Congratulations kelsodeez on the new license…

The timing of your post is good - my appologies if this is a bit of a jack - I’m looking for a new 1911 as a CCW. Current for me is a Government in a Milt Sparks Versa Max 2.

Fortunately, the CCW license in my current state applies to all hand guns… I’d like a Commander (or maybe a 4.25″ CCO) but it needs to be a "bobtail" for either version. I am limited to a budget of $1500 – according to my CFO. Any ideas? I’d prefer new, but I’ve been stalking Cabala’s Gun Library :thumbup

-----------------------------

I know there may be some grief around a sub 4” gun being called a 1911, but just so we are aligned… If I made some misrepresentation on the sizes/nomenclature below, my bad – but let’s keep to the spirit if not the letter…
  • Government: 5" barrel with full size frame
  • Commander: 4.25" barrel with full size frame
  • Combat Carry Officers (or CCO): Commander (4.25″) or mid-size (4″) barrel on Officer’s frame
  • Officer (Compact): 3.5" barrel and a shorter frame (normally by one cartage)

the pistols i qualified with are my glock 43/kydex iwb holster, beretta 92fs blackhawk retention holster (had to buy a soft holster for qualif. tho) and my taurus model 85 w/ a crappy little ankle holster. i wish i wouldve been able to replace my beretta and taurus with a 1911 and a smith&wesson bodyguard but this whole process has been so damn expensive that i couldnt justify spending an extra $1500-2k.

For under 1500, I like the Dan Wesson CCO. You can also fit different baseplates on Wilson Combat govt mags to prevent overinsertion in the officer frame if you're looking for a little more capacity on your secondary (or more) mags.

kimbers are nice as hell but i still think if i had the cash right now, id go for a sig sauer tacops 1911

I picked up a Sig .45 1911 XO from Roman a couple years back and it's still awesome. Heavier than my P220 but that adds to the stability. :thumbup

For CCW, I think he actually wants guns that will work 100% the time. :laughing

Now that's just mean spirited, lol.

I have a Kimber CPD II and it is rock solid - right out of the box it had one jam and none since (600 rounds or so). I have a P99QA as well, but that has become my wifes gun... Still not sure how I lost "ownership" on that one.

I am looking for a 1911 with a shorter slide/barrel length and a bob-tail to limit printing. CBOB is looking good - as is a VBOB if I can get a great deal...

I have a 5" eclipse and 3" cdp II. The eclipse works well when it's clean, jams once every few mags when it's dirty. The CDP runs great when clean and jams once every 300 rounds or so. Not exactly a great track record.

On the plus side, they are ridiculously accurate. Yes, even the 3".

also, is this the thread with the most views or posts on barf? I just looked at it has 2.7M views! crazy!

Eh, 2.6M of those are the alphabet soup agencies, a few hundred thousand are the nervous nanny neighborhood watch types, maybe a hundred thousand from reporters looking for a juicy "zomg selling guns on craigslist" type story, and the last hundred thousand from actual gun owners/BARFers. Come on, we're in California, you really think guns are THAT popular here? :laughing
