That might cause problems. Hey Webber look at my SKS where was it made? How do you know?
Troy,
Looking at the serial number, I see two letters in cyrillic, followed by three numbers...IG 106.
The Russian rifles have two letters followed by four numbers, for example AA1234
The Romanian rifles have the same, but with the date after, for example AA1234-1959
The Chinese have 7-8 numbers
The Yugos have 6 numbers.
I noticed the electro-penciled numbers in your pictures..So, the 6 Xs on the stock would be the original AP1234-type serial number. What you have on your hands is a Russian refurbished SKS. It should also have a square with a diagonal line through it somewhere on top, around the star. As a shooter, this doesn't mean anything, but this is not something you'd keep as a collector just because it's not "original."
<edit> I just realized you said it's a 1950s manufacture...so yes, it has a star with an arrow inside it, and it was made at the famous Tula factory, where they made SKS rifles from '49 to '55. I think Tom's M44 was made at Tula 6 years before your SKS
