BARF Militia

Rock River has a 10% discount on certain items plus free shipping through the 31st. :thumbup Sooooo....... I ordered an upper, a lower kit and stock from them today. They quote 4 to 8 weeks lead time on their uppers - hopefully they beat that timeframe:wtf

I'll be in deep shit when the wife finds out:cry

Happy New Year!

So, here is my current dilema. Dad gave me his 10 year old ruger which was dirty. The stock is OK, pretty banged up though. And the barrel seems rusted on the outside and the inside is probably shit. I cleaned up the receiver and trigger assembly real good, works smooth now! But, I think even it is missing one part or something, the back receiver pin..

Anyway, my dilemma is this:

1. Buy synth stock and ss barrel, which are both from a stock gun on Calguns for $60.

OR

2. Buy a green mountain 20" bull barrel in SS and put it in a Hogue overmold stock. $200.

Thoughts? Will I notice a difference in the way it shoots?

Go for the bull barrel and stock. You will notice a difference; at least you would if you compared it to your current setup! I have loaded mine and my son's up with tons of goodies over the years.

Depends on what you want the .22 for. If you are punching paper, go ahead and do the bull barrel and Houge. It may be slightly more accurate, but the bull barrel makes it easier to hold steady and get a good shot off. If you are gonna have a squirrel shooter, I'd go with the other setup as it will be lighter to carry around.

I'll dig around in the safe to see what's left of my original 10-22 parts. I should still have my original blued barrel and the hardwood stock. I do have a Fajen laminated thumbhole stock that I never found to be comfortable. Your rear receiver pin could be replaced with a cut-off drill shank of the right size.

Good points, all. There are several reasons for needing a new weapon. One is to carry at all times, another is for snowmobiling. Going out into the wild, I like to take a weapon with me in case I run across a wild animal or a dumb-ass animal. Also, in the unlikely event that I become stranded, I would like to have something to shoot small game with. During the summer, I also want something to take into the back country for day trips for the same reasons.

So, being able to shoot quickly, accurately and have some intimidation value are all necessary requirements for the weapon. I might have to try the glock.

Sounds like a good option; have you shot USP Compacts? I like my compact even better than my fullsize for some reason. I have big hands, so I expected otherwise. (They're both in .40.) The first pull (DA) is still pretty good. I ran my compact in a one-day defensive pistol course and it ran fine with the big boys. You can get DA-only variants as well.

Then again, I've been drinking the 1911 Kool-Aid lately so I'll probably put them both up for sale ... maybe in a package deal with my M1A the day after Mike T gets his ass in gear and gets his own. ;) :twofinger

ETA: I thought I posted this earlier, but Ducky, best of luck to your dad and your family, buddy. My GF's dad had his third last year and he's still kicking ass, so keep your spirits up! :thumbup

If you really want a DE, just watch calguns, you can get them for less than $750. I got mine for less of a fellow barfer.
who was the sucker that let loose for less than $750?:p

Anyone second his motion on .22 parts? :)
:wave second
I have 3 10/22's and have been itching to mod the crap outta one but I seem to find other things to throw in front of it...Soon I hope...Hope:|

The Fajen stock also perked my interest. Do you have the adjustable model? For the price, it seemed similar to the B&C stocks which I will get, but I'll spend that cash on a Rem 700 stock once I get one..

Best place to buy a shotgun in north bay? I'm in Cordelia and am looking to get a Remington SPR310 O/U.

haha, so i ended up getting a new Browning Citori Lightning 20 gauge :shocker. Gotta wait now, will report back with pics in 2 weeks when I go pick it up and get some rounds though it.

jk....i think theyre pretty cool...but i love the USP and the 1911....

:cry 8 more months!

I got it up in Redding at a place called "The old West" for $1,500 OTD. It's $200 below MSRP, but I guess I could have haggled them down for less. :dunno

Wow, that's a hell of a drive to have to do twice. But not a bad price for a Citori.

I was up here in Red Bluff visiting my family. My brother and wife went up there to pick something out. I'll just come back up here in 2 weeks to visit everyone again and go pick it up.

It was pretty funny. My wife wanted me to get a 12 and her a 20, so much for my budget. She sees the guns and her eyes light up. We only got the one, but she was trying to convince me to get both.

Damn, I wish I had the same problem as you. :wtf

Okay, I got a 40 yr. old Winchester 190 .22 rifle from CeruleanSkye's dad for Christmas and I'm restoring it. After breaking it down, I've discovered that I'm going to have to do some serious cleaning and re-oiling. Anybody have any suggestions? I heard Gun Scrubber is good, but I'm just seeing if there's something better. It needs some serious residue removal.

I also bought myself another .22 (so CeruleanSkye and I can go together) that's I'm picking up on the 9th.

I still have my Tanfoglio Witness 9mm, too...
