You get what you paid for in guns too. Watch out for those low priced 1911s. What ever happened to those Norinco 1911's back about 5 years ago?

Didn't Daron buy a Charles Daly last year? It was a POS and ended up spending a few hundred more fixing it.

Besides the 1911 in .45 there are a lot of nice pistols like the Sigs and HKs that you can't go wrong.

The Norinco's were actually highly sought after as a solid base on which to build a custom gun. It was Clinton import restrictions that stopped their importation.

The Rock Island is actually not a bad pistol, no Kimber or Springfield, but a decent gun for the price.

Charles Daly's were pretty crappy.

atek- That video was nuts. As was that cop. At least he was highly trained. I love how everyone had a fit when he tried to bring out the rifle. That was sweet. Sad that he probably created a few new antis though.

That's why I don't like Glocks. Can't carry them cocked and locked. Fuck the trigger safety when you can do that to yourself. Sure he could've been safer with it, his finger shouldn't have been near the trigger, but hey, it happens..you're giving a presentation, there's a lot of kids there, you feel pressure, etc...

Glocks are fine. Just keep your finger off the damn trigger till you are ready to shoot. It's not that hard.

Amazing how many cops shoot themselves in the legs holstering their Glocks while forgetting to take their finger off the trigger.

If I saw that video correctly, he actually opens up the slide to have someone visually check the chamber but I didn't see him take out the clip. Even though the chamber is clear they should have saw the clip with the rounds (that dude was probably some non police/cilivian who had no clue to what he was checking anyways). I heard two rounds fired. That's pretty sad

Glocks operate on the same principle as the DA revolver, and we all know how many people complain about the fact that its a handgun "without a safety". Gimme a break. The cop was an idiot and he got his just desserts.

my name is ben and im a tactical poser gear whore, see i admit it.

i think its cuz i watched dawn of the dead one too many times

My point on the Glock safety thing is valid. To use an analogy, it's like buying a car that turns itself off at 6000 rpm. Stay below 6000 rpm and you'll be fine. What if I don't want to stay below 6000rpm? What if I want my finger on the trigger? Well, then the Glock sucks.

It varies by circumstance, I know.
I've never had to draw on someone, I know that, too, so don't bother wasting your time with the "You don't have any experience" thing because it's obvious I don't. But from the point of an engineer and a consumer, the Glock is not very user friendly.

I'm also aware that we don't need tools to be smarter than us and we must be smart ourselves when using these deadly tools. However, if the condition of using a tool is holding it a special way and using it a special way, fuck it, I'll buy something else that I don't have to fuck with.

you can take the safety off a glock yah know, personally i think their trigger pull is too long, same with lots of other handguns, but whatever

Not sure if Norinco's were highly sought after. If I remember correctly I think one of the editor's (Guns and Ammo?) tricked one out and a number of years back and was used on a few comparisons. It was a cheap knock off that was somewhat functional (but it was military spec). But again, you get what you paid for.

Never heard of Rock Island.

Anyone know what ever happened to to Caspian Arms? Are they still around?

I'd argue a manual safety is a bigger liability for self defense than an "always ready" design like the glock. If you miss the safety on the 1911 on the draw, or accidentally click it on during a string (which happens even to excellent IPSC shooters), oh well you blew a stage, if that happens in real life, you're fuct.
Personally I'd rather stick with a handgun design that is "idiot proof": "You pull the trigger, a glock is going to go bang every time".
I mean, for people who are too retarded to keep their fingers outside the trigger guard until their sights are on the target, (rule 3, I believe) they make "New York triggers" with 12 pound pull.

Alright, point taken.

However, if I'm caught by surprise in a dark alley by a dude with a large knife, I won't be thinking about the four rules. Maybe shows a lack of discipline on my part, or maybe the adrenaline in that situation wipes away your memory of rules. I doubt I'd even raise the gun up to use the sights at point blank. I wouldn't be breathing out or using a progressive pull on the trigger. I wouldn't be focusing on the front sight. Point. Click. Repeat until desired result is attained.

Well, they were sought after cause you could start your build with a $200 frame and slide, not because they were inherently good guns in and of themselves.

Caspians are still around, just can't get them here anymore. Freaking california. Here is the website: http://www.caspianarms.com/

All the more reason to use a simple design like the Glock. :twofinger

BTW, they arrested some of the punks that broke into the gun stores around the bay area. 18 year olds. Hope they enjoy the next ten years in prison.
