As I said in the PW thread, until BARF decides to change the site name to a word that isn't a synonym for vomit, there may be limits to the maturity level we can expect.

This.

Additionally, until :twofinger is no longer the official BARF greeting, there are going to be limits to the expected maturity / propriety levels.

Hey Lucy,

Down in Sonoma here, but I can do weekdays. Feel free to PM moi

Maybe time to open up a poll to determine what BARF's new name should be?

Bay Area Rider Society (BARS)

Bay Area Rider Klub (BARK)

Bay Area Motorcyclists (BAM)

SFBAM

Bay Area Lanesplitter Motorcyclists (BALM)

Frisco Area Rider Forum (FARF)

Norcal Area (redundant, yeah) Riders Council (NARC)

Motorcyclist Forum (almost worse than NARC... :laughing)

Just throwing some out there if there's any concern about our BARFing in public. :teeth

Hey, Carolyn! I've got most of my weekdays free whilst job-seeking, and I need to get up to Sonoma anyway to pick up some Cline Mourvedre, let me know when you want to meet me there for a ride. :thumbup

What, and lose the squids?? Say it ain't so... :laughing

Yeah, the :twofinger is a classic, but it's also a little too in-your-face offensive to many who otherwise would/might be more accepting of us.

Once in a while I'll regurgitate (no pun intended) some little factoid that I learned here to a non rider.

"Where'd you hear that?"

"Uh, on a website called BARF..."

K, we can meet at Cline.

Care to join us Lucy?

Can't blame her for getting salty, what with the barrage of off-color posts she got. Thanks for taking the thread in a better direction, folks-let's keep it that way. Welcome, Lucy. There are some great folks to ride with 'round here, if you can get past the lip.

Dravnx, Loki1000R, Danate - thanks.

For the rest of you...'pink ladies', 'leghumpers', 'a purdie mouf', 'take you under their wing'...and craigslist women seeking men ---

You guys are disrespectful losers. And not very funny.

Forget I asked.

You know I wish I could apologize for all of them and have it mean something to you. I am sorry so many guys acted so impolite and juvenile.

Honestly you guys really don't understand what jerks you were. :thumbdown Your BS is the reason that so few woman can actually hang here. Sure say the "ladies need thick skin". How about the idea of growing up and being respectful to women??

As for or name. Is what it is and honestly I am sad that some of you guys find it disturbing.

Nice avatar.

You are right Dave.

I should not have the right to say anything.

My bad. I obviously need to grow up too.

You have the right to say anything you'd like-it's your sandbox.

I just agree with Andy that the :twofinger and "barf" name likely attract the demographic that can't actually be mature. Or they set the tone-not sure which, but how much civility is expected when "fuck you" is the official greeting of the vomit family?

OP-sorry to derail your thread. I hope you find some nice people to ride with.

Me too. Name deal to website.

Bay Area Motoyuppie Forum? Bay Area Betamale Riders?

Sounds like that's where its at/headed, so why not just change it now, for posterity.

Some great name changing ideas! But BARF is perfect and so well known--

Thanks for the welcome Nemo Brinker!

MadEnglishCow and Cincinnatus, why not! I'll PM you.

TZrider, yes, around since 2012 but doing other things, maybe like out riding...

Newb or now, first rode at 18, didn't ride from 33 to 50, put about 20K on this bike now...I'm always learning from better riders.

I'll pass your info to my girlfriend, she's a new rider here on BARF and would be down to make a new riding buddy.

Seriously? Now we're ascribing asinine behavior to the site acronym and its mascot?

BARF, with or without its mascot, is just like any internet forum - thick skin would serve a user well. It's just the way of the world wide web. But that doesn't excuse behavior from more established members that isolate rather than integrate newbies or long-time lurkers. In fact, I find it more irksome to see the vets acting like they haven't been around here long enough to at least have an idea of what budman would like to see happening around his house (save for the Kitchen Sink). I know for a fact that its behaviors like these that not only drive new members away from BARF, but even other older members.

Personally, I think what's worse than people who don't have thick skin are people who just can't behave. The latter's a lot easier to do than the former, IMO.

You really don't think that sets a vibe? Talk about fucking tone deaf.

Look, I have no problem with BARF's name, the mascot, etc. I do kind of have a problem with a mod calling out Banjoboy for his schtick, when Budman follows up with indignation that someone would point out the juvenile nature of the mascot, citing freedom of expression.

Banjoboy took flak (and a suspension it seems) for an "inside joke" that was unfair to lay on a newbie (who has been a member since 2012). The comment was interpreted as misogynistic apparently, even though it's an allusion to an inbred homosexual hillbilly from 1972.

Consider that the BARF logo is kind of an inside joke too. In most circles, flipping someone off is an insult. Around here, it's a term of endearment.

To be clear, I don't have an issue with how the site markets itself, but let's at least have consistent expectations for each other. And I can do without sexist comments too. Just be smart enough to know what's what, please.

:applause

Well-stated, Andy. BARF is what it is. I accept the name and the mascot/symbol that go along with it. I typically don't wear my rally shirts in public, and I don't mention BARF by name in conversation with non-moto folks as often as I would if it were called something else. That said, I am in no way lobbying for a change in the site name or the :twofinger symbol / mascot. I agree, however, that those two items do set a tone / level of expectation among the members that is somewhat juvenile.
