Yeah, we got our tags in today, the guns should be coming in a few weeks. Price is $799. Not sure if there'll be a sale price or not. I'm told they might have cracked stocks.

You are better off buying from CMP :thumbup

http://www.thecmp.org/m1garand.htm

CMP is great for people who joined or want to join an affiliated club, shoot or have shot a marksmanship competition or training, and who don't mind paying $600+ for a rifle of unknown appearance and quality.

For those who DON'T want to do all that and just want an M1 Garand without the strings attached, Big 5 has or will have them for probably less money than you'll end up paying after your club membership, your competition costs, your CMP Garand cost, and you get to handle the rifle before you buy it ;)

So, no, you're not necessarily better off buying from the CMP, though I do support what CMP is doing.

I've seen what Big 5 sells and I've seen and bought from CMP. You are better off with CMP.

Yes you need to belong to a club. Most rod and gun clubs @~$25 per year, or the Garand Collector club ~$25 per year, or one of many other organizations at $25. Don't know about competition costs as my dd214 took care of that. And I got a nice WWII Garand delivered to my door for hundreds less than what I could have got at Big5. (without a broken stock)

Don't get wrong. I like Big5, been shopping there for years. But if you want a Garand or an M1 carbine CMP is the way to go.

Or the CRPA - California Rifle and Pistol Association.

The high-power matches at Chabot were only $12, and they'd loan you a Garand to shoot for the match. Good times. :cool

Concord Big5 said they were expecting a large ammo shipment today but hardly got anything :(.

anyone seen any cheap .38 special rounds at any stores?

Stores, no, but you missed out on the LRN .38 specials online at ammoman by about a week or so. They were going for $219/1k shipped. Not a great price for a plinking round, but better than not having anything to shoot.

well keep your eyes open for me friends. id like to get a couple hundred. i am finally getting my handgun i inherited just a lil smith an wesson 5 shot snubby with a nice oversized grip. perfect for the sock drawer!:thumbup

Does Big5 do FFL transfers? If so, how much?

Eiernkreuz, do you have any more rifles that need cleaning? :laughing

It was great meeting you yesterday :thumbup
