BARF Militia

I stopped by Roman's shop today and ended up buying a 10/22 takedown in stainless. He gave me the right price and I've heard great things about them. I don't otherwise have a semiauto 22LR rifle.

Right below it was a 10/22 with a Mannlicher stock. It's drop dead sexy IMO, but I wanted stainless (it was blued, which looks nicer but I hate rust) and I wanted takedown. Hell, it was even a little cheaper, but I wanted the takedown.

I'd like to find a 10/22 Mannlicher stock and try to get it to work with the rifle that's waiting for me in jail right now. I understand that it may require some work to do, and it won't be a takedown with that stock on, but I'm willing to deal with that if I can find a stock for a reasonable price. Any suggestions on where to look?

And the sexiness:

You should get the Manny stock and cut it into a breakdown stock. Check Rimfire Central as several people have done this with different stocks. Haven't seen one done to that stock but it should be possible.

how hard is it to remove anodizing and parkerizing?

I'm starting an 80% next weekend. It has a dull black anodizing that has some marks from handling.

When I get an upper receiver, (probably parkerized) I want to strip that down to bare metal as well

the goal is to get both pieces brass plated, so they can be shined up like a Henry golden boy.

Bead blasting presents no problem for any finish I've ever seen with the exception of some chromes.

I didn't think you could parkerize aluminum, I imagine the upper is anodized. Don't know about the brass coating.

Mag Tactical has a great deal on a 3 pack of lowers right now. Apparently they have ~30,000 of them in the warehouse and need to move them. They claim this is cheaper than distributor pricing.

Is there a good Bay Area FFL that would transfer 3 of them for a reasonable price? Not that I really need more lowers, but for the price I might have to buy a set.

Parkerizing is for steel, by chemical process.
Strong oven cleaner can remove anodizing.

cool. I found one that recommended drain cleaner but I think they have the same active ingredient.

anyone around here doing metal plating? It seems to get a real shiny brass finish, I'd probably need to get nickel plated down first then brass to color it?

I don't know anything about brass plating, but in the case of chrome plating it's usually done in 3 layers: copper, nickel, chrome.

The problem with coating it is that it adds significant thickness (think paint). You need to make sure you don't end up with the coating in places that have critical dimensions (pin holes, threaded areas).

I got lowers for $50 from Palmetto around Thanksgiving black friday last year. THAT was a deal! This one isn't bad, but those don't look like anything special unless you want FDE'd lowers.

PS - I am an idiot and finally got around to reading the CA approved handgun list. The USP and the CZ75 01 are on the list! No need to SSE.. Do need to get a S&W22 and a Walther before it's too late though. Can I have an AK pistol with 10 shots after, too?

Have you wondered at all, why they "apparently have 30,000 of them in a warehouse and need to move them".

:rofl
