BARF Militia

Long time no see, BARF militia.

I had somebody build me a new pistol last year:

I put together a new pistol a few weeks ago:

The former mostly works and the latter mostly doesn't work. :(

How many AR mags do you have? If you were to have a blackout and 22/556 AR with plans on building more, how many AR mags would be enough for you?

I'd have to count, but I have around 30 mags for my ARs. We have two in 5.56, a 300 Blackout, and a Grendel. The Grendel mags are obviously different. I use GI mags for the 5.56, and PMags for the 300.

My personal rule is that for each rifle/caliber platform that is to be SHTF-ready, I'd have enough magazines (fully-loaded) to load the plate-carrier/LBE I intend to use with it, and at least that much again in reserve (unloaded). Then whenever I remember to, I cycle the two sets between loaded/unloaded states.

I'm thinking of selling my 1919A4 to fund the purchase of another bike. It's a really clean Izzy kit built by John McGuire on a Dixon Machine side plate. I've got a set of spade grips, tripod, pintle, T&E, and about 350 rounds of German DAG 7.62 ammo with 130ish links. If anyone knows of someone in the market for a sweet belt fed gun, this is a great shooter.

Why do you cycle it? Load/unload the springs?

Also, curious about 3 gun competitions. I know there are several here who participate. Can someone provide more detail about them? Locations, websites, what to expect, where to start?

Take up pistol competition first, it's complicated enough. I can't stand the yahoos who dive in the deep end of the pool of 3 gun with no competition experience.

Most places won't let you run a 3-gun without proof of prior pistol competitions. Apparently drawing from a holster can be dangerous. Especially for those Glock guys. :laughing I'm going to get back into USPSA. It's been about 2 years since I did my last one. They're a ton of fun.

Ducky, Richmond has 3 gun classes.

Monthly Multi-Gun Practice
First Saturday of each month (usually) on bay 4. This will be a multi-gun practice stage featuring long guns only. Both long guns can be used, or just one, your choice. Round count will be approximately 24 for each long gun.
Multi-Gun Competitor Requirements
To compete in any RRGC Multi-Gun Match (BARC, CASC, Long Gun (rifle/shtgun) or IDPA) a competitor must meet at least one of the following requirements. There are no exceptions.
Safe Multi-Gun Competitor Class
Starting in January 2012 this class will be held on the 2nd Saturday of each month. This class will take approximately 6 hours to complete and will run you through everything you will need to know to compete in USPSA or IMG style multi-gun matches and safety certify you for Multi-Gun competition at RRGC.

How do they handle magazine changes on the rifles in the matches? Everyone runs around with an extra cartridge in their pocket? Or are folks 3-gunning with Mini-14's. I assume the stages are set up for 10 round magazines?

Is this classroom setting? Considering doing it on the upcoming weekend, wondering if the weather will be an issue.

Richmond gets VERY wet. I seem to remember a couple of years ago matches getting cancelled because the stages had 6 inches of standing water. I'd definitely call ahead.
