Burrito Inflation

In-N-Out is still under $9 for a Double double, fries and a drink.

The In-N-Out v 5 guys wars can find their own thread.

Once you've marinated and grilled the meat, soaked and cooked the beans, cooked the rice, grated the cheese, mixed the salsa, and mashed up the guacamole, heating and stuffing the tortilla is easy!

That's how we'd make it but you can buy grated cheese, decent salsa, guacamole and ready ground meat that you can simply season.

Or you can go to Juanita Juanitas if you live around here and p/u a very large burrito for not that much money, (starting at $8.75).

They make fantastic food.

Great moto stop too; not that far from Sears Pt.

Doing all that for a family of 4 makes sense. If you're single, might as well go out.
Considering time is money, if I'm single and add up the time it takes to shop for the ingredients, marinate, soak, cook, grate, mash, heat and stuff I'm probably spending more time than it's worth vs buying a burrito at the taqueria.
Unless I make a big batch to last throughout the week. But 2 days in and I'm sick of burritos and go out for a burger. Can't win.

As if fast food manufacturing weren't nasty enough, it will be interesting to see what creative methods are used to counter rising costs.

Yeah, but now you have to eat the shitty In-N-Out fries.

Isn't it weird that french fries are actually kinda better when they are cut and frozen rather than cut fresh and cooked right away like they do at In-N-Out? If you ask for your fries well done at In-N-Out I think they are decent. But for sure some other places have better fries.

Yea, it's nuanced.

I have a ritual with INO fries. I get my box of food, take out the burger and napkin, and immediately dump the fries. You have to get them separated before they steam themselves to death.

If I order to go, I always order in a box (which I THINK Is "are you eating this is your car, but I'm just never sure what that means).

Anyway, in a box, no cover. Put those fries in a bag, and they're just a disaster.

At The Habit, they have this tendency of putting your fries on top of whatever else is in the bag, and smashing a wad of napkins on top -- guaranteeing that when you get home you get steamed potato sticks. Which are, naturally, awful. Took me about 4 tries of trying to convince them to not do that to just give up and disassemble the entire order in my car before I drive off.

Islands makes fresh fries, and they're amazing. 5 Guys are fresh and they're "not bad", but completely different style of fry from INO.

I like INO fries, I used to order well done, but I don't anymore. I just use my "anti-steam" techniques. Mostly it works, sometimes they're just not done enough period and not salvageable.

^ Steam is the absolute killer for anything crispy. It bugs me to order anything fried and crispy as take out for just the same reasons you listed."Steam control" is an essential take out skill :laughing

Before COVID, the local market had burritos for $7.99

During COVID, the price rose to $10.99

Now, the burritos are $14.99

They are not ginormous but OK size to make a meal of.

This sucks! I haven't had a good burrito in two years. I bought one at $10.99, but I cannot afford the new price.

$9.00 w/ tax for a regular carne asada burrito :cool

https://www.today.com/food/restaurants/taco-bell-futuristic-drive-thru-rcna32393

the Mexican-inspired fast-food chain announced that its newest high-tech, two-story location, "Taco Bell Defy," will open doors this week. Customers visiting the Brooklyn Park, Minnesota location can expect to roll up to the drive-thru spot and find themselves face-to-face with video technology and a little food elevator rather than an employee outfitted with a headset.

The new location’s most prominent feature includes four drive-thru lanes where customers can have pickup orders dropped to their cars via a cylindrical "proprietary vertical lift." Picture the vacuum tube at bank drive-thrus, but for your Mexican Pizza.

I think the next step is having robots make the food...just like the movies yo

dude, have you seen the videos of taco bell workers showing how all of their food is made? :wtf dump dry meat pellets into container, add hot water, stir, done :green
I mean I knew it was questionable food but damn

I'm well aware of Taco Bell's practices. I still love that shit :laughing
