BARF Militia

I think I'll be at the AMA races at Sears Point this Saturday.

Next Sat is the high-power shoot though, so I'll meet up with Ratters' crew first and then head to the high-power match.

Zeff - Stop by the 75-mm pack howitzers my unit will be bringing, ask for SSG K. We're going to have them as static displays for Saturday & Sunday at Infineon/Sears Point.

Dittos to anybody else coming to IR for the weekend... :laughing :thumbup

I'm going to be buying my first handgun. Bronto~Alan pointed me to Gallery of Guns. Unfortunately the pistol I want isn't listed in GoG. When you guys buy new firearms, do you buy retail or offer a decent price?

So far, I've stopped by Diablo Valley Gun Works and Canyon Sports. The guys at DVGW are much nicer. And one of them told me that a local PD was giving away free gun locks. So yesterday I dropped by there and picked up three. (Yeah, I know that new firearms come with gun locks.)

Is anyone bringing a Kahr 9 of some flavor? The family may possibly let me escape for a while.

Hmmm...I'll be picking up the PM9 I just got next week; perhaps I can make it out then. It'll be interesting to find out how shooting something that small will feel!

Masa, congrats! I've bought a couple new (got my last one as a private-party sale at DVGW, nice guys), inherited a couple, and have gotten a couple used. Keep an eye on the ads in Calguns for good used deals there, as well.

Sorry, haven't been checking the thread but its 100% Belgian(SP?). Funny it was my first handgun purchase about 18 years ago. I did a lot of research cuz I only wanted to ever buy "one" handgun so I wanted the best one I could find. Yeah right, one gun :rolleyes, sure...

You have one of the better ones then :thumbup

As for owning only one gun. . . . . ya right :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

^^ Good lookin' out! What about the rule about when you buy a gun you have to have a receipt of purchase within the last 30 days?

Really?

I'm going to try my town's PD next! Some of these locks will come in handy for my bikes (or if ever I find a stolen bike).

Here's a picture of the ones from Pleasant Hill PD:

I picked up the Benchmade at Stevens Creek Surplus - 15% off all weekend so I was able to pick it up for less than the interweb. ;)

LOL, I was just there last week and was so tempted to buy a couple. I passed though since I'm going to Nevada this weekend, can you say "Cabelas"?

The last handgun I bought, the gun store threw in one of those Project Childsafe locks for "free," just giving me a $0.50 receipt to comply with the law, but not actually charging me extra.

But you're right - if you get a gun lock for free from the PD, it can't satisfy the "30-day receipt" requirement.

Some PD's will give you a receipt so you can comply with the rule. You just have to call and find if your PD will.

I love that place. I can spend an hour in their fishing department. . .and I don't even fish.

buy your gun, buy their lock.

once your firearm is safely at home (or in the car) bring the lock back and get your refund.

(didn't post this)

What is the best way to break in a holster? The range officer told us to use a hair dryer and silicone spray on the inside. He also said that it will need about 500 draws to "break" it in.

anyone know any other ways?

On Duty? Off duty? Concealed carry? Open top? What level retention?

If it's kydex, there's no break-in period.

If it's nylon, there's very minimal break-in period.

If it's leather, IMHO, do not use any silicone spray on your leather. Ever. Body warmth if it's an off duty or concealed carry always worked for me. I've worn in my Galco's by just constantly wearing it.

If you're talking On-Duty...then yeah, wearing it and drawing from it might be your best bet. [/$0.02]

zanshin...ahahah hilarious
