KTM 390's

These need to hit the streets ASAP so aftermarket manufacturers can start making parts for them. Hopefully by 2016 AFM season, they'll be easy enough to come by.

UK / India / AU already has them. A lot of the multi-national parts companies are already making stuff for the bike.

KTM also has a really good first part catalog. E.g. they will sell you race bodywork.

I didn't see any race 'glass in their PowerParts catalogue. I'm guessing Sharkskinz, Catalyst, or Optimal Racing would be cheaper than getting it from the OEM too. The only really useful parts I see in their catalogue so far are the Akra slip on, brake rotors, and rear sprockets. No bodywork, rear sets, levers, FI programmer, or suspension bits.

It'll all come with time. I can't afford a bucket to piss in right now anyway (which is why I sold my race bike), so it's a moot point for me. I'm just excited to start seeing these things on the grids.

I don't think it's fiberglass; they offer a race windshield/upper without headlight cutouts, race lower with oil containment, and single piece tail with foam seat.

Looks like this year's 390s won't have slipper clutch. I'm really on the fence now.

RC390 forum. A new owner from Texas posted here.

By the way, there is no slipper clutch. I dropped a few gears coming a little hot and the rear end started jumping around. Need to learn to rev match.

Another member from Chicago posted here after a 30 min test ride.

NO SLIPPER clutch and I asked about it he ( the dealer ) said there was no bulletin from KTM about it coming with one.

I think the most shocking thing from that forum is this:

:wtf
Did that guy just get charged over $1400 in dealer prep & licensing fees?

Time to invest in some Vaseline...

Sales tax is $500, reg is ~$200?. Still seems a bit excessive. Something seems a bit weird, since KTM still hasn't listed the bike on their website, and I have yet to see any other announcements.

Learn to rev match? Have the kids really gotten this lazy? :wtf

Its not a matter of lazy. I actually like the fact that my SV is no slipper.

Problem is financials. If I buy this bike without slipper .. then next year the new RC comes out with slipper .. suddenly I own an odd duck first year model that's less desirable both by real racers ( most of whom want every advantage like the slipper clutch ) an by street riders ( most of whom likes to bench race about the gadget on their bike ).

That's a roughly $800-$1000 part missing on a $5.5k bike. Even compared new to new, that's almost 15-18% of the 'value' lost there compared to 2016's model ( which should have slippers ). I guess this is either not an issue if you plan on keeping the bike forever or chalk it up as added cost to be among the first guys on the block with one.

So for those interested in such things: KTM has made its first shipment of the 390's last week and are heading to dealerships. Priority seems to be going to anybody who's signed up to the RC Cup. The guys in austin have received theirs ahead of the Moto GP weekend so they can have their bikes on display at COTA.

Buddy put together some quick vinyl work in preparation for COTA. Very cool.

I really seriously am missing the hype. For $6k + I think I could find a much better track bike :p

It's dead sexy don't get me wrong - but it's just an entry level track bike - amIwrong?

Anyone willing to pay that much for this bike is a sucker IMO :x

What else can you buy brand new for $6k that is much better?

It's the best small displacement platform as far as I can tell. Paying $700 - $1,000 per race weekend for tires on a 600cc+ gets old really quick. This bike won't cost nearly as much to run.

Awesome. I'm sure the 390 cup bikes aren't getting the slipper. Any word on the production 390s?
