BARF Militia

yeah, you simply can not ccw a gun that heavy and big in shorts and t-shirt and be active (ie, running, biking, etc). I guess i feel a full size is overkill for a ccw.

having a ccw doesnt mean you have to carry on your person. for a larger framed pistol like that, i would probably only carry it in my backpack when concealment is going to be tough.

my beretta is similar size as a 1911, but it makes zero sense to carry it when my glock43 is like 3x smaller and is the same caliber. i just wanted something that is .45 on my ccw

all that makes sense except for the backpack part. what scenario would you imagine that you would need

1. a full size .45
2. have enough time to get the .45 out of the backpack for a defensive situation and still be effective

i would probably carry a .45 if i were going mountain biking & camping in an area with mountain lions or bears, although, concealment isnt really a huge issue out in the wilderness, crashing your bike and dropping your firearm is.

That was the start for me. I like solo hunts in remote areas and a key to harvesting a critter is scouting in the off season. I like the idea of a heavy caliber and the 1911 with .45ACP was a nice blend of large (not too large) a gun/caliber and reliable. I carry it hunting (especially overnights), and camping, scouting, etc.

For CCW a 1911 has never been an issue for me - I went into fed service when the M9 was beginning its reign. But my dad, a Cav officer, never liked the 1911. He got shot in the left hand (lost a knuckle in his pinky) on his first Viet Nam tour and could not address an issue with his 1911 with one hand. So he carried a .38 as back-up thereafter. But all his Sgts had 1911s - so I learned to shoot one as a youngster (my older brother and I could field strip an M16 when I was 9, lol).

But summer is on its way and I'd like to try something a little more concealable. I own a polymer gun - but full metal framed guns will always be my preference. Besides - never use a small caliber solution on a large caliber problem :thumbup

For me, that was true. The M&P was only carried in winter/fall and this was on the east coast.

can't you open carry on all forest service land? What about BLM?

Obama's Fed law has a direct relationship to the state's law. The short answer: if you can legally CCW or Open Carry in that state - then you can on Fed land.

The GSSF Glock match is at Yolo March 19-20. Stand and shoot, easy stages, no experience necessary, no holster or mag holsters needed. Four mags needed, 2 or 3 if you have an ammo bearer to load mags while you shoot. Stock Glocks only, sights and grip tape OK. Membership required and you can join on the spot. They have random drawings for guns and cash.

I have a re-qualification coming up. Will be keeping the same ones. G19, G43 and LCP.

I haven't shot my G30 in a few years. G42 is hands down best shooting .380 pistol!

i was thinking about testing out a G19 at the range. they rent out almost every type of glock there is, and i like my 43 so much that its slowly turning me into a fanboy.

the only other glock ive ever owned was a G37, and it shot 45gap rounds, which were almost a dollar a round for the cheap stuff! it soured me on glocks for a while but my 43 is bringing me back around.

I finally turned in my Glock certificate and chose a 43. I almost got a 29 but I'm already dropping $9 in 10mm brass per GSSF match.

I want to pick up a Remington model 51 (not the new R51, the original model from the '20s. I'm in CA and there are some for sale in CA. So long as I go through an FFL is this a legal pistol to purchase?

Yes. Either as PPT or dealer sale used gun with DROS submitted to C&R exempt gun.
