Ev trucks - 2022+

Yeah, but... It can "crab walk" and the roof panels come off and it can
go on rocks-n-stuff too!

So again, are we spending tens of thousands to save hundreds, fam?

Maybe, but a lot of people generally swap to a new vehicle every few years anyway, so they would have spent those tens of thousands regardless.

Sure, those who lease, right?

But those who don't....

They investigated over 5 million vehicles sold by their original owners to determine which models are kept the longest. Counting all makes and models measured in this survey, the average length of new-vehicle ownership in the U.S. is 8.4 years.

And of course the USofA has the "electrical" capability in place to support the projected growth of EV's. Won't be long before the average cost of 1-kWh (California's average last year was 19.90¢ / kWh) climbs to .50¢ /kWh or more. :nchantr

So what?

Whether people swap every 3 years, or 5 years, or 10 years, or 20 years, doesn't really matter. If they are shopping for a new car anyway, what's the difference in terms of their cost in spending 40k on an EV vs spending 40k on a gas powered SUV? I'm currently driving an 03 Toyota Corolla. I'll probably hold onto it until it dies. Even if I get another vehicle I would probably keep it around because it's really cheap to own and run. With that being said, if and when I get a new car, it'll be an EV. Because of the gas savings, because it's better for the environment, and because I could easily see, in 10 or 20 years, it being more expensive and more of a hassle to keep running an ICE vehicle.

You basically make the assumption that people who otherwise would not be buying a car at all are buying up the EVs and there isn't really any reason to believe that. You would have to show that car sales in general have increased by about the amount that yearly EV sales are up. I'm pretty sure that's not true.

Reducing fuel consumption and its resultant byproducts? Just wanting to have the latest thing? :dunno

Like, maybe it isn't just about money.

Feeling good about reducing fuel consumption? Perhaps.

Not waiting in line at the gas pump? Haha...now I have more time to buy a coffee at Starbucks!

A bit of retail therapy at play? Bought something shiny and new!

Keeping up with the Jones's perhaps? Fuck you Bob! I got a Polestar!

Are EV's really that more environmentally friendly to manufacture? There are still plenty of petroleum based products in EV's. Telsa's have GM like plastic interiors.

Is mining for minerals for batteries any better than drilling for oil/fracking? Honestly, I don't know. But the environmental affects is still terrible, right?

Yes, I know we are still in the infancy of EV's and it's going to take a long time to have a society that is nearly 100% EV.

I'm not trying to shit on EV's. I rather do like the idea of them. I know I'll own one one day. But, it will be for selfish reasons. :laughing

Ford surprises F-150 Lightning owners with accessory that can recharge stranded Teslas

https://www.theverge.com/2022/6/7/23158382/ford-f150-lightning-tesla-adapter-charger-power

Pretty darn nifty...and the answer to "how do I charge my xxx away from civilization". Ford has created a landmark product with the F150's bidirectional energy capabilities. The platform allows Ford to now partner with other electric products (motorcycles/ landscape tools, etc) and offer those as packages w/ the truck. I see endless possibilities here.

On the subject of EV's: do those espousing EV's own one? PEV/ hybrid/ ?

Those are valid points. Many people replace there car because of a want not a need. Consumerism. This goes for lot of gadgets.

Yet, people still need to replace there car eventually.

EV just drive better and more socially responsible.

It's nice not to have a gas bill or drive to the gas station. I still pay for gas occasionally because I have a PHEV.

Russia is economically an oil company disguised as a country. Russia is still selling oil to India and Russian and anything that can be done to lower demand on oil will starve Russia of war money. Remember the old WWII conserve fuel propaganda? Perhaps, today, Americans are more individualistic and don't appeal to the greater good.

It is nifty.

The bidirectional capabilities are not unique though. Hyundai talked about bidirectional charging a year ago on their Ioniq 5, and will include 'Vehicle to everything' charging on all of their EVs going forward.

Of course,, Hyundai doesn't make an EV pickup truck (yet), and especially the base model F150 lightning is very good for it's MSRP cost.

Are they? Does anybody have one yet?

It'll be interesting to see how the F150's tech changes what can be accomplished in the field.
