NFL 2020

Grapp.

Y'all talk too much. :laughing

Hey, it keeps the radio guys goin day and night. Don't just blame us!:laughing:laughing

The risky but probable path is to find a young guy to be backup, flushing Mullins and CJ. The dreamy path is getting Rogers to retire here, a la Peyton, cuz its home.

If they go after somebody famouser it costs a valued other position player. I think Shanahan's system might be based on the premise of the game manager QB not glamorous one. He sure got Matty Ryan far. I sometimes wonder if that's an actual weakness of Shanahan. And I'm not sure who chose Mullins and CJ, but I think they should lose their vote next time.

I haven't changed my opinion on him. Dude is the GOAT, pure and simple.

Indeed.

Same hate as for Hamilton in F1 except this time Brady isn't on what was supposed to be the dominant team with the NFL's best homeless lookalike Coach. :laughing

Brady played a terrible game with three interceptions and a couple of other floaters.

Hopefully he doesn't do that against KC or it will be a very boring game.

Yes, he did some overthrowing. Interceptions in a play-off game? Who ever heard of such a thing when D is playing its guts out....Even Aaron Rodgers got picked yesterday. He has the lowest picks of any QB in modern times, I think. They mentioned some ridiculous statistic on the radio last week about how few he has thrown in his career.

But as for Brady, he's in the Super Bowl. He has the vet thing of seeing coverage pretty goddam well and adjusting and he stays cool despite not having the best receiver corps. At this point, it's philosopher not hot-dog. I have loved seeing the play this year of Rogers, Brady, Wilson, Brees as four old guys for whom time during play has slowed down and they see shit. We have had great QB play this year for that alone (and of course including the not old at all Mahomes), among other things, and accompanied by promising newer guys. And their part is nearing the end. I kept expecting Wilson or Brady to just get absolutely creamed but it was Brees that got it the worst I think. He is tough to come back after our Niner guy did a Raku on his ribs.

I think yer a hater, I say, good-naturedly. But I understand wishing somebody else got a shot.

Up until yesterday indeed I was but maybe because I lived in Florida for 9 years (Miami) I found myself actually rooting for Brady yesterday for the first time ever.

The defense bailed him out as did the Packers themselves.

Who wins after three interceptions?

A team with a defense that gives up only 6 points after those interceptions.

Rooting for the Bucs over KC.

Oh sorry, I put in your quote but was needling coco for being the hater.

I kinda figured that was for me.
I am willing to bet that none of the teammates Brady won his first SB with have been in the league in a decade. Some of that is his fitness. Granted. Most of that is the change in rules.
It just doesn't sit well with me. All other positions except maybe receiver have to play actual football now. QB? Nah, they're untouchable. Perfect example is the one you cited: Brees getting wrecked by Street. Perfect hit and tackle. Nothing untoward. No suplex. Yet a flag thrown for roughing. Why? Here's the video:

All I can think is that Brees squealed when he hit the turf. He looks totally mussed when he gets up, and I do feel kinda bad for the injuries. But that is football. Why is the QB exempt from actually playing the game?

I was for years though.

But what he had done at Tampa Bay, win or lose, is hard to ignore.

From an article earlier in the season.

"He's never treated me like I was 'sub-Tom Brady.'

Nobody on this team gets treated like you're beneath Tom Brady," Miller said.

"He treated me with respect from the very first day I met him.

He just treats us like we're equals.

To me, that makes me want to play incredibly hard."

I just do not understand why everyone is so committed to Rogers leaving GB either. The way football is SUPPOSED TO WORK is you draft a QB in the top 2 rounds and then let him sit and learn the pro game for 1-3 years before he starts. Look at Mahomes.

If J-Love is the new guy in GB, then Rogers, who sat on a bench for three years behind Favre, is in the same position to teach dude for the remainder of his very expensive contract.

If dude is coming back to Cali to finish up, I expect he will play for the Rams, since Grapp isn't going anywhere. A-Rog already owns homes in San Diego and L.A. and lives in SoCal in the off season.

Speaking of sneaky, Mahomes did something really sneaky yesterday. He had run the ball and was going down, but when he saw the opposing defenseman ease up to not hit him, he grabbed an extra yard. It was a really shitty thing to do.

The only reasons I could see him leaving were if he just didn't like LaFleur and the mixture of players OR, and this is big, he didn't want to relive the experience of the drahma of waiting under Favre. When you consider how great he has turned out to be, three years was a long time to understudy. Careers come and go in three years in the Not For Long joint. Not everyone can be that "big" that they entertain their successor; maybe he doesn't want to do that. One theory floated on sports radio is that having junior nearby MAKES the vet play better just out of ego, competitiveness, etc etc. so it becomes a strategy to get more out of the vet. That the Pack are spending their fortune on a QB instead of a receiver, rb, whatever, is sort of inscrutable. Just depends on how one views that strategy.

I didn't catch that play.

Yeah, the rules about the QB are just so one sided now. I don't want them to be bludgeoned into submission but it's not okay for them to run and expect not to be hit. If you run as a QB you should not be allowed to "give yourself up." Lots of other rules for protecting the QB and they have all been made to protect them from being clobbered as they statue-up and throw. Time to remove protection from them when they run. Don't want to be hit like a running back? Don't run. Throw the incompletion.

The other bit that needs to change is for receivers. No more clobbering them? Okay, hand checking and fighting all the way down the field from now on. Holding is still a penalty but no more illegal contact and interference becomes much more infrequent. And let them push off. Get rid of OPI and DPI for the most part.

It allows owners with good QB and receivers the protections to keep them in the game longer but removes some of the rules that are keeping them from actually playing the same game with the rest of guys on the field.

It is borderline criminal how little help GB has given Rodgers via the draft.

Yeah, it happens a lot with big name QB. I used to say the same thing about Eli, does anyone of you have any idea who any of the WR were in those 2 Superbowl wins he got?

Poor A-Rog hasn't had shit since Donald Driver retired although Jordy Nelson was pretty good for a few years. I think really it was more that Rogers elevated him though. At least they have a decent line for him, which is the most important part of football, but GB hasn't taken an Offense Player in the 1st round in like 10 years. Just about every 1st and 2nd round pick is Defense, so I just can't figure out why their Defense hasn't been better, you know?

Eldritch, Are you saying that Devonte Adams isn’t an elite receiver? I believe he’s the No. 1 receiver in the NFL.

My bad, you know honestly, I forgot about him. He is good. I like Tyreek Hill or Deandre Hopkins better, but he is a top flight guy for sure.

Since you called it out, I went and looked it up. Adams was taken in the 2nd round in 2014. He was the last guy they took on Offense in the 1st 2 rounds up until this year except for a failed Tackle in 2016 that now plays for the Bears. I still stand with MikeV on this one though.

yeah Adams is probably a top 3 guy, but good god imagine if they'd taken Marquise Brown this year too or Calvin Ridley last year.

Yea I completely agree with you and MikeV, Rodgers hasn’t been given much to work with in the last 10 years. One great receiver can only go so far when everything else is duct tape and rubber bands. With that said I think that says a lot about how good Rodgers really is. Not many quarterbacks could ever do what he has done with so little to work with.

I’m rooting for KC in this SB. Well...I’m rooting for Mahomes.
