BARF Militia

After giving it some thought and really digging the Sig, I decided having a 1911 was more important. I'm looking at full size for range shooting and showing off lol. Price is somewhat a factor, but with SSE going away, I figured I better buy a nicer one now before I can't.

I'm specifically looking for a stainless color version. I narrowed it down to Dan Wesson Valor, Les Baer Custom Carry, and Ed Brown Special Forces. Each one seems to be about $500 more than the previous. Every camp seems to have their own cheer squad. Besides name brand, is there a reason to spend more for one than the other?

You can pick up a good 1911 that's on the roster so I don't really see a rush for that but to each their own. Remember the clock is ticking so I wouldn't wait. Call them all and find out what the wait list is. That should be one of your determining factors. Just because it's on the website doesn't mean you can get it this year or even next. Some dealers may stop taking SSE orders by Nov. because there will we a rush and conversion kit availability may be limited. I haven't used him but this dealer has been recommended to me for Baer. http://www.proload.com/ I was told he keeps lot's of stock.

I picked up a stainless Loaded new for $750 and then hand picked and replaced everything except the slide, barrel, frame and grip safety so future upgrades are always an option with 1911's. Personally I like changing things on my firearms so that worked well for me.

Most of Ed Brown and Les Baer's are falling off before the end of the year. Any word if they'll renew?

Will need to make some calls on Tuesday. DW seems readily available. Thanks for the link, I will have to check it out.

TRP is not hard to find but it has been awhile since I've seen one in the silver finish. It's an excellent firearm. Especially if you want front strap checkering. My one biggest regret.

I don't believe the railed operator version ever came in stainless. I could be wrong but "operators" don't want reflective finishes.
:)

I have no idea if they will renew and even they may not know yet what with all the BS laws that could negatively impact sales. It can't hurt to call and ask.

I'd treat it like a AR, get the frame with the serial no. first, build it later into a high end 1911

For those that aren't following, sb53 is dead! We won!

Without being too much of a barfsmartarse (cos that shit is really getting on my tits nowadays, we need to delete the sink), I wouldn't celebrate. AB1014 afaik is sitting on moonbeams desk right now. If they can't get your guns by violating your 2nd amendment, they'll get them by violating your 4th&5th. :mad

I remember another society, not too long ago, where neighbors were encouraged, for the benefit of the greater good, to 'snitch' on each other. I remember asking my parents as a child (i grew up in western europe, born 68) why people would do that. The best answer they could give me was fear for themselves.

I am not encouraged for the future.

Hmm does anyone do that?

Serious competition shooters do it.

I don't know what's involved in getting them in Ca. There are no frames on the Ca. roster and there is a safe handling check required on all hand gun purchases including SSE's which can't be done with just a frame. Maybe with a frame and slide though.

Roman, how would one go about getting a frame or frame and slide kit for a 1911?

Also remember that 1911's are not like AR lego builds. Nearly everything has to be hand fit. It's a great experience if you enjoy such projects. If you just like to go shoot it's probably not for you. I didn't do a full build myself. Just rebuilt a brand new gun until I was happy with it.

I have a crazy neighbor who would do just such a thing. We live in a canyon and sound echos. Every so often someone shoots a few rounds of .22 off so she accuses us off shooting off guns "all the time" and says her grand kids aren't safe playing in the yard. She believes in chem trails too. Her own daughter thinks she's a conspiracy theory nutter that shouldn't have a computer.

I stopped by Roman's shop today and ended up buying a 10/22 takedown in stainless. He gave me the right price and I've heard great things about them. I don't otherwise have a semiauto 22LR rifle.

Right below it was a 10/22 with a Mannlicher stock. It's drop dead sexy IMO, but I wanted stainless (it was blued, which looks nicer but I hate rust) and I wanted takedown. Hell, it was even a little cheaper, but I wanted the takedown.

I'd like to find a 10/22 Mannlicher stock and try to get it to work with the rifle that's waiting for me in jail right now. I understand that it may require some work to do, and it won't be a takedown with that stock on, but I'm willing to deal with that if I can find a stock for a reasonable price. Any suggestions on where to look?

And the sexiness:

Anyone need some 45ACP defensive ammo? I bought a case of Federal P45HST1 230gr +P JHP from Diezel here, but my Ruger P345 doesn't seem to like it.

I'd like to swap 1:1 for some other good 45 (standard pressure), if nobody wants to do that I might be open to sell it.

Got an SV Infinity Enhanced Ergonomics grip (with all the accoutrements in stainless) for my STI so it would feel like a CZ-75. Fifty-three ounces and change unloaded.
