Cheap revolver in .357Mag, anyone? Know where to find one? My dad wants one for Christmas. 586/686 would be cool, so would a Taurus of some sort. Whatchathink?

Traders has super-awesome surplus Walther P38s in 9mm for like $350-400 :wow

Check Wild Sports in Orangevale, they often run ads in Thursday's Sac Bee. I've seen 686s listed a bunch of times, ususally around $460 or so, but it's been a while.

The P38s Traders is selling are actually P-1s that have an alloy frame instead of the steel frame of the P-38. Still a nice pistol, I keep thinking of getting one but other stuff crops up.

Speaking of which, I pick up my M1 Garand tomorrow. :teeth

:( The P-1 is not C&R :(

I found some cool Yugo M48 Mausers in exc condition for $169 shipped..kinda wanna have my dad order me one with his 03FFL

Where are you getting the Garand from? I'm thinking of ordering one through the CMP.

Crap, I just realized the Sig is one of those classified as an exempt Olympic pistol, so would have been available to buy until next year.

Oh well, it's still mine! :banana

My little Walther P22 didn't have anything to do with this burst of 22LR buying did it? :laughing

I actually got it from the new Guns and Fishing place in Vacaville. Was there after a ride to check things out and they had a Springfield on consignment for $500. Bore was dirty and a little pitted but the rifling was still pretty sharp so I got it. I've been wanting to do the CMP thing too, but this is pretty close to that price without going through the hoops. And cause it's consignment, no sales tax.

It's all Thatch's fault!! :laughing

Actually, I was going over the list of .22's with my wife, and she remembered your P22, and it was her favorite. But since it has a magazine-disconnect, it'll still be available next year.

And her birthday's in February - plenty of time to get these, a P7M8, and then the P22 for her b-day! :banana

OK, so I'd like to get a rifle and shoot said rifle at a target range. Since my moto is my only motorized transport, I'm wondering if there are rifles that are easy to disassemble and carry on a moto in a backpack or messenger bag. I don't really want to draw attention to myself by slinging the thing over my shoulder Valgar-style. Suggestions?

Just get a soft rifle bag with shoulder straps, and a carbine of some sort. My SKS field-strips in about 9 seconds and is about 30 inches long at that point.

There are several options. Without knowing what you are looking for, I'd suggest the AR-7. James Bond can shoot down helicopters with it, and so can you!

The Henry U.S. Survival rifle is ultra-lightweight, weighing in at a scant 2.5 pounds. The unique design allows the rifle to break down easily into three pieces in seconds. This enables the barrel, action and two 8-round magazines to fit comfortably into the tough ABS synthetic waterproof stock. No tools are needed to assemble or disassemble. Once disassembled and stowed, it is only an incredible 16 inches long. Carry it in your backpack with room to spare.

And once you break it down inside the stock you can just stuff it inside your jacket. :laughing who needs a sling bag? LOL that's my favorite .22

Hmmm. It's cheap, too. I will consider it. Wow - bondjamesbond can kill a helicopter with a .22?

I was thinking that it'd be nice to get something a bit more, uh, general purpose than a plinker. Do they make a .50? :p

For only a grand total of less than 2000 rounds combined pistol/rifle/shotgun shooting in my entire lifetime, I'd say I'm decent. :teeth

Accuracy...
What, from a bench? Who gives a shit about that. Real shooting skills are shown when you're running through a forest uphill for seventeen miles with artillery barrages landing all around you, your ears bleeding and shrieking, you're dizzy, and you spot a bad guy 80 yards up ahead and drop him with a single shot from a crouched position from behind a tree :teeth But I haven't done that yet :laughing

I always get a kick out of those guys with $3000 rifles and $5000 scopes with bipods, spotting scopes, $15/rd ammo, and t-shirts from various competitions they've shot at. Yeah, I'd like to see those guys bring that concrete bench with them to the battlefield.

It's like having a chromed out polished R1 and riding it to Starbucks :p

Here's the new M1. I reeeeaaaaalllly like this thing. Can't wait to get out and shoot it.

BTW, calguns is having it's annual Day After Thanksgiving BBQ and Shoot at Chabot. Here's a link to the thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=44 It's always a really good time. Half the people don't even show to shoot, mostly just to socialize.

Did I mention I really like the M1?
