll move onto the other calibers in due time.

Man, guns can be very addicting once the habit starts.

+1

And they start to take up a lot of space in the house, too. Guns, ammo, jammed in every nook of the house!
