BARF Militia

Thanks for the pics. :thumbup

Yeah, they can get pretty pissy about picture taking, but it depends on whose watching the range. I've done it many times and only been yelled at once.

Thanks Miran.

I'm thinking about getting Makarov or Tokarev. Looking to spend about $300

Any particular reason for those two? Just want something cheap and Russian? 'Cause there's a brand new Ruger 9mm I found at Bud's for $300 shipped. That's crazy. Over-engineered, durable, and pretty accurate. 10rd magazine, too, so it's Ca-legal.

For Maks and Toks, I guess keep browsing calguns, gunbroker, maybe even gunsamerica. Check out cdnninvestment.com .. download their catalog and browse through it. They often have great deals on used/rearsenaled stuff.

Cheap, reliable and cheap ammo.

cdnninvestment.com- weird link.

I haven't competed in an official IDPA match yet, but the GF and I took the safe handgun competitor class out at Richmond Rod & Gun a couple of weekends ago. I think I'm going to give it a try after I pick up my Sig P6 and a holster.

Good way to start either IDPA or IPSC-type competing is to go to one of the informal tactical pistol matches at Chabot...the next one is on July 19th. They're pretty fun, lots of different problems to solve whilst shooting and running around.

I second that! Those 3rd Saturday tac pistol matches at Chabot are waaaay, waaay fun, and teh folks are both reassuringly safety-conscious and not exceedingly serious. They're also really welcoming-- even to folks who have to have the rules explained to 'em slowly... :)

Guys, anybody familiar with Bersa Thunder .380 ACP?

Walther PPK clone...unfortunately it uses blowback operation instead of recoil/short recoil. Normal people with normal hands sometimes get their hands pinched by the slide moving backwards. Impossible to find reliable, affordable spare magazines for it, and .380ACP is not a cheap or effective round for what it is. For cheap plinking, you're better off with finding a semi-auto .22LR pistol. $10 for 500rds? Win! :p
