Well there goes my theory that you were wrenching for the X Games SuperMoto race. Selling your life story to Hollywood?

That bike was spewing flames out every lap on deceleration for turn 6. It was the only bike doing so and yes, it came from only one pipe every time.

dito in turn 2 every lap on the brakes, only one pipe had fire right in front of the back tire,.... and it was only one of the two "black" Ducati's!

Oh, how I wish! Actually, I don't know enough about those ultra-trick, 50K, Super-moto's they'll be racing during the X Games, and the last thing you want is someone dropping the ball during one of the tire changes during the race. . . .

I'll post up some of what I was doing in L.A. in the next few days - because today I'm handling DMV (my favorite!), credit cards, more online banking stuff, and getting ready for the MotoLiam/Motostrano event tomorrow at their Redwood City store. More Info Here.

See you guys there! And rumor is there will be MotoLiam discounts on everything in the store for you Barfers. . . . .

I'll be in L.A this weekend :cry

Im still patiently waiting for the info on what was interesting about the Duc... (well, almost patiently :p )

The intense heat at Laguna affected a lot of things. It was difficult for teams to be as focused and cohesive as normal, and it was throwing the bikes and tires fits. Bridgestone, Michelin, Dunlop - everyone was worried about not having the right tires because the supplies were decidedly limited (everything shipped straight from Sachsenring - no new stuff). With the track temperatures so high, and also the rapidly deteoriorating track surface, set-up was critical, and so was overall conditioning. Several bikes suffered engine failures, and I know people were worried about using too much fuel to make useable power throughout the course of the race. If you look carefully at the original photo I referred too, you'll see that it has been set up to allow maximum airflow to the radiators, helping to keep the engine as cool as possible and lengthen it's life in race conditions.

We work on our bikes as mechanics, and we work closely with the engineers and factory to make sure the bike is running at it's optimum for the conditions, and this is why our bike was running in the configuration it was. Different pipe diameters, flames, everything is already known at this point in the development cycle. We work in fractions of a degree here, and fractions of a degree there. . . . and it all adds up. When you're dealing with the most powerful and aggressive engine on the grid, it gets a little tricky. Can't wait for next year, though. Should be very, very interesting.

See you guys at Motostrano - I'm off!

P.S., and if all you guys missed this after thinking about it for a week, imagine Rossi's crew in China who only had a few seconds to get things done while he was directing them to swap rears. Time is crucial, seconds are eons, and everything happens immediately. Right or wrong, actions are necessary, so it's important everyone trusts everyone else.

So what was the interesting thing about this pic? I'm not as well versed in Moto Gp as the rest of you are.

Jim - I'll be there. For anyone in the East Bay, or anyone looking for something neat to do early this evening, I recommend American Sportbike Night which is a monthly gathering of bike nuts. Good people, lots of strange and wacky cycles.

Stan - Way to Go!!!

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately - I'm trying to wrap up a bunch of things before I ship back overseas and also arrange for extra baggage (picked up something sweet in L.A. last week :thumbup). I'm thinking I might be down for a late night at Zeitgeist in the city on Thursday. . . . . who's in?

And so it is that during my last few days in the US, my mom comes to visit. Time to rock and roll with the mother of all, well, the mother of me!

After mom showed up yesterday (at 7AM!!) we spent the morning having traditional Chinese breakfast in Chinatown. After lunch I met up with my friend Brad and we went for what is sure to go down in my history as one of the best rides ever. On the edge of Ultimate.
