did the hangar 24 tap takeover last night. the Betty IPA is quite good...rounds off well without much bite, especially for an IPA. The double IPA was very good! no noticeable alcohol sweetness and again, instead of the bite you get from the Pliny, the bitterness rounds off quickly.

I never thought I'd go past IPAs to liking dIPAs. but now with Green Flash's west coast (d) IPA, Pliny, Hoptologist, and hangar 24s dIPA, I guess I have to consider myself a fan.
 
I was never a fan of IPAs other than Schubros. But now I love DIPAs and TIPAs. Why bother with a regular IPA.

Probably to late but you should hit up Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery and get food at the French Laundry next door. I heard the food their is great.

My aunt lives a block away from Sante Adairius but they dont' open until 3. Think I'm going to try discretion brewery, it's close. Have you been? is SCMB better? Is the food better?
 
At discretion brewery. Good food but small portions. Really good stout.

Harry's Hofbrau on Saratoga is having an IPA day on Sunday

They will have Pliny the Younger on Tap. They expect you will have to line up at 8am for drink tickets which will run out by 9am. They expect the keg will be done prior to noon.

I'll be there for the other 22 different IPAs they will have.

I just drove by the Bistro and its slammed. I have one more appointment then I'll flip a coin whether or not its worth it to go back for $8.50 a pour.

Nope, never been. What is SCMB? How was the food even though it was small portions.

Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery? The one you recommended :laughing

Food was really good, I had pork sliders, really tasty at Discretion.

Menu at Seabright looked better, but I wasn't that hungry I wanted two lunches.
 
OK, spent the afternoon at Russian River yesterday, (they allow max 3 hours during PTY time), and have to say that while I liked the citrus notes of PTY from 3 years ago those are now gone.

I preferred Pliny the Elder, available ever day, to Pliny the Younger.

There are numerous beers out there from numerous breweries that have beers as good a Pliny the Younger.

Certainly not a beer worth a ridiculous wait in line.

Good news is you can cut into the line, walk inside, and leave with a case or growler of Pliny the Elder in less than 10 minutes as they now have a separate room for those types of purchases. :thumbup

It wasn't that irksome as my wait in line was under 60 seconds! :teeth

I meant to try Blind Pig yesterday but didn't.

For those wondering, Blind Pig is RR's IPA, PT Elder is their Double and PT Younger is their triple.

I prefer Racer 5 to the 3 different years I have tried Pliny the Younger.

I like Pliny the Elder as much as I like Racer 5.

Blind Pig is closer in comparison to Racer 5. Both have rounder flavors amidst hop BUs. Elder is orthodox hop flavor, like chewing on a pinecone while you suck a grapefruit. It's like goin' to Hop Church. Not for everyone. Shuts down yer tastebuds, too....

Anyway, I think if you like 5, X or 15, you would like Blind Pig.
