Ford Ranger 4x4 vs Honda Ridgeline 4x4

^ Those are all over Japan.

I figured if the Hilux is good enough for your average jihadist, its good enough for the average American. :laughing

mmhmm, I've seen them, they are great little trucks. I really wish we could get some Kei vehicles in general sold in the US. Maybe lose the horsepower restriction so they can do a little better on highways, but those little cars are amazing for how much utility they can get out of a truly tiny platform.

Plus the sports car versions are gloriously goofy.

Who wouldn't want one of these with the engine from a Fireblade in it?

After owning it for 14 years I sold my Tacoma for almost half what I paid new for it.

When? Again, the market was what it was for Tacomas for years because no one else was even remotely trying like Toyota was.

Dakotas where there. Owned 2. Bought new each time. Compared to my 5.2L and 4.7L Dakotas, the Tacoma is just fine.
You guys missed the ECT button on the Tacoma. It turns the electronic "find the best mileage gear shift points" transmission control off.

Well yeah, Mopar's engines are shit. Kelly's Heep has that gutless 5.7 in it that's fast for about 5 seconds off the line and then does the same thing Tacomas do...make noise and go nowhere in any sort of a hurry. :dunno

Also, a fancy transmission feature can't make up for a lack of power. Either the engine has it or it doesn't have it. I know exactly what the ECT button is since my father insists on buying overpriced Toyota (AKA: Lexus) SUVs. They all have that ECT button in them and there's no discernible difference in power to me. In fact, I'd be willing to wager it's just like all the other "sport" modes in most vehicles which does nothing more than make the throttle response more snappy and change the shift points on an automatic transmission. At the end of the day, the engine output is still the same.

This.

The Mercedes truck is kinda cool, too....

Wasn't Nissan supposed to basically sell something like that here but the deal fell through?

Guess I don't need acceleration the way others do. I'm more then happy with the Tacoma and the gutless Dakota. They all get me up to highway speed as fast as I need them to do.

The crew cab trend on every truck of any size is annoying. How many truck owners have to carry a crew around with them?

Just make it a bench seat up front for 3, and maybe 2 jumpseats in an extra cab format. Leave the rest for the bed!

The only reason I'd want a bench seat is so I can put my arm around my wife's shoulder while we're cruising around. No fucking way do 3 grown adults want to stuff themselves into the front of a pickup truck anymore :laughing

People want legroom and creature comforts and they're willing to offset that with slightly less cargo area. Deal with it.

Yup.

Basically all truck models except unibody ones even offer single or extra cab versions. People just don't buy them as often except maybe as work trucks.

Marketing research brah. More and more people are using these vehicles as family vehicles. Husband, wife, 2 kids and a HUGE Costco run every weekend!

No Costco runs but everything else, yep

We primarily drive my truck on ALL vacations. Just more room to put shit.

I always found the "suicide" mini doors of "club cabs" annoying.

Dunno if I'd get a 4 door truck, I like my club cabs, but those doors...

Remember the old trick; if there are 3 dudes on a bench seat in the cab of a pick up truck, the one on the right would crouch down so the other 2 looked... ummm... on a date.

I'm probably never going to carry more than 2 people, and will likely keep the back seat folded down perpetually. I just like having the extra interior storage space for stuff, over what an access cab would offer. And having it be out of the weather and locked up.

D’oh if only I’d known of that trick I could have had some fun with it, myself and my cousins often drove around in a bench seat equipped truck like that when hauling crap to the dump.
