Looks good Miran. Did you rub it with linseed oil? I need to do my stock, still reeks of cosmoline every time I take it out to shoot.

How did you clean it? I bought a can of Easy Off to do mine, probably get around to it this summer.

the Gunner grips are on the short list, just wondering how much 'bite' they have.

Couple others I have been looking at are the Davidosn grips http://davidsonknives.com/grips/grips.htm and another set of alumagrips in the half smooth/half checkered http://www.alumagrips.com/main.taf?p=2,1,3,4,2

hard to find smooth wood grips that are shaped for a magwell.

Yes, I like the 4X4's http://davidsonknives.com/grips/4x4.htm

Just wonder how Aluminum feels on a 1911. I have small hands so I prefer the ultra thin wooded grips offered by Wilson. In addition to a slimline pistol, I am looking for some absorbant type of material to get a better grip and a non-slip one. Was looking at these http://www.midwayusa.com/rewriteaproduct/799381

and also maybe these:

the aluminum feels great, thats what I currently have, custom engraved alumagrips, no checkering. No problems with grip shifting. I have thought of trying the grip tape just for grins and giggles, but really isnt needed on my gun.
Alumagrips makes a slimline version too

its made out of this super hard laminate stuff called g-10, when i say hard, i do mean HARD,. i had to sand a little off the backside to make space for my wilson combat magwell which has hooks that latch onto the lower grip spacers, i only had to sand off like a mm on each side, like once square inch, and that took me 6 FUCKING hours by hand! this stuff is like fucking indestructable.

im a firm believer in these grips, VERY grippy in all conditions, even wet/oil/mud (actually even better with oil on them for some reason) and are very comfortable with a firm grip.
im ordering a set for my trp operator soon.

if you look a few pages back theres a pic with a set of those grips on my kimber.

edit-and yeah i do mean those grips on your hyperlink, look on pg 116 of this thread at my 1911's, order them directly from simonich knives, rob simonich died unfortunately a few months ago so his wife runs the comp now, call her she will send you out a set, i got mine in a few days. good company and fast.

ALSO, if you want the coyote brown ones, like the one on the kimber warror used by the marine DET-1 unit, you will have to order them from strider knives, as those are made by them under contract. the coyote brown and the green/black ones are pimp!

If ya'll had a $700 budget to get a handgun which one would you consider?

Rambeezi - completely depends on what I wanted the handgun for.

What is your plan with this handgun?

I guess for typical home defense, starting a collection, and hobby shooting. I already have a .357 S&W Model 686 I inherited from my father. My father was a wheelgun fan and had quite a collection. I sold all of them (except for the mentioned .357) but I am now seriously interested in the auto/semi-auto handguns. My experience with semi-autos are minimal (not more than 1000 rounds) with shooting friend's / family member's guns. Semi-autos I've shot are:

- Glock 17 & 22
- S&W Sigma 9mm
- HK USP 9mm
- Beretta 92 / 96

I was leaning more toward an HK or a Colt Defender but I think they are way above my budget.

CZ75B 9mm :drool

Or I'm sure you can get some sort of 1911 in .45ACP for under $700. It may not be a Kimber for that kind of money though..

Yes!! After reading some of the recent posts in this thread I'm starting to look at some 1911 types! Any 1911 makers that will fall at or under the $700 budget??

depends on what you need it for. Since you live in SJ I'm assuming not concealed carry.
For a general range/ home defense gun.

XD9 tactical, Glock 34, CZ75.

Whichever gun you get, spend the big bucks on training to use it properly. Take the 3 day handgun at Thunder Ranch Oregon, or the 4 day at Front Sight, or a 3 day down at ITTS in So Cal.

Some of the springfields are available under 700 but not many. Those that are will be the lower end models that wont have beavertail safetys, nicer sights etc. We are also located in the Bay Area, and that artificially raises the prices. Same gun in the Central Valley will be cheaper.

Really cant go wrong with a Springfield, but KImbers are nice as well

I bought my Kimber Custom II for a little over $600, that was a few years ago though. Wouldn't hurt to do some shopping. Also astrocreep just bought a Rock Island Armory 1911 for $300. Buy two?

Well, I finally got my Rock Island Armory 1911 after my 10 day waiting for what exactly period.
I must say I'm very impressed!:teeth I shot around 180 rounds tonight without a failure. The accuracy is as good as I can expect since I haven't shot a handgun in months. I would like to put it in a vise to see what it does. I was holding around 2" groups at 10 yards if I took my time.
Compared to a springfield 1911 that I shot earlier I can tell no difference but my wallet can!
Best 300 bucks plus FFL and transfer fee's
I've spent on a gun.
I would like to change the sights though. I prefer 3 dots sights. Also I would like a little lighter trigger pull. I'm not saying it's too harsh compared to the springfield they are the same but when your target shooting a lighter feel is prefered by me.
Enough punching paper where can I do some steel shooting? Like the stuff I see on TV when they cover competition shoots.
Where the line up steel plates six accross and you knock them down as fast as you can.
Anyone else a 1911 fan?
