BARF Militia

Shot,
My direct experience is with my Dads and he has the 30 round Mag conversion. We get looks when we have gone. Granted we were at an indoor range but lots of eyes were on us when we squeeze out 15 or 20 rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger.

Yeah, I'm sure a 30rd mag will attract attention anywhere in CA..start rapid-firing it indoors, and you'll get even more stares :laughing

Then flip out that bayonett and charge the target...

Anyone got that pic of Kneesparks point his guns at the camera (loaded)?

Ahaha! BEST THREAD EVER NOW!!!!

Has anyone with an SKS had it fire twoice for one trigger pull?

Mine has done it on 5 occassions now.

Wonder if it could be made full auto?

That might cause problems. Hey Webber look at my SKS where was it made? How do you know?

Troy,
Looking at the serial number, I see two letters in cyrillic, followed by three numbers...IG 106.

The Russian rifles have two letters followed by four numbers, for example AA1234
The Romanian rifles have the same, but with the date after, for example AA1234-1959
The Chinese have 7-8 numbers
The Yugos have 6 numbers.

I noticed the electro-penciled numbers in your pictures..So, the 6 Xs on the stock would be the original AP1234-type serial number. What you have on your hands is a Russian refurbished SKS. It should also have a square with a diagonal line through it somewhere on top, around the star. As a shooter, this doesn't mean anything, but this is not something you'd keep as a collector just because it's not "original."

<edit> I just realized you said it's a 1950s manufacture...so yes, it has a star with an arrow inside it, and it was made at the famous Tula factory, where they made SKS rifles from '49 to '55. I think Tom's M44 was made at Tula 6 years before your SKS :teeth

On the stock opposite side from the Star is the square with the diagonal line. It has a star with the arrow inside the star on the reciever cover above the number 1950r.

Thanks for the education :teeth

:laughing I edited my post above, see the edit..

ummm, 1950r? Remember, Russians use a different alphabet..the Cyrillic alphabet's letter "g" looks like an upside-down L. The Cyrillic "g" is short for "godina" which means "year." Some will say "god." which is also short for "godina," it has nothing to do with God. :teeth So 1950g...they have a weird way of saying "1950 year" instead of "the year 1950" so that's what it means.

So yeah, you got yourself a Russian refurb, which is nice since it means that they took a used rifle and made it as good or better than new ;) It should be a great shooter! You should take it out sometime..

Well now that I know its a refurb I won't be a pansy with it and will go shooting with it. Now to ask a silly question I bought his thing 8 years ago in Virginia. Do I need to register it in CA? If so will they give me shit for it having a bayonet and me not having registered it in the past 4 years?

If the clip is no more than 10 rounds you should have no problem as it will look like every other SKS out there.

As for the registering, I don't know.

Geez Troy, don't call it the Barf Army, Uncle Sam might come in and bust us for conspiracy :p :laughing

Regarding the legality of your SKS, you registered it in Virginia when you bought it, it meets all California regulations, so there should be no problem. I overheard the same question asked when I was over at Trader Sports the other day and a guy was asking about his pistol that he bought 10 years ago and whether or not he has to do anything after he moves. The answer was no, you registered it once when you bought it and that's all.

The next Barf shoot is September 26th (A Sunday)..Ratters posted a link in the Social Gatherings section. Don't forget to stock up on some ammo! :teeth

And here's a link with some general SKS info, including maintenance and such

I will be down in LA riding dirt bikes with my son, nephew and brother in law. Oh well next time. Thanks for all the good info.
