I got my Tyrade last night! :teeth

Ti frame, carbon fiber inlays, and a really cool blade. Kershaw figured out a way to make the cutting edge a great steel (more expensive D2) and the rest of the blade a standard 154CM. The end result is very cool looking and below...

I got a Kershaw Blur online a while back with their powder steel laminate blade (akin to ZDP), don't recall the name. Interesting steel, but I didn't like the inconsistent/cheap feel of the action and the aggressive rubbery inserts in a slippery scale seemed like two wrongs trying unsuccessfully to make a right. Some people recommended removing the assisted-opening spring on these, and I can see why. "Here's a new pruning knife, Mom", and that was the last I heard of it.

I would easily prefer a ZDP Delica, or better yet, a few more bucks gets you the Caly 3 G-10/VG-10. That is a real gem of a knife, and a fine user -- what you lose in edge holding you make up in ease of sharpening and decreased brittleness.

I ahve a leek and a blur and both have seen minimal use and look pretty beat up...

Other than my Ken Onion and Zero Tolerance blades, I think I'm done with the Kershaws if I actually want to use them. Good customer service though and a fine recommendation for those just getting into knives who might be shocked/stunned by the price of a good knive.

I'm getting into the titanium monolock and S30V bladed knives (Sebenza, Alias, Mini-skirmish) and all will likely be a better hard use knives.

I've been kicking around the idea of becoming a knife dealer and actually creating some hard use reviews so folks know what they're getting... I'd like to stop being a project manager anyway! :laughing

Question: Planning to visit family in Lost Wages (Las Vegas) and was thinking of doing some shooting at their local range. What are the rules in bringing my gun to Vegas.

AB2062 (ammo registration bill) was taken out of suspense yesterday and is scheduled for vote on Thursday (5/22). If this passes, you will be allowed to purchase ONLY 50 ROUNDS OF AMMO A MONTH, unless you apply for a Ammo Manufacturer's Permit. Keep in mind that you cannot get the permit unless you hold a valid business license in your county (which means even more fees, taxes, and paperwork).

Please take 10 minutes and call the following legislators TOMORROW:

Mark Leno(D) - Chair 13 – San Francisco (916) 319-2013

Mimi Walters(R) 73 – Laguna Nigel (916) 319-2073

Anna M. Caballero(D)28 – Salinas (916) 319-2028

Mike Davis(D) 48 – Los Angeles (916) 319-2048

Mark DeSaulnier(D)11 – Martinez (916) 319-2011

Bill Emmerson(R) 63 – Redlands (916) 319-2063

Jared Huffman(D) 06 – San Rafael (916) 319-2006

Betty Karnette(D) 54 – Long Beach (916) 319-2054

Paul Krekorian(D) 43 – Burbank (916) 319-2043

Doug La Malfa(R) 02 – Biggs (916) 319-2002

Ted W. Lieu(D) 53 – Torrance (916) 319-2053

Fiona Ma(D) 12 – San Francisco (916) 319-2012

Alan Nakanishi(R) 10 – Lodi (916) 319-2010

Pedro Nava(D) 35 – Santa Barbara (916) 319-2035

Sharon Runner(R) 36 – Lancaster (916) 319-2036

Jose Solorio(D) 69 – Santa Ana (916) 319-2069

All you have to say is "I'm calling to voice my opposition to AB2062." Normally, they don't need more info than that, although some may ask for your name and address.

If that shit passes I say we find the author(s) of the bill and spend our 50 ammo-a-month limit at their houses.

Nah - just do a range day a little closer to me and I'll bring my collection for you to try out. :thumbup

Just let us know what you need in a knife and I'll make a few suggestions. They don't always have to be expensive to be good ;)

That would be great! I'm definitely on the value end of the knife scale. Looking for something in a pocket size, assisted opening nice if the mechanism is ambidextrous (I'm a lefty). Partial serration on the blade would be good, since I somehow often end up slicing rope. I tend towards the very understated in styling terms.

Also--just picked up a Kahr PM9 at Diablo Valley Gun Works. Gonna try it out at Targetmasters tomorrow, I think. :teeth

There are a lot of knives out there, but the Benchmade Mini Griptilian would be just about perfect. Not too big, not too small, ambidextrous clip and lock, very strong and fast locking mechanism (axis-lock), good blade material (154CM), good comfortable grip, and very highly regarded as an EDC knife among knife fans. It's not assisted opening but the axis lock is as fast and will keep you out of trouble with the assisted opening = switchblade thinking in some LEOs.

Here's some of the better prices I've seen - it comes in many flavors (color, shape, etc):

You can even get it with a slight better steel (but not worth the $$ IMO):

For that matter, most of the axis-lock BMs can be lefty as well. Something to think about in case you don't like the looks of the griptilian ;) If so, I have LOTS of other recommendations :laughing

The axis-lock in action (you like pink, right? :laughing):

You don't need a huge blade for everyday usage - here's what I carry on a daily basis in my slacks:
