Anybody want to read a great survival fiction?

Check out Light's Out by Half Fast. He's only about 70% done but it's turning out to be a really great read. It's about an EMP burst that permanently takes out electricity in Europe and the United States, and what people had to do to survive.

Sweet, thanks! I love that stuff. Lucifer's Hammer is one of my favorite books.

Howdy folks - Here's my newest little pride and joy, and an adorable story:

When I was adding this to the safe, I had to re-arrange the handguns to make room. My two-year old daughter was sitting on the edge of the bed watching me, so I'd take each one out, show it to her and make a comment about it, and then put it in the safe.
I pulled the Tomcat out of the box, showed it to her, and made sure it was unloaded, and handed it to her.
She cradled it in her tiny hands, looked at me with a big smile, and asked, "Mine?"

I tried to be super artsy with the picture, like Webberstyle :p

Hmm, my wife just told me she wants me to get the kids out of the house for a few hours so she can wrap presents and stuff...

I was considering going, but I just spent about $500 on ammo in the last month, started seeing the girlfriend again, and am thinking about a new motorcycle next month, so best not to court temptation. Please report any interesting finds. Thanks. :)

Will you be selling the VFR then?

Yeah, if I get a new bike I'll be getting rid of the VFR. No sense in having two similar bikes.

I still have a bunch of credit card debt from life after the divorce last year I should really get rid of first. Though being responsible with money is not one of my strong suits. :shhh ;)

Well, I didn't quite make it to the Cow Palace, but I *did* manage a trip to Traders and picked up some Silvertip for the Tomcat, and some CorBon 357.

So that's my feeble contribution to Ammo Week, and brings my ammo inventory to 5,145 rounds. Any additional bulk purchases will have to wait until after Christmas :(

Looky what someone bought today.

OK I didnt buy the whole gun quite yet, but I did buy the lower reciever and when I get the rest of the money together ill be proud owner of a .50BMG rifle. Soon to be a banned weapon.

That is damn respectable!

I'm not even going to ask how much it's going to cost by the time that you finish putting it all together, because I'm guessing that the scope(Leupold, of course?) alone is going to be just shy of 1k before taxes.

This is going to be a major build.

Price of gun alone is 3k. And the glass im shopping around. But I think I am going to be spending around the 1500 mark.

What's the price range on decent scopes?

...and what makes a $1500 scope better than a $500 one?

Curious...

A decent scope will cost you between $200 and $2000 depending upon your needs and application.

Glass, coatings, construction, features and name are the reasons for wildly different prices on scopes.

A $1500 scope will have excellent glass and coatings, be very repeatable and offer a very clear, bright, and smooth sight picture.

That said, a $500 leupold will serve most people just fine. Even the Bushnell Elite 3200 Tactical is a fine scope for about $200, just don't expect the brightness or resolution of a Nightforce. In fact, Barret includes that scope with it's police package for the M99 .50 cal.

I have an SWFA Super Sniper on my LTR that was about $300. It has a nice bright sight picture, and is very repeatable, but the clicks aren't as precise and the sight picture loses clarity (a little bit) as you move toward the edge. A really nice scope doesn't do that, but for my purpose the scope works beautifully.

I have a $200 Burris on my .270 that works just fine as well, but I'm not taking 400 yard shots at dusk where the extra brightness and resolution will help big time.

Hope that helps some.

BTW, if you are looking for scopes, check out www.swfa.com and click on their "Sample List" page. They are blowing out a lot of the Vari-X III scopes for some very excellent prices because of the new VXIII model.
