I didn't read the entire thing, but it's clear that this is coming down to the definition of "manufacture", how much the person must do themselves, with how much guidance, on who's equipment, etc.

Once they can show that these folks weren't manufacturing their own lowers, then everything else cascades from there.

+1 on the Hello Kitty AR-15, though.

I posted on CG bout this today. Too many theories. I feel it's legal since I'm not building to sell and in my mind not manufacturing. Who knows though. With that polymer80 glock kit, one can make a glock for $800 it seems and thats with a decent gen 3 glock 35 slide.

I think that polymer80 has polymer rails though, I dont like that. I read someone has a kit to replace it with a steel slide rail like glocks current have.

edit: It either comes with a steel locking block (rails) or one can be installed after milling.

I slogged through the whole thing, it's pretty cut and dry IMO. Their asses are going to jail. They were obviously manufacturing with the intent to sell/distribute, and yea they were tap-dancing around it by having the recipient drill a few holes themselves, but eventually they get to the point where they're transferring batches of 20 ARs (SBRs) to prohibited persons.

What I found eye-opening was the ATF's way of using CIs and UCs. As soon as they heard a name or a shop that was "manufacturing" they automatically sent the CIs and UCs shopping there.

That's the way I looked at it, seems like it's all pretty straightforward. Whatever nuance was happening up front descended in to full boat madness reasonably quickly.

I don't know today what the criteria is now for "manufacturing", so maybe some clarity about that will come out of this.

I don't have any issues with the use of CIs and UCs. I think it's clever of them using a felon to transfer too, one that even told these guys he was a felon. Why use a fake felon when you have a real one handy.

Looks like a good, solid case to me.

I made a decision that may be stupid, but at least it may be fun stupid. I now have a 300 Blackout 8.5" pistol. I do have the fancy muzzle device to go on. This is going to be really great or really terrible for deer at 50 yards.

John Noveske's deer gun was a 300AAC SBR with a can.

I'll see if I still have a picture of it that I took at his funeral. :(

I built one with a cmmg 8.5" barrel and it was 4-6" at 50 yards and that was with my own reloads. I'm not a great shot either.

What's your barrel? Cmmg I guess run tight. I had to send it back to get reamed again. A bunch of cast and coated 30 cal bullets were getting stuck.

I don't know the brand off my head. It's what they sell at the local shop. The forend is one of the Colt tubes that CDNN had for $50. It fits the can nicely.
I haven't decided if I'd rather spend $200 on ammo or putting a stock to my shoulder.

Stock all the way....... I am just waiting for funds to SBR two stripped lowers before the rules change.

Gotta get a clavicle breaking 45-70 at some point!
I'd been looking for a large caliber leveler gun and got the Marlin Classic Model 1895. I shot the first 40 rounds of 45-70 and confirmed it would need a few things: new follower, action & trigger jobs, Skinner Sights, and I'm going to have the magazine lengthen to fit 6 rounds. I did fairly good with the buckhorn sights, but I think peep sights, with aperture options, would suite me better. Now I just need to settle on the right place to have the heavy lifting done...

Congrats on the 45-70. I shot my friends level action Marlin in 45-70. After almost kissing the scope I shot a few more rounds and said no thanks. I like my shoulder parts right where they are........

Seriously? That sucks. I have an 8.5" 300BLK barrel from CMMG too. I'm waiting on a handguard before it goes off to cerakoting.

Put together a blow-out kit for the range.

I always had some IBDs, QuickClot, and a CAT tourniquet in the range bag along with booboo kit but decided to expand the kit last month. Ended up buying a Voodoo Tactical M3 bag since it was on sale. This will mainly be living inside my truck, so it's readily available from home/work/wherever I may be. Plan on bringing it with me to range duty nights and have it prominently displayed.
