NFL 2021

Sorry, there are two running backs that sit atop the pile of bones created by RB who think they can truck everything in front of them: Earl Campbell and Skittles Lynch. Sure there are some other RB who’ve made the climb up the bone pile interesting: Riggo, King Henry, Franco, The Zonk.

Hell, Jacobs didn’t even make it up half way in my book.
Change my mind. :x

I always thought that getting hit by Earl Campbell, and the terrible astroturf, is what made the Astrodome be called the House of Pain. He just pounded and pounded. I dunno how he survived for so long. I felt like our Frank Gore was sort of like Campbell in the inevitability of it all.

Nobody like him right now, that's for sure. That guy is inspiring to watch. They showed him doing his workout regimens during the broadcast...awesome.

He's definitely in my club of favorite league players.

And speaking of Bills and runners, I have been a bit disturbed seeing the HCs run their QBs too much. Yes, Allen is big but it makes me nervous seeing such talent pounding against D-lines. That's what Shanny did with Trey Lance last week with the famous results (where he got snuffed at goal line). With Jimmy G hurt (be he ever so humble), RISKY!

They have specialists for these things, not QBs.

Pretty sure Shanny did not draw up SIXTEEN designed runs for Lance.

That just shows he's not ready yet. His instinct is to run first still.

Jimmy is back to practice and Trey isn't. My best guess is Jimmy remains the starter for as long as he's healthy. Lance is the future but he needs to continue to develop and learn.

Well, all season thus far we kept hearing about a simplified game plan to "help" Lance. This was made extra "funny" because Jimmy liked that, too, supposedly.

I am ready for the more sophisticated ones rather than see that kid pounded to death...but right, Jimmy might end up doing the starts until he gets hurt again.
Also, I think they are lacking personnel due to injury to do the more sophisticated plays.

yeah the problem with the complicated shit is that it takes time for those plays to develop.

When Mack, McGlinchey, and Brunskill get blown the fuck up in Pass Pro every other play, the complicated shit can't happen.

Isn't there a thread for BS-ing about fantasy football ELSEWHERE?

:laughing

My bad, I'm not trying to go on and on about fantasy. I was just happy Monday nights game resulting in a lot of Kick Work from Buffalo rather than the End Zone. Their play call choices worked for me.

:teeth

solid call. Jacobs isn't even on the radar with those. I'd put Bettis in front of him.

Not arguing but may throw a couple more names in the pot:

Jim Brown.

Bo Jackson.

Christian Okoye?

Bettis was a midget too, but built like a fucking Abrahms. He was fun to watch when he was younger and could get up to speed but it seemed like most the last 6-7 years he enjoyed cheeseburgers a bit too much. He didn't get fast enough to really wreck people on the open field.

LOL, I don't have to change anything, you can like what you like. Earl Campbell played so long ago, I don't even think they had TV back then.

I never watched games via smoke signal.

Marshawn Lynch was strong and tenacious, but he is a fucking midget. I don't even think he is 6', most RB aren't. That only makes for so much violence in a performance.

Brandon Jacobs was my favorite, aside from the fact that he is the Giants all time rushing TD leader, because he is the biggest RB ever to play the position for an extended period. He was 6'4" 265 lbs.

He is the only RB I have heard DB's straight say in interview that if he had a full head of steam, they just would not try to tackle him by themselves for fear of injury and try to check him to a sideline.

Being that big honestly gives you a lot of disadvantages as a RB, but it makes for some fun to watch football.

Derrick Henry is a lot smaller at 6' 3" and 240lbs, but still he is big enough that he fucking crushes corners and blows up safeties. Linebackers trying to one on one with him are taking a chance. Really the fat fuck 300lb Tackles are the only dudes he can't nuke if given a clear shot. Reminds me of BJ in his golden days and it makes me smile.

Geez Skippy, of course he was on teevee. In those days AFC games were always on NBC, which had inferior sound and a kind of chalky picture, compared to CBS which carried NFC games. I never could figure out why. You’d love the way he pasted guys. When you watch below, you'll see him hit a guy so hard it knocks his helmet off. He also had incredible balance and would recover from what seemed like inevitable tackles. The guy was a tank before Frank. And the Oilers always kind of were in the shadow of the Cowboys so to me, he never got his due...

:laughing Ah, yes, I remember those Epic Shoulder pads. They were cool back in the day before the US Army took them all to land helicopters on instead.

I just didn't see many hits in that video though. He seemed a powerful and agile runner, but mostly he was dodging and getting away there. Like, the one where dudes helmet got knocked off, he kind of got under him and got him in the chin, and there was a great hit where he speared the guy right in the chest at 2:50 but it was again going down low, which anyone can do.

A good RB has a low center of gravity and the technique to get lower than the other guy. That is not what I am talking about.

I am talking about raw brute force. Stuff like this:

Derrick Henry also has that same kind of "NFL Blitz '99" brute force thing where you figure he would just grab these guys by the neck and one arm throw them out of the way if the rules allowed it. No technique required.

Def, JB, but the others flamed out too soon. And even JB hung em up in his prime.

oh we doing highlights?

Bo was 6'1 230. could truck a defender or outrun them.

yeah he flamed out too early. I watched the game he ended his football career on. Playoff game, 4th quarter. someone tried to tackle him and only got a foot to hold on to. Bo yanked his own foot out of the defender's grasp so violently that he pulled his own hip out of the socket. never was the same.

I was going to create smoke signal gif and tell you you’re a dumb head nong nong…but figured I’d just go with this instead…

NSFW - Smoke Signals

:laughing

It is important to remind people that anything that happened before the mid-80's or so is so ancient now that any memory of it cannot not be trusted due to the senility issues of the remembering parties. :laughing

I don't know man, I feel like he could have kept it going, his heart just wasn't in it. I was always a bit sad he decided to just play baseball, but between the money and the injuries, how could you blame him?

Jacobs was a situational back... at best.

Less than 5100 career yards in a 9 year career, only 2 seasons over 1000 yards, barely, 7 yards with the 9ers.... :laughing

You been tested for old timers disease lately?

Not sure where you are going with this? All I said was he was one of my favorite ever to watch play the game due to the oversized physicality of his play style, which Derrick Henry reminds me of.

If you are trying to argue with me what type of players I like to watch play the game, you will lose every single argument. :laughing

:dunno

:laughing I had a feeling Gruden's larger than life personality may not have exactly been an asset.

anyways...I can see potential humor in WFTs newest move. from ESPN:

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Football Team released veteran kicker Dustin Hopkins, opting for a player who last kicked in a game five years ago.

The team signed Chris Blewitt...

what could possibly go wrong! lol

Just pointing out that Jacobs was merely an adequate back, especially when compared to some of the greats you were rather dismissive of since they may have played before you were a zygote.... :dunno

I was always a Walter Peyton fan, most of his yards were made on Bears teams that just weren't that good. Met him once, too, after he retired.

I always chuckle when the announcers identify Succop when he comes in.... :laughing
