KTM 390's

I can make the back wheel hop if on my 1290 if I don't commit to backing it in. I bet that guy has unrealistic expectations for how much a slipper will really prevent hop. KTM tends to set their slippers up pretty aggressively, probably to save on clutch life.

Just came home from Moto Cafe in Sunnyvale. My wife really likes the duke 390. Greg said it is a demo model but they are not allowed to let people ride it yet until the 390 passes CARB. I tried to buy it but he said there is a long list of people with deposits down

Thanks for the update. I'll stop by this weekend to have a sit also. Any sign of an RC there ?

I work up the road from The Motor Cafe, and took the opportunity to visit. Right now, they just have the Duke 390. I was told that they had a RC Cup Bike come through, but it was only there for a few hours.

First impressions are good. The bike feels great; very light but well built.

The controls definitely feel like bargin bin parts, and the brakes look like budget bits, but the same was true of my GS and it wasn't an issue. The forks and shocks appear to be high end parts, other than the lack of adjusters and lack of external reservoir on the rear shock.

Those numbers are at the tire? The link won't work for me, do they have a dyno chart to post?

They claim that's at the wheel.

I'm not surprised that it makes a bit more than the claimed power. According to what I've read, the claimed power/weight ratio is exactly what's allowed by european learners licensing requirements.

^^^^ Very nice, it would be a fun bike for me and a great bike for my wife!

Immediately makes me wonder if that's something that is easily "uncorked" with engine management software. (TuneECU/TuneBoy/PowerCommander)

With the RC390 weighing in at only 2-3 kg less than the 690 Duke, this bike could be a lot more fun once the power/weight ratio is increased even further.

I went to a KTM dealer in Sacramento to check it out but he said all of them got held up in customs and the 1 that they did get was sold before it hit the showroom..

What?

It hasn't been CARB certified yet, and it's May 2015?
Krystonacrutch!

Nowt that is downright ridiculous.

There's one sitting the the dealership here in Vegas. No deposit on it and available for pickup

Went through the Motorcycle Consumer News article on the 390 Duke expecting it to be a good step quicker than the DRZ but that does not seem to be the case comparing their DRZ numbers from a few years back to their numbers for the Duke.

The magazine tested the KTM 390 Duke and got a 5.5 0-60 time and a 14 second 1/4 mile time at 92 and a top speed of 104.

When they tested the DRZ they got a 5.5 0-60 time and a 13.7 1/4 mile time at 88 and a top speed of 94, (likely due to the 5 speed tranny).

My Stage 1 kit on the dyno saw a 10% increase in hp and a 15% increase in torque for my DRZ which "seat of the pants" improved acceleration but not top speed.

So if you believe the numbers from Motorcycle consumer news all I'd get from switching to a 390 would be more top speed which, really, makes no difference to me.

The more expensive DRZ also has better suspension than the $1,000 cheaper 390...though the 390 does come with standard ABS, (which MCN didn't particularly like), but at least the ABS has an on/off switch.

Guess I'll keep the DRZ.
